Heaven
Last weekend my writing partner stole me away for some hooky. Which included, of course, a bookstore–Powell’s on Hawthorne. Bookstores mean safety and security, just like libraries do. They also mean heaven.

Looking Up
Odd Trundles complained that he wanted his walk, complained that I was not moving quickly enough to get to his walk, complained that he had to go down stairs to get to his walk, complained that it was raining during his walk, complained that his walk was too long, complained that he had to go …

On Wish Fulfillment, and “Art”
Someone made a snotty comment about art and entertainment being mutually exclusive (yes, this was on Twitter, how did you know?) and it irritated me enough to pop off a thread in response. It also got me thinking about wish fulfillment. Inevitably, whenever someone starts making the case for entertainment being art too, goddamn if …

Hapless Fruit
News! There’s news! Season 3 of Roadtrip Z—Pocalypse Road–is now up for preorder. (Yes, there will be a paperback version, too.) Also, I hived off my editing, cover copy, and formatting services to a separate site. I’m kind of waiting for that email address to start receiving the email equivalent of cold calls. There’s been …

Nutrition
Two of my favorite things: a book that I must read with a dictionary handy, and spicy noodles. Hating school is one thing, but learning is quite another.

Alarm, Buffet
I put my alarm clock across the room on my dresser, so I have to get out of bed to turn it off. Both the kids have used this strategy with much success, but it wasn’t necessary for my silly self until this past winter. Even the sunrise function, where the attached lamp starts glowing …

Enforced Rest
I could finally run again this morning! It was chilly, nasty, and damp; Miss B kept trying to kill me, but I persevered. Taking a week off while my body fought a book I shouldn’t have been writing and a furious cold caught at a train station might have been good for healing, but I …

Butterfly, Snow
I love butterfly bushes, especially the ones with deep-purple, almost black flowers. I had to move this one to a slope where it would get more sun, and I’m glad I did. I had a bad turn when the temperature plummeted, until I looked them up and realized they are, in fact, evergreens. When the …

Liberation Adorable
So after a lot of back-and-forthing, and desperate attempts to write a dead book even though it made me physically ill…I no longer have to write the dead book. I don’t even have to attempt it. Instead, I can work on something that doesn’t make me stress-vomit each morning. Needless to say, this is a …

Prepared
Snowing hard this morning. The Prince went off to school with his Yule gloves, the scarf I knitted him, his down jacket–I could barely see his eyes peering out between scarf and hood. “I’m PREPARED,” he announced, before clattering out the door. Odd Trundles moaned, groaned, and otherwise bitched until I dragged him (and B) …
