Reading With Your Kids Podcast
Eight of my fellow Spooky Middle Grade authors and I appeared on the latest Reading With Your Kids podcast, which dropped on December 25th. Together (but separately) we wrote a story for Jed’s niece. Check out the results! https://t.co/IvaGcrMUeo Oh what an amazing episode of the #RWYK #Podcast. Nine Spooky Middle Grade Authors create an …

Spooky Middle Grade
Recently, I joined a fun group called Spooky Middle Grade. It’s a group of 12+ authors (so far) who think spooky stories have a place all year round. Besides blogging, we offer free Skype visits (30 minute Q&A format) to teachers and librarians as well as a reading challenge (see below).

Upcoming Events–and Books and Stuff
I admit it. I’m not great at keeping my website and events up to date, particularly since I’m teaching multiple university classes. However, I do have some cool upcoming events in spring (and summer) that I can’t really announce yet! Stay tuned! (Hint: one involves a book festival, and the other a school system.) As …

As some of you may know, I teach professional writing for Indiana University East online. I’m happy to announce that I’ll also be teaching YA and speculative fiction for Southern New Hampshire University’s new online Creative Writing MFA. Write Around the Corner
Recently, I had the pleasure of talking to Rose Martin, the host of PBS’ Writer Around the Corner, about my latest book, Bone’s Gift. We’re sitting in the Alexander Black House’s (aka, Blacksburg Museum) exhibit about coal mining in the New River Valley. (Click the photo to go to the episode.)

The Smell of Author Copies
Author copies of my new middle-grade novel, Bone’s Gift, came yesterday! Aw, the smell of freshly printed books. It’s the smell of dreams, heartache, and hard work. It’s the smell of believing in something even when others don’t. You see, I started thinking about this story, this world many, many years ago. I wrote different …

Dramatic Discoveries
Author copies!!! I really enjoyed writing this one. It’s all about weird and wonderful discoveries–often by accident–from ‘hobbits’ in Indonesia to zombie-ant fungus to the cryovolcanoes of Enceladus. The publisher of Dramatic Discoveries (12 Story Library) creates awesome companion websites for all of their books. Each has links, news stories, photos, videos, and even Twitter […]
