FINANCIAL TIMES REVIEW LOST GIRL

“Nevill ornaments his tale of brutality and bloodshed with florid Gothic prose, like flock wallpaper gracing a torture dungeon. There’s acute psychological insight amid Lost Girl’s squalid inferno, and the author’s vision of our near future is horribly plausible.” James Lovegrove, Financial Times.

Never been reviewed by the FT before. A LOST GIRL review made Saturday’s issue.

EIGHT NOVELS THAT WILL TRULY HORRIFY YOU – AT HODDERSCAPE

Journalist Alan Kelly (of Rue Morgue amongst many other publications) has compiled a list of “Eight Novels That Will Truly Horrify You” at Hodderscape. Very flattered to see that one of mine is on there, as it was the one that was most definitely intended to horrify, amongst other things. And also MEAT by my friend, Joseph D’lacey, who I actually met shortly after this came out.

LANCASHIRE EVENING POST REVIEW LOST GIRL

“The king of darkness has donned a new mantle for a brilliant thriller that envisions a terrifying future . . . Nevill’s writing is eloquent, spare and breathtakingly detailed, persuading us through the medium of words and compelling visual description that this is a future not of fantasy or make-believe, but grounded in the reality of a planet under serious threat . . . The father’s plight – physically, emotionally and ethically – is what makes this haunting, disturbing story truly one of boundless horror and one that will give readers pause for thought long after the last page has turned.”

I’M INTERVIEWED AT COSMICOMICON BY T.E. GRAU

Recently, I spent some considerable time in the nameless dark of T.E Grau’s Cosmicomicon, and in that lightless void we whispered about horror for a very long time. A transcript of what passed between us can be found at the Cosmicomicon website.

We covered everything from why I write horror, to how I came to be published, the vault of grotesque horror I drew from for House of Small Shadows, the subject of literary fiction and horror, the current British and American horror fields (as I see them), how and when I write, some advice for writers, and before the darkness receded and became something else entirely, we even touched upon our shared interest in intense, heavy music . . .

It was a comprehensive exchange with Ted, and I’m very grateful to one of the most exciting new writers of the weird and horror, for hosting me over at his place.

THE GUARDIAN ON THE 2015 BRITISH FANTASY SOCIETY AWARDS

Really great to see such strong coverage of the awards in a major publication.

I even get a shoutout!

“Adam Nevill won the best horror novel award with No One Gets Out Alive, a creepy variation on the haunted house trope, with a young woman embarking on a nightmarish experience when she moves into a sinister shared house. ”

DIRGE MAG REVIEWS LOST GIRL

“Lost Girl is a pitch black novel of guilt, loss, and – possibly – redemption, set against the backdrop of what just might be the end of the world . . . Lost Girl still manages to feel like a Sam Peckinpah movie.” Dirge Mag

Thank you, Dirge, and Ken Preston.

LITERATURE WORKS REVIEW LOST GIRL

“Lost Girl is a novel that is tough and will hit hard, particularly for those, as the father observes, “born partially stricken by so many solvents of the heart.” We are all afraid of the end of the world, one way or another, the novel suggests to me, whichever world it is we love the most and seek to lose the least.

Lost Girl seems to be one of Nevill’s most deeply personal novels, and I think it is his best.”

POP MYTHOLOGY REVIEW LOST GIRL

“This is a journey you need to go on yourself. Put some time aside, get comfortable and pour yourself a stiff drink. You’re going to need it.”

My sincere thanks to Pop Mythology and Sapient for this review.

LOST GIRL INTERVIEW WITH LITERATURE WORKS

I really enjoyed drilling down in this interview with Literature Works, who have supported me for some time now with festivals, events and interviews.

So here lies the motivation and method behind LOST GIRL, with musings on runaway climate change, the collapse of civilisation, apocalyptic fiction, and some hints about what I am working on for 2017 … under the working title of YELLOW TEETH.

“The story has come from years of reading about the earth’s historica…l changes, and human history, as well as the current alteration of the climate and those potential consequences for civilisation. I didn’t want to set this book at a far distant time, or in a state of post-apocalypse or post-collapse, because it then becomes fantasy . . . There is no greater horror facing all of us than what we currently face. But just to ratchet things a little tighter, my parental horror had to come out in some form, so I imagined losing a child too, in a steadily collapsing world of diminished resources and compromised compassion …”

My thanks to Tracey and the team for letting me sound off again! And to anyone who reads these interviews. I do a lot of them and never really know who stays the course.
