BOOK CLUB, DEERFIELD, IL

Delphine Pontvieux was invited for a luncheon by the ladies of the Deerfield book club this past Thursday (September 30th) to discuss her novel "ETA-Estimated Time of Arrest."
The conversation covered many topics related to her book, and the separatist group ETA in particular, as it's been making headlines in the US and international press over the past month when the group announced a permanent cease-fire to the Spanish government (see Basque country news category on this blog to read more on the issue). Other subjects were discussed as well, such as Basque cuisine and wine, tourism in the Basque country and the Pyrenees, and of course, the book characters' personalities and their actions were discussed at length.

A note from the host of the Deerfield book club:
"thank you again for coming to our book club and entertaining us with your rich history of the Basque area and all the research you did for ETA.  An amazing first novel and I am sure there are more to come.  You are an amazing talent in so many areas. My friends were also enamored with you."
Are you part of a book club? Or do you feel like gathering together with your friends some day and do something different for a change of pace?
We encourage you to choose/propose "ETA-Estimated Time of Arrest" as your next pick.  And should you want to discuss the novel with the author herself, please contact us at missnyet@missnyet.com to make proper arrangements.

IJUSTFINISHED.COM AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT

DELPHINE PONTVIEUX  is the featured author in this month's edition of ijustfinished.com.

Read the interview here: http://www.ijustfinished.com/author/delphine_pontvieux/168/

A great feature on this website is you are encouraged to ask her your own questions. So go ahead, ask away!

Book review by the editor:

I had a certain expectation when I picked this book or any book of this genre. I thought that it would be one of those stories that wraps itself around the lead character blowing up things and people followed by maybe a love interest concluding with climatic big bang ending. I was glad that I was wrong.

ETA is not just another shoot'em up story line. This book gives you the opportunity to get involved with the main character but also get attached to the people around him. You don't get caught up in just "his" story. This book gets you deep into the lives of Faustine and her family, as well as giving you an understanding of Lartaun's life leading up to this moment. You can empathize with people's need to fight for their freedom and understand the conflict of trying, on an individual level as well as a mass level, to right the wrongs and what steps to take.

It keeps you captivated till the very end. Brilliant book!

THE LATEST ON ETA'S TRUCE

I was forwarded this link by a Basque friend of mine and I want to share it with you as I find that it

- gives a concise summary of the history of ETA from its inception in 1959 to today

- also provides relevant information about what is going on with ETA right now

- and the steps that need to be taken to facilitate and maintain peaceful negotiations between ETA and the Spanish state.

Support the Combatting Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act

The theft of copyrighted works like music, movies, books, software and games is a devastating problem. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce estimates such theft costs our nation's economy roughly $58 billion in total output every year; more than 370,000 domestic jobs; $16.3 billion in earnings; and $2.6 billion in tax revenue for state, local, and federal governments.

This rampant theft inhibits the ability of American businesses to invest and innovate — and stifles the capacity of American artists...

ETA calls for international mediation to help solve conflict

This is big news and an important step toward a peaceful resolution of the Basque conflict.

The armed Basque group ETA says it is willing to accept international mediation to help solve its long-running conflict with the Spanish government. Two weeks after it announced a cease-fire, the group said in a statement it is willing to "jointly explore" with overseas mediators the steps required for a democratic process, "including commitments to be taken by ETA."  Read the entire article here:

GODDESSES' BOOK CLUB (W.PALM BEACH, FL)

Delphine Pontvieux was invited by the Goddesses' book club in West Palm Beach, Florida, to discuss her novel on Wednesday, September 15th. "ETA-Estimated Time of Arrest" was their pick of the month, and given what is currently happening with ETA in the real world, it turned out to be quite the perfect timing for it.

It was a first for some of the goddesses to meet face-to-face with the author of the book they just read , and it made for a grand time, laughs, and also more serious in-depth...
