First Round of WDS 2014 Tickets Available

As mentioned in last week’s preview, we just released the first public round of ticket sales for WDS 2014.

A few notes on this process –>

1. First-come, first-served

We sell all tickets on a first-come, first-served basis. We can’t hold tickets for people, and after this sale is over, there won’t be any more tickets until sometime in 2014.

2. Every ticket needs a name

You can purchase up to 3 tickets in today’s sale. Each ticket must be issued in someone’s name.

3. No price increase!

We haven’t...

Audit Yourself to Improve Your Circumstances

Auditing Yourself

From time to time, it’s good to sit back and ask yourself a few questions. Here’s a starting point.

***

Are you happy? Are you doing something you enjoy?

A good way to look at is: how much time do you spend on the good things?

Who are the good people in your life? Do you spend enough time with them?

Do you need to realign any choices? Do something differently?

What’s changing? What would you like to stay the same?

Simple solution: keep what’s working, change what isn’t.

What are you doing for oth...

$100 Startup Launches In Japan

Weekend In Japan

I woke up yesterday and there was a typhoon outside my window. Whoa. I usually miss all the fun, but in this case I managed to stick around for part of the storm.

When the heavens weren’t being drained from the skies over Tokyo, I was thrilled to meet my local publisher and get a copy of the first printing from the local version of The $100 Startup.

That’s right, it’s now available in Japan!

Japanese readers, you can pick up the book here on Amazon.jp or at...

Giving the “A” Grade for the Person You’ll Become

Grading the A

I’m flying to Tokyo for the weekend, which I’d say is a long story but it’s actually a short one. I have a meeting with my local publisher and I need miles to requalify for American Airlines elite status—so I’m heading out for a super-quick Japan adventure.

On my connecting flight to LAX this afternoon I was re-reading an old book, The Art of Possibility.

In an early section, one of the authors wrote about teaching a course where he decided to award an “A” to every student right from the begin...

Business Opportunities

***

“Business opportunities are like buses. There’s always another one coming.” -Richard Branson

The outside world is an interstate of business opportunity buses passing you by, waiting to be boarded or ignored. Some buses, though, are going too fast. Those buses left the station a long time ago, and there’s no hope in trying to flag them down. Some are already as full as a West African bush taxi by the time they arrive—certainly cheap and interesting, but not usually an appealing choice of tra...

Reducing Decisions to Focus Better

From Robert Genn’s recent letter to artists:

Choreographer Twyla Tharp’s Creative Habit, describes her morning routine of rising early and going through the same morning rituals; same coffee, same bun. She puts on the same leotards, goes down the same elevator to the same street corner, puts her arm up in the air and gets into the first cab that comes along.

By the time she gets to the studio she has made no significant decisions. Stepping out onto the dance floor, her dancers await. It’s eight...

Labor / Labour / Laboring Day

Greetings from the home base in Portland, Oregon.

It’s a holiday today, or so I’ve been informed as I’ve gone about the usual business of running World Domination HQ.

Three quick things I’d like to pass on to you –>

1. The Time Paradox

I was fortunate to spend time with my pal Derek Sivers recently, and he recommended this book.

There is also a quiz you can take that claims to reveal your perspective on time. (Spoiler: I am very future-time oriented.)

2. Unbelievable Skateboarding Video (what,...

Your Goals Are Too Small

Goals Are Too Small

1.

I want you to think about something.

Maybe you’re like me: coasting along, doing okay, not lacking for anything material. You have a good life.

What else is there? Oh, that’s right: everything.

At a certain point you have you ask yourself, am I playing a small game or a big one? Am I truly striving? Am I really challenging myself?

Sure, life isn’t a game. But thinking of it like a game can help. Every day you’ve got to clear the obstacles, defeat the boss, and get to the next level. Along t...

Frequent Flyer Challenge: Summer 2013 Edition (with Reader Stories!)

Greetings, friends and readers!

It’s time for another round of the infamous Frequent Flyer Challenge, where I show readers how to earn hundreds of thousands of miles and points that can be exchanged for free travel everywhere.

Longtime readers will recall that I’ve earned millions of miles and points and put them to use flying all over the world (literally!). Last month I went to Malaysia and back with every flight paid for through miles and points.

But wait! Over the past few years, many AONC...
