Here is a little about Tainted Blood:

Tainted Blood by Katrina Michaels
Lilith's Day is a time of celebration and remembrance among vampires. As the holiday looms, a series of horrific deaths shocks the vampire community of Riversideand gathers the attention of Tom Duncan and his agents at the Preternatural Investigation Agency. The vampires’ blood products had never been considered vulnerable to tampering, so when the cause of death points to poisoning, everyone is shocked. Finding the culprit amidst unknown motives, numerous suspects, and rising tension between vampires and humans proves to be complicated.
At the same time, Agent Max Boyd finds herself having to face her past when a dangerous thief makes his presence known in Riverside. Reliving mistakes you tried to put behind you is never easy, as Max well knows, but when the thief puts her friend's life in danger, that is exactly what she must do.
Excerpt: Marco Delant broke away from chatting with some of his regulars and continued making the rounds of his club. It was a Friday night and the after work crowd was piling into Tombstone looking for colorful drinks and meaningless conversation. He passed by the bar and nodded to his newest bartender. Lucas returned the favor before turning his attention back to the ladies placing their orders. He smiled wide, allowing his fangs to show, and smirked as the ladies giggled predictably.It had come as no surprise to Marco that Tombstone’s patrons had become accustomed to having a vampire behind the bar. When Taraquit, it was mentioned frequently by his customers. Being able to take some not so subtle hints, he began searching for a new preternatural bartender, but found it harder than he thought it would be. His first two hires didn’t work out very well. The first told him that Tombstone’s music was too loud and distasteful and the second preferred to glare at anyone within two feet rather than serve them. However, Lucas was fitting in nicely so maybe his luck was changing. “Lilith’s Day is approaching and the moon is shining bright,” Jackson intoned after sidling silently up next to Marco. “It may seem quiet, but it won’t last.”“Then I guess I’ll appreciate the quiet for as long I can,” Marco smiled, humoring the eccentric vampire, sometimes also called a Bela, as they preferred to emulate the old-fashioned movie vampire stereotype.Jackson took a delicate sip of the blood from his wine glass as he considered Marco’s words. “Very true,” he agreed. “But I prefer chaos to quiet. Silence can easily be destroyed by a mere whisper, but nothing can end chaos.”“I’ll keep that in mind.”“Please do. Oh, my compliments. It is a lovely vintage tonight,” the vampire smiled, rolling the blood in the glass. He took another long swallow before turning back into the crowd as his black cape fluttered dramatically with each stride.Out of all the types of vampires Marco had met, Belas were certainly some of the oddest. At least they were taking inspiration from Bela Lugosi and not the actual Vlad the Impaler and so were mostly harmless. Marco dismissed Jackson’s words as mere theatrics and continued to survey the crowd. Satisfied that everyone was happy and that everything was operating smoothly, he disappeared into his office to catch up on paperwork. He hadn’t been sitting at his desk for more than a half an hour, though, before the screams started.The first one caught him by surprise and he knocked his glass of water to the floor. The shattering glass stole his attention briefly, but more voices joined in the high-pitched clamor emanating from the club. Marco ran out of his office and tried to pinpoint the source of the disturbance. People were scrambling away from a darkened corner of the club, but others were pointing behind the bar in horror. “Spencer! What’s going on?” Marco shouted to a nearby bouncer. “I think Lucas is sick,” the bouncer replied nervously. Everyone knew that vampires didn’t get sick.“What? Okay, check to see what’s happening over there and I’ll see to Lucas. And try to keep people calm,” Marco ordered and pointed to the other focus of the ruckus.Marco hurried over to the bar, pushing people out of the way gently until he could see his bartender. The vampire was on his knees vomiting blood onto the floor. “Lucas!” Marco cried and jumped over the bar. “What’s wrong?”“Don’t know,” he gasped in between heaves. “Hurts!”“What hurts?” Marco asked and grabbed his cell phone from his pocket and dialed 911. He quickly gave the operator Tombstone’s address and let her know that the emergency involved a vampire. “Lucas, what hurts?” he asked again after he disconnected.“Throat. Blood’s burning,” Lucas rasped and managed to look up at Marco who swallowed hard. The vampire’s lips were turning black and cracked. He had never seen anything like it. Lucas heaved and blackened blood erupted from his mouth onto the floor. As he coughed out more blood, Marco could see open oozing blisters in his mouth. The vampire started to scream as black lines began spreading out across his face and down his neck. It took Marco a second to realize that the lines were actually veins.“Marco!” Spencer yelled. “It’s one of the customers. A vampire. He’s throwing up blood. He looks real bad!”“Oh my God! Help! He’s dying!” a woman screamed from the other corner where Marco could see that another crowd had gathered.“What the hell is going on?” Marco breathed and looked around the club, seeking some sort of answer, and saw Jacksonsitting quietly in one of the chairs near the back. The vampire noticed his gaze and raised his glass in a mock salute to the sudden chaos.

A Druid's Perspective on Halloween: Donald Kirby on The Wild Hunt/ Seven Super Giveaways

The Wild Hunt
A different perspective
by
Donald Kirby
First, I am writing this on the fly, so forgive my brevity. The original article I wrote was ruined by a rather nasty virus on my computer. Second, I have no degree in history nor anthropology so I am not including foot-notes (it would take to darn long to find my books, the pages etc. I am a writer with a full time-plus job, and thus have other deadlines). But these matters do rise in my own faith, my being a modern Druid. As we joke amongst ourselves, “Druidry is a religion with homework”.
The Wild Hunt. Speak those words to a reader of fantasy, and images of a dark, vast horde ridding skeletal steeds across plains of lightning in the sky may well fill his or her mind. Ask them to describe it and they might tell you blood-thirsty beings swooping down with the screams of the damned to pursue the unwary people who travelled during Halloween –Samhain to the Celts and Wintersnight to the Germanic Tribes. It began on Halloween when the Veil between the living and the dead was at its thinnest, and ended on May first when the earth returned to wakefulness.
But the Wild Hunt was so much more than a Christian embodiment of evil, especially to the Germanic people.
To the ancient Celts the Wild Hunt was a vast army of Slaugh. These were a type of Fairy-Folk who were particularly malevolent. WY Evans-Wentz wrote in his book Fairy faith in Celtic countries (around 1910) accounts of children and animals being abducted during All Hallows Eve by the Wild Hunt and their spirits taken, while the bodies were found miles away from home. Many of these instances the bodies seemed to have been dropped from a great height.
The Scottish legend of Tam Lin is version of the Wild Hunt. Depending on the version you read or hear, the un-Seelie Court must either pay tribute to Hell with a mortal, or take a mortal to replenish their numbers. We may never know the original story, as Church persecution and suppression of Pagan knowledge was particularly brutal in Scotland.
Many of these stories changed, even though the core remained the same well into the 11th and 12th centuries AD. However, we must take these accounts with a grain of salt. In their zeal to destroy the old ways of the Pagans, monks demonized the old Gods. One leader of the Hunt was Frau Holle (or Hulda), who in Germanic lore kept the spirits of those children who died young and mothers who died in childbirth. She would feed them the first berries of summer, and come Wintersnight, she and her consort Wodan would ride across the skies; she would seek those special spirits still wandering -not to punish, but care for them. Wodan would gather those warriors who belonged with him, and those who tried to escape the Afterlife for proper judgment. It also gave his army of dead warriors something to do in during the dark-times of the year.
To look upon the Hunt would bring ill-luck as the deceased mothers and warriors would curse any of the living who saw them. To look upon a departing soul kept it earth-bound and starving for another year. Or the wails of those who could not leave would drive Holle and Wodan into such a rage that the Gods would turn on the transgressor. Sometimes a person or animal or wayward spirit would simply be caught up the wake of the Hunt, never to seen again.
But if left in peace, it was said that any field the Hunt passed over unseen would bear twice the bounty of the previous year. As time passed and those who held to the old Gods were tortured into compliance with with the edicts of the converted kings and the Church, Frau Holle became the embodiment of evil in woman’s clothes. She was transformed into one who stole or killed children, and Wodan became the Hunter of those damned and going to Hell.
In Scandinavia the Hunt was led by Odin (the Norse version of Wodan) or Freya, who was Queen of the Valkyries. Again, the Hunt was changed from a rite of passage for the seasons and the dead to a thing vilified during the onslaught of the new, imported faith.
One way to hide from the hunt was…do you know? Yup, costumes. Jack-o-Lanterns got their start in Scotland as a way to fool those spirits (human and otherwise) seeking to hide in a house from the Hunt. By carving faces in turnips and gourds, as well as straw dolls, it was to tell theose beings that the house was already full. The German custom of souling was begging for food before the start of winter (October 31rst) to leave for the dead or the Hunt. If someone did not give the poor child something to offer Holle or the Ancestors, mischievous pranks were played on the scrooge, so real spirits would not bother the innocent of the household. This became the foundation for our own Trick-or-Treat.
There is no doubt the ancient peoples rightly feared the Wild Hunt. No one wanted to be bound up in its fury and power. For it held death, life, and magic that humans could not comprehend.
There is so much more to tell, and I do have the time for it all. But as readers and writers, I pray this sparks a little curiosity in you. As we write and read, we create. I tell you these old tales in hopes that an author published or not, can find a twist to some old tales; so that a reader can make the written word take a deeper life in his or her imagination. “What if” are not dangerous words, but the two of the most wonderful.
As Wintersnight approaches, keep a candle lit for those who have gone, and listen for the sounds of hooves and battle cries across the sky.

A very big thanks to Donald for being my guest today!

Halloween
I love the idea of Halloween, I kind of romanticize about it, more than I should. When I was a kid in Montreal, and Edmonton, I think of what an awesome time I had trick or treating. All the kids, and parents out and about, ushering kids too and forth, smiling, trying not to kick over the odd overhanging pumpkin… Even the crisp scent of the evenings breeze brought with it, not only the feint smell of rotting vegetation, but also the tiniest of hints of hot cider, candy, and lashings of make –up. Now, as an adult in the UK with kids, I want to make them excited about it. I want them to go all goofy over what they can wear. I want them to have choices, walking up and down countless isles, with the smell of rubber rich and sweet, almost like the taste of white chocolate assaulting their sinuses.
But instead, all we get on the shelves are battered bin liners that are supposed to be vampire capes. Plastic masks that look like cheaper knock offs from the plastic masks made for back in the late eighties, odd glow in the dark finger tips… which I am not sure have ever fit anyone… and teeth, that if you put in your mouth, will make your gums bleed faster than a bacterial mouth infection… And as for the trick or treating… well… if you are lucky enough to have a trick or treater. You will get a parent wrapped up in a winter coat, holding their child, asking for sugar, in an eastern European accent… well… balls to that I say! I think it’s time, I let my laid back Canadian part of my brain take over.
So, this year, my family are going to make our own costumes, do each-others make up, and scare up some candy. (Fortunately being 6ft 5inches tall, and built like a bulldozer has its benefits, if I ask people for candy, they tend to produce the stuff in record time)
There are more signs saying “No trick or treaters here” than there are jack o lanterns… which must be fantastic for jolly old jack, as less of his brethren go to waste… but that is not even the case. Thousands of the pumpkins will just rot to pulp in bins… (note this is not one of those sad ads to save the snow leopards) So, this Halloween, I am going to dickens myself up, and dress like the ghost of Halloween past, present, and future!
So this coming Halloween, and all those in the future, make sure to have fun, parade your kids around as fairies, or dress them as hell spawn, just make sure they have a blast! Don’t have kids? Then dress your dog as a cat, or your cat as a mouse.
If in the off chance that you don’t like Halloween, and see it as a gimmick, then all I have to say is for shame. Halloween is the one night in the year, where it’s okay to get gussied up and terrorize the neighbors So why not have some fun?

Bound Excerpt:
"Ah, I have found you. You know for a big guy, you‘re hard to track down." The feminine voice startled me, immediately stopping me from transforming any further. My skin‘s chrysalis-like shell dissolved into sweat, and I found myself scrambling to put on my clothes, tripping on an exposed root and crashing into a heap on the floor."Nice scenery around here, isn‘t there?" The woman chimed. I was well and truly mortified.I gazed in wonder at the figure. She was tall and slender wearing black trousers that were snug to her figure, steel toe framed boots and a charcoal coloured top that suited her completely. She also didn't seem to have on tons of make-up like most the girls my age do, dolled up to look older, making them look like a kid who just found their mom‘s makeup and dove into it feet first.Her skin seemed almost pearly in its complexion. My jaw was nearly hanging open as I looked on at her. A glimpse of a tattoo on her partly exposed stomach drew my attention. From what I could see, it looked like a crescent-shape or something.She was standing on the verge, looking at me with a perplexed look on her face. Slowly tilting her head to one side, she rolled her eyes and hopped down from the edge. I was completely captivated with her gorgeous appearance.With great haste I hunted for my clothes, rummaging around on the floor. I couldn't take my eyes off of her. Her eyes were hardto make out; I could swear that they were almost violet in the evenings glow. They seemed to radiate, and I felt my body tingle as I tried to force my jeans on without looking. She shook her head and stared at me with some sort of bemused intensity. I was beginning to feel paranoid; a mental thought went through my head while I tried to figure out what she was looking at. I still hadn't spoken. I had forgotten how. I am pretty sure that she was growing uncomfortable with the silence... or possibly my reaction to her question. To her, I probably looked like a Luddite who just had his ball and string switched for a home entertainment system.

I still hadn't spoken. I had forgotten how. I am pretty sure that she was growing uncomfortable with the silence... or possibly my reaction to her question. To her, I probably looked like a Luddite who just had his ball and string switched for a home entertainment system.

MONSTERS THAT SCARE ME THE MOST
Thank you for having me on the blog today. I'm truly honored to be here with all of you! With the day of the dead approaching fast, let's have a look at some of the scariest movie monsters ever.
DOPPELGÄNGERS
A doppelgänger is a person's physical double. Seeing one's own doppelgänger often heralds death or serious illness. Paranormal investigators believe that the doppelgänger is an individual's past or future self. In some traditions, the double has no shadow or reflection.
Here are two seriously creepy horror movies about doppelgängers...
The Broken (2009): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IBbVSlVUiio
Dream Lover (1986): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iMa9s-gYxyc
EVIL KIDS
There's something undeniably scary about children gone evil whether it's through vampirism ("Salem's Lot"), radioactivity ("The Children Of Ravensback"), aliens ("Village Of The Damned") or just plain insanity ("Devil Times Five", "We Need To Talk About Kevin”, "The Good Son").
The following are my favorite evil kids movies...
The Children Of Ravensback (1980): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8aJDLCFzo8
Bloody Birthday (1981): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VpiELzyx-Xc
¿Quien puede matar a un niño? (aka Who Can Kill A Child?, aka Island Of The Damned)(1976): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-GQThxd3DE&feature=related
THE UNDEAD
As Jud Crandall says in Pet Sematary: « Sometimes dead is better. » Many close friends and family members have seen recently deceased people in their homes, but somehow these real-life encounters with the undead are never as scary as in the movies.
Ringu (1998): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qbj-Ihy3ncQ
Let's Scare Jessica To Death (1971): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cX4eZD3GiL0
The Shining (1980): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Cb3ik6zP2I&feature=related
What are your favorite monsters?

Vampire Professor Bertena Varney on Vampires for Kids

Today, Bertena Varney, The Vampire Professor, will talk about where to find child-appropriate vampire media.
~~~VAMPIRES FOR CHILDREN~~~
Imagine going in to a store and asking for vampire items for kids. Whether it is a preschool or easy reader book or a cartoon DVD, adults will give you a strange look when you have an arm full of vampire items for children.
The comment that comes up the most is. “I didn’t know that there were vampires for kids. Isn’t it too scary and violent? I would never let my child have stuff that has vampires in it.”
I just laugh at this because most of the vampire related items for children are items that most parents don’t even realize that their own children are watching.
The questions that I place to these parents are, “Has your child ever watched Sesame Street or Scooby Doo?” Well, then your child has been exposed to the creepy monster known as the vampire.
I recently bought a book titled, Dick and Jane and Vampires for my nephew for Christmas. I opened the book to the very picture that showed the kids running away from the vampire screaming. Wow – that wouldn’t win anyone over. As I flipped through the book I noticed most of the pictures looked like that, until you read the accompanying text. The children were learning that not everything they see is as it appears. But to a parent just opening the book, it was not proving my point at all. It actually looked scary.
And what was my point? My point was that not all things are what they appear to be. There is a vampire for children that is age appropriate and facilitates learning. However, many adults just think about sharing their interest with their children with age appropriate material. Being a former public school teacher I stress, appropriate age related material here.
At the end of this blog, you the reader will find a small list of child appropriate shows and books for children.
Today, my guest is Fallon, the heroine of Moonlight by Katie Salidas.
Welcome to Sexy Saturday with Cedric, Fallon! I do hope you’ll share a few spicy tidbits, my darling. Settle into my hot seat of love. Don’t worry--I never bite unless invited. Please introduce yourself and your friends to the readers.
Hey Cedric, thanks for having me here today. I’m honored, really, but you can put those fangs away. I’m not into biting. I know what you’re thinking, best friend is a vampire and yet I am still creeped out by fangs. I don’t think I’ll really ever get over it. But, as long as you don’t try to steal a pint of the old 0-negative, we’re good.
Fallon, I must say, I’m not usually into humans—unless they are David Bowie, but you, my dear, are quite the delicious little tidbit. Why don’t you share a little about your vital statistics? What makes you such a mouth-watering object of desire?
You really are a flirt, aren’t you? Alyssa warned me about your sweet talking. I guess I should have listened. Well, I wouldn’t go as far as saying I’m an object of desire for all men. I like to think of what I have as Nerd Chic! Brainy sex appeal. The only thing I’m missing is glasses and I’d have the complete package. In fact, that’s what Aiden (He’s my sexy wolfman) fell for first. He just loves that I know my way around a PC.
Tell me a little about yourself—don’t spare any juicy details.
Well, I’m originally from Vegas, but recently transplanted to Boston because of the whole Pandora’s Box fiasco. Hey, no one told me that box was cursed, and as a human I had no choice but to open it. That’s all in the past though. My family is all back home in Vegas, I’ve got a mother and brother back there. Dad died when I was young. Hmm, what else? Oh, I graduated from UNLV with my Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems. I wanted to go back and finish my masters, but, well, life happened. Or really, should I call that un-death? I’m not sure how vamps really “see” that whole immortality thing. Anyway, I’m getting off topic here.Once we (Alyssa and the rest of the Peregrinus clan) hit Boston, I met my wolfman and we’ve been inseparable ever since.
Share a little of your fascinating world. What is it like to “run with the pack”, so to speak?
Oh, the pack… they’re great… now. They took a lot of convincing though to accept me. They have rules and ceremonies for everything. I’m still learning the ropes there. Being the “mate” of the Alpha, means not only knowing the rules, but living them and setting an example. It’s been a hard transition, but I do enjoy the monthly moonlight revelries. Those parties are awesome. You should come sometime. We’re a very vampire friendly pack. Just one rule, no drinking blood on our lands. If you need to feed, take it somewhere else. There are many human relatives among the pack and we have to ensure their safety.
What are some of the unique challenges that face you and your furry friends?
Being a mixed pack, we are very supernatural friendly in the Olde Town, we have a lot of “community” issues. If the vampires have trouble, it’s our trouble too. If the local witches have trouble… you get the idea. Some packs are very exclusive and don’t bother with the other supernaturals out there. Ours believes that we are all in the minority and need to use our collective special abilities to help each other out. While it sounds noble, and it is, it can be very troubling. Keeping so many supernaturals under the radar from the Acta Sanctorum is no easy feat.
Alright, the burning question--how do you feel about vampires?
I’m totally cool with vamps. I mean, my best friend is one, I’ve been living in a house full of vamps for moths, and my pack is allied with a vampire clan. I don’t have issues with you all as a species. I just get freaked out by the whole blood drinking thing. I mean, you have no choice, right? So I can’t really fault you for it. But it does give me the heebie jeebies.
What do you look for in your ideal partner? Is the fur coat optional or does a smooth-as-marble Scottish vampire lad have a chance?
There you go with that flirting again. You’re hot, don’t get me wrong, but I just can’t deal with the fangs. Sorry.I really had never even entertained the idea of going supernatural. Until I met Aiden, I was content with ordinary men. I guess, the universe had other ideas for me. Though I have to say it… Once you go wolf, you can never, ever go back!
I’ve had my share of tumultuous relationships, but I must admit, I prefer those that present a challenge, like my darling Mia, or Lord Liu. Do you like someone who lets you take the lead, or do you like strong-minded lovers?
Being mated to the Alpha of the Olde Town pack should say it all. He’s a born leader and that is such a sexy quality. A leader isn’t just someone who rules with an iron paw. He does that well enough, but it’s the caring and compassion he brings to the title that really amps up the attractiveness. He’s fair and just and kind all wrapped up in a warm fur coat. That said, he also knows when to roll over and let me take the lead when I’m feeling like exerting a little dominance… if you know what I mean.
What is your idea of the perfect evening? All great lovers have their trade secrets. How you create the perfect romantic atmosphere?
The perfect evening? Is there such a thing. We carve out any alone time we can and make that special. The alpha’s work is never done, so we are usually pretty busy tending to pack business and the daily running and maintenance of the Wolf Preserve. For us, romance has been replaced by quickies… lots of them… what can I say, wolves are frisky, and I’m not complaining. There was one night where we stepped out for a moonlight run. Aiden knows the forest like the back of his paw. He found us this nice little spot near the water. Just us and the crickets. The peacefulness of it was divine.
Well, who is that lurking in the background? Mmm…I like the looks of him. Any friend of yours is a friend of mine. So, are you and that strapping bloke with the growl up for a threesome? I mean the good kind—him, you and me?
Even if Aiden were willing, I don’t share. Never learned that skill in Kindergarten. But, seeing as he’s here, that must mean it’s time for me to head out. Like I said, the Alpha’s job is never done!
Too Bad, it would have been divine.
Thanks so much for having me here today. Be sure to read our story, Moonlight.
My authoress, Ms. Verrico, wrote a review of Moonlight. Be sure to read it and grab a copy of this steamy and exciting book!
MoonlightGood girls don’t wear fur, or fight over men, and they certainly don’t run around naked, howling at the moon.
But then, no-one ever called Fallon a good girl.
As a human unofficially mated to an Alpha werewolf, Fallon is being pressured to “become”...or be gone.
Her mate Aiden, the interim leader of the Olde Town Pack, is in a position that demands he either choose a wolf mate...or leave the pack forever. No matter how hot the sex with Fallon is, he can’t ignore centuries of tradition.
Become a wolf or not. If only the choice were that simple. Fallon’s options are further clouded by the overt presence of other females desperate to be the Alpha’s mate. And when these bitches get serious, it’s not just claws that come out. If Fallon wants to keep her man and take the title she’ll have to exert a little dominance of her own.
Someone knocked on the door, a soft almost tapping sound. It was my turn to growl, only this time it was out of frustration. I wasn’t ready to end our moment. “I’m busy.” Aiden shouted to the door. “Sorry, boss.” Diana said. “Micah is here and the rest of the council are meeting in the conference room.”“Bad timing,” I grumbled.“We’ll have to continue this later.” Aiden’s shoulders sagged. “Do you want me to join you in council?”“No. I need to give them the good news though. That should get them off my back. For now, you get that sexy ass into a shower and be ready for me to ravage you again later.” He stood and retrieved his boxers and pants.“Is that all I am to you?” I joked as I sat up on the desk. “Your little play thing.”“No, that’s just one of the perks.” He stole one last kiss and headed for the door. “I won’t be long. I promise.”“You better not.”He walked out, passed Diana and headed down the hallway. She stood in the doorway and once Aiden had walked out of sight turned to me and sneered. I sat proudly on top of Aiden’s desk, naked from the waist down, and crossed my legs. “You think you’re untouchable, don’t you?” Diana spat at me.“You’re treading a very thin line, lady.”“Tough words for a human. I could shred you right here.”“So do it. What are you waiting for? Oh, right… Aiden would have your head for that.”“Accidents happen.” An evil glint shone in her eye and a smile spread across her face. I wasn’t going to let her scare me. I glared back at her. “They do, don’t they? I’d feel terrible if my fist just accidentally found your face. Cut the crap. You don’t want me for an enemy.” As soon as I became Female Alpha, I planned to make her life hell.“Why, because your fucking the boss?” She rolled her eyes. “Oh yes, I heard. Half the pack heard you. You’re quite the little slut, aren’t you? Just walking into the boss’s office and screwing him as loud as you can for all to hear. Bet you feel like you’re something hot, don’t you?”I folded my arms in front of me. “Lemme tell you a little secret. No one wants a human mating with the Alpha. The council won’t allow it, and I won’t stand for it.” I smiled. “Well that’s just fine by me. I won’t remain a human for long.”She scoffed. “Not everyone survives the transition. There are ways to swing the odds either way.”“Are you threatening me?”“Why? Are you scared?” She sashayed toward me. Her smug expression sent my blood boiling. I gritted my teeth to stop me from saying anything else. I knew what she was doing, trying to get me to snap and she was dangerously close. I was no match for her yet, so I couldn’t challenge her to a fight, but once I transitioned, she would slowly and painfully eat every last word.“I’m going to tell you one last time.” Her voice went deadly quiet. “Leave Aiden and this pack… for your own safety.” I couldn’t help the shiver of fear that threatened to reveal itself. I turned away hoping to keep it hidden and give off the vibe that she was not worth my attention. “Get it through your head. Aiden and I are already mates,” I said with as much conviction as I could muster.“You’ll never be his true mate.”Something slammed hard into the back of my head. Before I could register the pain the world went dark and I felt myself freefalling into nothingness.
Someone knocked on the door, a soft almost tapping sound. It was my turn to growl, only this time it was out of frustration. I wasn’t ready to end our moment. “I’m busy.” Aiden shouted to the door. “Sorry, boss.” Diana said. “Micah is here and the rest of the council are meeting in the conference room.”“Bad timing,” I grumbled.“We’ll have to continue this later.” Aiden’s shoulders sagged. “Do you want me to join you in council?”“No. I need to give them the good news though. That should get them off my back. For now, you get that sexy ass into a shower and be ready for me to ravage you again later.” He stood and retrieved his boxers and pants.“Is that all I am to you?” I joked as I sat up on the desk. “Your little play thing.”“No, that’s just one of the perks.” He stole one last kiss and headed for the door. “I won’t be long. I promise.”“You better not.”He walked out, passed Diana and headed down the hallway. She stood in the doorway and once Aiden had walked out of sight turned to me and sneered. I sat proudly on top of Aiden’s desk, naked from the waist down, and crossed my legs. “You think you’re untouchable, don’t you?” Diana spat at me.“You’re treading a very thin line, lady.”“Tough words for a human. I could shred you right here.”“So do it. What are you waiting for? Oh, right… Aiden would have your head for that.”“Accidents happen.” An evil glint shone in her eye and a smile spread across her face. I wasn’t going to let her scare me. I glared back at her. “They do, don’t they? I’d feel terrible if my fist just accidentally found your face. Cut the crap. You don’t want me for an enemy.” As soon as I became Female Alpha, I planned to make her life hell.“Why, because your fucking the boss?” She rolled her eyes. “Oh yes, I heard. Half the pack heard you. You’re quite the little slut, aren’t you? Just walking into the boss’s office and screwing him as loud as you can for all to hear. Bet you feel like you’re something hot, don’t you?”I folded my arms in front of me. “Lemme tell you a little secret. No one wants a human mating with the Alpha. The council won’t allow it, and I won’t stand for it.” I smiled. “Well that’s just fine by me. I won’t remain a human for long.”She scoffed. “Not everyone survives the transition. There are ways to swing the odds either way.”“Are you threatening me?”“Why? Are you scared?” She sashayed toward me. Her smug expression sent my blood boiling. I gritted my teeth to stop me from saying anything else. I knew what she was doing, trying to get me to snap and she was dangerously close. I was no match for her yet, so I couldn’t challenge her to a fight, but once I transitioned, she would slowly and painfully eat every last word.“I’m going to tell you one last time.” Her voice went deadly quiet. “Leave Aiden and this pack… for your own safety.” I couldn’t help the shiver of fear that threatened to reveal itself. I turned away hoping to keep it hidden and give off the vibe that she was not worth my attention. “Get it through your head. Aiden and I are already mates,” I said with as much conviction as I could muster.“You’ll never be his true mate.”Something slammed hard into the back of my head. Before I could register the pain the world went dark and I felt myself freefalling into nothingness.
Roy Hudson
Today I welcome Roy Hudson to Immortyl Revolution! He's the author of a new thriller, Relic. Roy has graciously offered to sponsor a giveaway and share a Halloween experience and a short tale.
Giveaway: Leave a comment and contact email and you will be entered to win an ebook of of Roy's Halloween Tales! Deadline to enter is 10/31/12 at 11 p.m. EST. Winner will be chosen by random drawing.
'Halloween is my favorite time of year and always has been. I guess it's because horror is my genre of choice. It may also help that my sister is Wiccan and I lived in a haunted house for years.
In October of 2000, I decided to talk to the spirits residing in our home by use of a Ouija board, and since nobody was around who wanted to help, I planned to do so alone. Everyone warned against this, but I was determined.
Halloween arrived, and I went to the laundry room to get some clean clothes... only to discover that the room was flooded. I blamed the ghosts immediately. We called a plumber, who had to dig a hole in the front yard to snake the drain.
The plumber left without covering the hole, and so small children who came into our yard for tricks or treats kept falling in. It was nice to see that, even though I was scared out of my solo Ouija discussion, the ghosts had a sense of humor.
I have a collection of Halloween-related shorts and poems, some scary, some not, available now on Smashwords.com for 99 cents. Below is a very short story from the collection.
"Halloween Prop: A 5x5 Short Story," by Roy Hudson
The truck was dragging something. It looked like human corpses. I yelled, “Great Halloween props!” And then it hit me. I was the next “prop.”
Also available now, through Firefly & Wisp Publishing, is my Halloween-related novel Relic. Get it for Kindle for only $2.99!
RelicGenre film actor R.L. Simmons is finally getting the acclaim he has worked for, with an award nomination and spots on talk shows to promote his new mainstream film; but when an accident disfigures him, he feels his life is over. Things turn around for him when he falls in love with actress Julie Hawkes at a Hollywood Halloween party, and things seem fine... until a stalker with a score to settle comes to spoil their happiness. Can Julie's love heal the actor's mental and emotional scars?
Author A. J. Scudiere on The Darkside/Book Giveaways!
Today, it is my great pleasure to welcome A. J. Scudiere to Immortyl Revolution! I met A. J. through sci fi conventions, and I was thrilled that she agreed to write a guest post. Since it's October, she has written something on the Darkside.
Whatever Made Me Turn To Darkness?
That’s a difficult answer. If you meet me, you probably wouldn’t guess that I like my stories dark and twisty. I’m cheerful. I’m blonde. I smile a lot and I’m optimistic in the face of overwhelming odds. I might even be called ‘cute.’ (ßgrrr)
This love of the sinister may go back to when I was a small child (I love how ominous that sounds.) My parents didn't teach me to read, they had been told to let the school do it. But in kindergarten, our teachers divided us into ‘those who could already read a bit’ and ‘those who couldn't ’ I was in the ‘ couldn't’ group and my best friend Morgan was in the ‘could.’ And boy was I pissed. (You have to respect a story that starts with the ‘sinister’ and then goes to a pissed off kindergartner ) I decided I’d learn to read so well that they’d all regret not putting me in the advanced group. Looking back, I realize that this isn't nearly as threatening as I thought it was at the time.
At age six, I had showed them all how well I could read. So well, in fact, that I was tired of kid materials and I wound up scrounging around for adult books. (Remember, YA was not the juggernaut that it is today. It was an incredibly small genre, written mostly by S.E. Hinton.) To this day, I have no clue how I wound up with a copy of The Amityville Horror . . . I do remember that my mother took it away from me repeatedly. But I was six, I fit into small spaces, and I was persistent. I kept getting it back and I read every page.
Luckily, my own life has been relatively calm. I've been married twice, but my divorce was amicable. My kids are healthy and smart and my parents are still alive. What does someone like me have to write about?
Oh yeah, all that dark and twisty stuff that lingers in the back of my head. I love a good apocalypse! I root for the hero who isn’t one—the character who is very human (some good qualities, some bad, some clueless.) And I want my characters to be in the middle of some incredibly difficult situations (see the aforementioned apocalypse.) I’ve had some revenge on the mafia go very wrong. I created Katharine who has to choose between good and evil, demon and angel, only she can’t tell which one is which. And I recently finished PHOENIX, about Jason who has a missing brother he doesn't remember. And whoever set the fire that killed his mother and nearly killed him is trying to keep Jason from putting all the puzzle pieces together . . .
I’m currently writing my fifth book, INERTIA. It’s about a family restoring a plantation when they find an old document that brings some very big trouble down on them. It’s a sort of Sci-Fi meets ‘The Firm.’
So I’m going to go make some peanut butter sandwiches for my kids. And I’ll smile and tell the children to play nice with the kids next door. But you know I’m going to be thinking about Kayla holding a shotgun and whether or not she’s going to kill the man in front of her if he won’t tell her where Ivy is . . .
A big thanks to A. J. for joining me today! Here is a little about her newest release!
Jason Mondy’s world is unraveling.
He may be the town hero, but his job is in chaos,
his girlfriend has left him and his nightmares keep him from sleeping.
Even just a simple trip home to find some rest leads his adoptive mother to
share a secret she’s kept for over twenty-six years . . .
Jason has a brother he doesn’t remember existed.
He doesn’t remember his life before he was adopted at age seven.
Now the foundation on which he built his world is crumbling.
The life he doesn’t remember is lost somewhere and his brother left behind.
Armed with only this stunning new piece of information,
Jason embarks on a quest to find the truths buried deep in his past.
As he searches, one by one the pieces of his life fall like dominoes.
And the more he uncovers, the more everything he thought he knew
about himself and his past
begins to turn to ash.
His truth isn’t true at all . . .
Biography of best-selling thriller
author A.J. Scudiere
It’s A.J.’s world. A strange place where patterns jump out and catch the eye, little is missed, and most of it can be recalled with a deep breath; it’s different from the world the rest of us inhabit. But the rest of us can experience it—when we read. In this world, the smell of Florida takes three weeks to fully leave the senses and the air in Dallas is so thick that the planes “sink” to the runways rather than actually landing.For A.J., texture reigns supreme. Whether it’s air or blood or virus, it can be felt and smelled. Reality is always a little bit off from the norm and something usually lurks right under the surface. As a storyteller, A.J. loves irony, the unexpected, and a puzzle where all the pieces fit and make sense. Originally a scientist and a teacher, the writer says research is always a key player in the stories. AJ’s motto is “It could happen. It wouldn’t. But it could.”A.J. has lived in Florida and Los Angeles among a handful of other places. Recent whims have brought the dark writer to Tennessee, where home is a deceptively normal-looking neighborhood just outside Nashville.
Sexy Cedric: Amy Mah Vampire on Waking Up Naked in a Strange Bed with a Hangover and No Memory of How You Got There
Welcome, my darlings, to another Sexy Saturday with Cedric! Halloween is coming and I have a treat for you. (No, not that, I'm far too expensive.) Today, my guest is the always delicious Amy Mah. She writes about a problem that your host has dealt with on countless occasions: What to do when you wake up naked in a strange bed with no idea how you got there?
Waking up Naked in a strange bed with a Hangover and no memory of how you got there.
Bed and sleeping with people is always a problem and as I always say Sleeping with another girl does not always mean you are a lesbian sometimes it just means the central heating needs fixing.
So back to waking up naked in strange bed with a hangover and no memory of how you got there, every drinking girl's nightmare, along with the worry of where you left your clothes.
So you slowly open your eyes and painfully look around a strange room which from the décor shouts rather too loudly of cheap motel …….and the way your head feel it says it far too laud even if it whispered it.
A cheap nylon sheet is covering you …….er ………..and that is all you have covering you ………. A fur coat would have been nice …….shut up …….you don’t mind who I kill and eat but you object to me liking fur ….huh………….you humans are so odd if I said a human corpse covering you would not have cared !!!
Is it all that is covering you …er…yes you check twice and a single piece of coloured cord around ones wrist does not count! Supporting the local cat’s home is very charitable but does not count as clothing.
So what happens next?
1. A man leaves some money on the bed side table as he puts on his trousers and leaves …………
Action: ……….you scream ……………. What just $20 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2. You turn to one side and see a naked man and two naked female fashion models in bed with you
Action: Roll over and go back to sleep you are ether in some guys dream or if real with the fashion models in bed with you than you know your honour is quite safe.
3. There is Eric the vampire from True Blood next to you in bed.
Action: ………….. Pounce on him ….he is not going to get away again!
4. You notice the room is empty apart from a pile of female clothes which are not yours.
Action :………. ….You know that no matter how short the skirt is you will go without underwear today as there is just no way you are ever going to put on another persons used underwear!
5. You look down and see you are now a guy You have changed sex during the night !!!! And then you hear a female voice near by asked how was it for you and shall we do it again?Action:……………. Hope whatever the new extra bits you have know what they are going to do with out you having to order an owner’s manual from Amazon, but then as you stare at what is between your legs and now you more fear that the bigger problem will be trying to fit back into the micro dress you had on last night
6. You look down and you are still female but you hear a female voice near by asked how was it for you and shall we do it again.
Action: ……………. Telling her you have a headache only works on guys so you look on the bright side no matter what went on its now too late and turn to her thinking at least you won’t get pregnant.
7. You look down at your hand and discover a gold band on your wedding finger and snoring coming from someone near you in bed.
Action………………. Panic ! all you can remember are day glow cocktails with strange names like oblivion and something so pretty that it could not be alcoholic………. You can only remember talking to two people last night 1. a long distant truck driver who got his tattoos while in jail and 2. the bartender you are really praying it is the bartender next to you and then you remember the bartender was female and remembering the tattoos still pray it is the bartender!
8. You look around the empty room and remember that you booked yourself in last night just after being sick over the guy you fancied and you did not even remember eating peas. But he refused to take you home so you crashed here.
Action:……………….You pray to all the gods you know thanking them for the pounding head and the feeling of still wanting to be sick as it could have been far worse!
Book Description
Today's world is difficult for everyone, especially teenagers. They face the stresses of school, deciding whom to date, and the biggie of sex, just to name a few. Imagine all of those things ten times worse, and you might get an idea of what it's like being a living, breathing teenage vampire. At last, the world can read about the life of a girl with good teeth, her problems with strong sunlight that gave her spots, and the sunblock that made her hair go yucky and produced more spots. Yes, sunlight was dangerous, as she could be the first teenager in history to die from terminal acne! In her everyday life, older vampires expected her to walk about at night in the traditional female uniform, a see-through, 18th-century nightdress, without undies! Well, this female vampire knew why the cold winds blowing along the corridors were called, "male winds," so she wore her see-through nightdress over jeans and a very thick jumper. To be sure that people would still know she was a vampire, the jumper had a very large, pink bat on it. And as to guys, well, it was normal for a girl to dream about guys; she just wished the dreams could have involved chocolates and holding hands, not leaping out at someone, ripping off his shirt, and demanding to know what blood type he was (at least not on the first date).
About the AuthorThe Author Amelia Mah is a 20 something snarky, sarcastic and cynical author who has a very popular blog of how she sees the world from the point of view of a modern teenage vampire. Following the success of her first book "FANGS RULE A girls guide to being a vampire" she had now expanded the idea of life as a teenage vampire into a full novel Amelia has given her avatar her own name so you can see the world first hand from a very bored teenage vampire that has been forced to remain a teenager for far too long She may have very good teeth and the ability to hang from ceilings but life is far from easy.
