MOVIE LOVERS - SNEAK PREVIEW!

Here's a sneak preview from my newest book, MOVIE LOVERS, set to release at the end of this month from Secret Cravings Publishing.

Grace Brewster couldn’t control her breathing. Alone with Gunther Quill. Little me with one of the biggest producers in Hollywood. He leaned against the corner of his desk. The sleeves of his white shirt were rolled up to the elbows, the neck, unbuttoned. His light blue striped tie hung loose. Grace noticed his perfect haircut and the whitest smile she’d ever seen. Brown hair going gorgeously gray at the temples and broad shoulders drew her attention. No wedding ring. No family pictures on his desk or credenza. He’s sex on wheels.
His dark brown eyes feasted on her body, not missing one curve or her dangerously low cut top. Suddenly feeling naked, Grace leaned back a little in her chair, folding her arms across her breasts. Her rich brown curls fell loosely about her shoulders. She blinked at him with the same big, ocean blues as her sister, actress Cara Brewster.
“Tell me a little about your script, Ms. Brewster.
Does it have a love scene?”She gulped, her mouth dry as day-old bread. “Of course.”
“Tell me…no, no. Show me.” His eyes danced as he strolled closer to her.
“Show you?” Her palms began to sweat as she rose slowly from her chair. “How?”
“The best scriptwriters act out their scripts. Show me. Make me feel it.” His magnetic gaze held hers.
Before she could catch her breath, he was standing right in front of her, his chest almost touching hers. He reached out to her locks, rubbing some fine strands between his fingers.
“You are just as beautiful as your sister,” he whispered.

Blurb

Can revenge turn to regret? Duped by slick, famous producer, Gunther Quill, Grace Brewster makes the biggest mistake of her life. Feeling humiliated by Quill and Jake Matthews, her sister’s Broadway co-star, Grace vows to even the score with both men. Using an alias and the Internet, she executes a genius payback plot. Her attacks hit their mark, wounding her intended targets. But she didn’t count on her sharp words going viral before she can blink, taking the injury to a new level.

Her satisfaction is short-lived when the scheme turns sour. Her plan backfires, turning into a huge secret she shares with a cold-blooded tabloid journalist. Can she trust this ruthless opportunist to keep her secret from the man she loves and the sister she adores? Or will she be exposed and robbed of the only happiness she’s known since the death of her beloved mother?     My Website

SWEET SATURDAY SAMPLE

Welcome! Thanks for stopping by. Here's a sweet sample from my latest release: MEMORIES OF LOVE

Sweet, heartfelt pledges to stay together and love each other forever were challenged in the taxi on the way to the airport. Grant disintegrated emotionally, when her leaving became so real. Anger flooded into his heart.“Let’s be honest, Carol Anne. You’re never coming back.”She gasped and turned to face him. “How can you say that?”“Because it’s true.” He grasped her arms, holding her still. “Can you honestly deny it?”“You’re assuming a lot, here. Like I’m going to be successful. A big leap…based on nothing.”“And if you’re not successful with the first film, are you going to stay for another or come home to me? Huh? Stay and keep trying, right? You’re no quitter.”“I’m not, but that doesn’t mean…”“Doesn’t mean what? Doesn’t mean that you’re quitting me? Come off it. Be honest.”Carol Anne burst into tears. “I love you. I don’t want to quit you, Grant. Are you leaving me?”“I’m not going anywhere.”“Always the lawyer. Are you breaking up with me?”“I can’t. I wouldn’t. I love you too much,” he whispered.“Then what are you talking about?”“I’m talking about reality. We’ll be three thousand miles away from each other, Cara Mia. That’s beyond geographically undesirable. That’s straight to…impossible.” A Bit About the Book
Can true love survive anything? A marriage to another? A seven year separation? Pregnant and alone, Cara stars in her first movie while Grant marries another. When felled by illness, she’s forced to give her child to Grant. Five years later, Fate strikes, reuniting them by chance. Will they discover that true love never dies?Buy LinksAMAZONMy websiteBACK TO SWEET SAT SAMPLES

TUESDAY TALES - SHOE

WELCOME TO TUESDAY TALES. I'M WRITING ANOTHER EPISODE OF THE RESCUED HEART TO THE WORD PROMPT "SHOE".
THE RESCUED HEART

Rory held the phone to her ear as she returned to the sofa.
“Wait, Bess, Hack's here,” she looked up at him.“Remember this. The Pound. Three-fourteen East Ninetieth. On our way.” She hung up the phone and slipped on her shoes as Hack approached the computer chair.
“Don’t bother. We have to go to…that address I just gave you?” Hack repeated it verbatim.
“I have to be here and only here. According to the judge.”
“But we need to rescue a pug from the pound. They’re gonna put him to sleep because he’s old.”He shook his head. “The judge said…”
Tears filled Rory’s eyes.
“You call yourself a vet and yet you’re going to let a pug die because you don’t want to be... inconvenienced?”
He stared at her as tears cascaded down her face.
“Fuck it. Let’s go. Don’t tell the judge, okay?”
“We’ll take the train.”
“A cab... on me.” He held the door for Rory.
“For a minute, I thought I’d pegged you wrong,” she said, in the cab, drying her eyes with his handkerchief.
“Pegged wrong?
How did you have me pegged?”
Rory glanced out the window.“As a nice guy.
A guy who cared. Underneath all that arrogant, self-satisfied crap might actually be a guy who gave a damn about others. Otherwise, why would you be a vet?”Hack looked at his hands. She glanced at him and saw color in his face.
“Guess I forget that sometimes.”
“Not today. Today you’re a hero. Right here, driver,” Rory said, leaning forward.

****

Back in Rory's apartment.
She held the door while Hack carried Alfred inside. He laid the small pug on the floor.
“He needs to have his nails clipped. He’s filthy, flea-infested, and looks like he’s coming down with something. His nose is running. I’d better take him to the clinic. Don’t want Baxter to get sick, too.”
Rory nodded.
“Of course, I’m still your slave for another hour and a half.”
“I give you my blessing to take him to the clinic.”
Rory put a dish of fresh water down in front of Alfred. He drank.“That’s great. Give him water, so he can pee all over me on the way.”
“But he’s thirsty!”
“Bleeding heart…” he muttered.
“Can you say the same of Miss Thin Mints?” She stared at him.
“Why do you care if I’m engaged to Felicia? You hate me anyway…smug, creep that I am.”
“I don’t hate you,” Rory turned away to hide her blush.
He arched an eyebrow. “You give a damned good imitation of it.”
“How I feel about you doesn’t matter. We have a life to save.”

ON THE ROAD TO CINCINNATI

Day One - Captain's Log

By 11 a.m. I was ready for a carefree drive on a gloriously sunny day. Was I listening to my intuition? No. I pulled up to a red light on West 77th Street and remembered...Oops! Forgot my shampoo and special conditioner. I pondered going back for it. Around the block! Ugh. Ten minutes lost. I'll buy another one.

My intuition kept nagging me to go back but did I listen? NO! At the last possible stop in  New Jersey to buy cheap gas, I pulled in and looked down. I was immediately filled with dread. It wasn't there. My purse. Not there. Check the backseat. Nope. Not there either. Check the trunk. Nope.

My heart started to pound, adrenaline pumping. I had done the unthinkable...the one thing women NEVER do! I'd left home without my purse. I felt naked. Call Larry. No phone. No money, no credit cards. Yipes! I checked the gas tank. Still half full. Thank GOD I didn't wait until it was almost empty.

The young attendant let me use his cell. I called Larry who had left 10 messages before he realized my phone was in my purse in the kitchen. He had to be in court in the Bronx for a client that afternoon. I jumped in the car. Only 67 miles. I can do this! I floored it.

To make matters worse, I zigged when I should have zagged and ended up in The Oranges, instead of on 80 heading East to Manhattan. Lost fifteen minutes finding my way back. I cut off one driver who made the sign for drinking, suggesting I was drunk. I held up my bottle of Cherry Coke and repressed the urge to flip him the bird. I got lost, you idiot!

One more OMG moment when I realized that luck kicked in when I went for the EZ Pass from the car rental company. It's something I've never opted for in the past. Holy crap! If I hadn't done that, I couldn't pay the toll to get back into NYC! Hell, I'd be selling books on the highway and might still be there...

So I did 67 miles three times by 3:30, before I even reached Pennsylvania! I think that qualifies for some kind of award. Maybe Schmuck of the Year? All comments welcome.

Tuesday Tales - Train

Welcome. Thank you for coming. This week's story is the continuation of "The Rescued Heart". Last week Hack said some harsh words to Rory about her writing. This begins the next day. Please join the fabulous Tuesday Tales writers through a link below.

THE RESCUED HEARTRory’s pulse fluttered.  The pain of Hack’s insult from the day before still seared her heart. His words stung sharply every time she replayed them; “that stuff you call romance is the worst crap I’ve ever read.”   What’s worse, she knew he was right, which made her humiliation more painful. How can I continue to ask him to type for me when what I'm writing isn’t worth his time or mine either?
She sank down on the sofa next to Baxter. He rested his chin on her leg. She petted the pug idly while her stomach churned. Hack would be there any minute and she didn’t know what to say. How can I face him? How can I ask him to come here anymore and yet if he stops coming…
“Rory, you stupid ass. You’re in love with that insufferable man.” She put her head in her hands. “How the hell did this happen? He’s smug. In love with himself and engaged… to the worst excuse for a woman I’ve ever seen. Damn! I’ve bought a one-way ticket on the love train.”  She made a cup of tea and joined Baxter.  ****
A few blocks away in his office at the clinic, Hack paced. How am I going to go back there? I’ve insulted her, hurt her, really badly. Not like the little shots at Felicia. Didn’t you see her face, you idiot? She was mortally wounded! And now you have to go back or go to jail. Going back might be worse than jail. She’s so vulnerable, how could you do it? “I’ll explain...what I really meant.”  The door opened.
“Talking to yourself ?” Felicia walked in. “Ever since you’ve been typing for that bloodsucker…”
“She’s not a bloodsucker.”
“Oh!” Felicia spied the roses. “For me? After skipping out on dinner last night you…”
“Those aren’t for you.”
“What?”
He picked up the roses and headed for the door.
“They’re for her?” Felicia spat at him.
“I need to apologize.”
“Did you make a pass at her?”
“Don’t be ridiculous. See you later.” He moved through the door and out onto the street before Felicia could utter another word.

He buzzed Rory’s apartment. What if she doesn’t let me in? The answering buzz came quickly. He marched up the stairs like he was going to face a firing squad. Her tongue is as sharp as a sabre.
Hereyes puffy from crying, Rory opened the door. Hack produced the flowers from behind his back. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to hurt you. It came out all wrong.”
Her face brightened as she took the flowers from him. “They’re beautiful...thank you.”
Just like you. He hesitated on the threshold. “Come in, come in.” She tugged on his hand.

TUESDAY TALES - WORD PROMPT "LIBRARY"

Hack looked up at Rory’s library of books, sitting in her bookcase.
“What do you read?” He took a bite of a homemade chocolate chip cookie. They were on a break. “Mysteries and romance. You?” She sipped her tea.“Medical books and an occasional thriller.”
“Does Miss Skin and Bones read?”
“Just the fashion news.”
Rory nodded. “Aha, I see. A real intellectual.”
“She’s the best at what she does.”
“Hey, next time I have a shoe crisis or a dress emergency, I’ll be sure to call her.” Hack laughed in spite of himself.  “Okay, maybe it’s not of Earth-shattering importance…”
“She’s a dummy. Face it. You must be smart to have made it through vet school, though you hide it well.”
His face colored. “See here! I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Cornell!”
“Well, whoopee! That and a token will get you on the subway.”
“I’m not a dummy and neither is Felicia!”
“She isn’t? She doesn’t even get my jokes. She has no idea when
I’m laughing at her. She’s not a smart chickie, Hack. Face it. She must have…other charms.”

“Well...”
“Oh? She doesn’t satisfy you in the bedroom?” Oh my God! Rory, shut up!“That’s none of your business!” Rory saw him sneak a peek at her cleavage, amply displayed in the lowest cut t-shirt she could find, simply to tease and torment him.
“She’s missing something, two somethings?”
Hack drew his gaze back to the plate of Rory’s cookies and took another. “These are great.”
“You’ll never get those…or other 'cookies', when you marry  Miss Skeleton.”
Hack burst out laughing. “I’ve been waiting for you to run out of insults for Felicia and hot damn, you  haven’t yet. Words are definitely your game.”
“Thank you.” Rory blushed with pride.
“But that stuff you're writing is the worst crap I’ve ever read.Surely someone as smart as you can do better.” Her empty teacup clattered to the floor, smashing into a dozen pieces. Rory stared at him as her breath caught in her throat.  For the first time, she had no rejoinder. Hack bent down to pick up the pieces. The silence was deafening. After a few seconds, Rory recovered enough to squeak out a response.
“Today’s session is over. You can leave now. Go back to Felicia. Get laid. Whatever.”
“Felicia? Don’t tell me you’ve finally run out of epithets?
“Please go.” She could hardly breathe.
He put his hand on her arm. “Hey, look, if I overstepped…I’m sorry. I just meant…”
“Please. I’m tired.”
He left quietly. Once she heard his steps descending the stairs, she let the tears flow. With her back to the door, she slid down to the floor, sobbing. Baxter joined her at the door, barking and licking her face.

TUESDAY TALE - WORD PROMPT "BITE"

THE RESCUED HEART“No lunch today?” Rory’s gaze traveled the length of Hack. She liked looking at his tall, muscular frame
“I forgot. Don’t usually bring lunch to the clinic. I send out.” He took his seat by the computer.
“Guess you’ll have to suffer through some of my food  today."
At noon, Rory stopped dictating and raised her arms high above her head. Her sharp eyes noticed Hack staring at her chest, like he did at every opportunity. She chuckled to herself. With that pancake he calls a woman, no wonder he loves my chest.
“Lunch break.”
Hack stood and stretched his arms and legs. “Someday I’m going to go into major cramping from that desk.”
“Then I’ll call 911. Come on. I’ve got something new I made.”
"Do you have the number for the poison control center handy?’
“Very funny.” She pulled out two small potpies.
“What’s in there, the body of your last boyfriend.” He chuckled at his own cleverness.
“If you don’t stop, I’m going to give yours to Baxter!”
At the mention of his name, Baxter jumped down from the sofa and padded over to Rory, bumping his splint rhythmically againstthe wooden floor. She pulled a treat out of a bag on the counter and fed it to him.
“He’s going to get fat if you give him a treat every time he begs. Not good training either.”
“God! Don’t you ever let go? Ever just do something because you want to or it feels good?”
“I can be spontaneous,” he sniffed.
She cracked up, doubling over. “Really? And hippos can fly.” She chucked the pot pies into the oven. "Does Miss Beanpole cook? No, probably not. After all she doesn’t eat, so why cook?”
“We order in.”
“Not everyone can afford to order in.”
Within five minutes the tempting aroma of beef and flaky crust filled the tiny apartment. Rory noticed Hack staring at the oven. Poor guy needs a home-cooked meal.
“Could use some help here. Don’t need to add a third degree burn to my broken arm.” Hack took the not-so-subtle hint, donned oven mitts and removed the pies. He placed them on a rack to cool. Rory poked a hole in her creation to let out the steam. She lifted a small portion on a fork and blew on it.
“Here, take a bite and tell me what you think.” She fed him the morsel then chewed her lip. Hack closed his eyes.      “So? What do you think?”
“I think you’re wasting your time writing when you could be a successful chef.”
