She took a deep breath to slow her pulse. Dancing with Gunther. A small tremor shot up her spine at the idea of his strong arms leading her around the dance floor. Would she get close enough to be pressed against his chest? Would his hot breath tickle her ear? Anticipation sent heat to her belly.
Emotion caught in her chest at the thought. He’s taken. Engaged. And too...too…out of my league. Still. For one night, I’ll be his princess.

His hair and scruff were perfect, as usual, but the black suit with narrow lapels hugging his hard body, and the white, silk shirt open at the neck, revealing some black chest hair, made her heart stop.The heat of his stare melted any last shred of resistance. She felt his gaze glide over her body like the caress of a warm hand. Her pulse kicked up, and heat pooled in places not used to much action of late.
“You look amazing,” he said.
“So do you.” She could hardly breathe. Her fingers itched to touch him. She wanted to feel his strong arms close around her, pulling her to him. She ached to feel his warm skin up against hers, to have him inside her. Squeezing her thighs together only made it worse. Oh God. Look at him. His tongue demanded entry. Shifting his weight to his elbows freed up his fingers to play with the ends of her hair. The heat of his skin on hers drove Erica wild. She ran her hands over his shoulders and down his to rest on his butt. His erection wedged between them was rock hard.

MY FAVORITE THINGS

Let's have fun for the beginning of a new year. Here are some of my favorite things.
ONE of my favorite covers this year: And one of my favorite, unplanned  stories.  Favorite foot-in-mouth by a hero. Gunther in LOVERS & LIARS.“We come here because I like it and it’s good for business. I’m seen here. You should pay more attention to that.” “I can be seen anywhere. I’m not an anonymous producer, like you. The public knows who I am. My face is famous. I’m seen everywhere I go. I don’t have to arrange publicity. It just comes to me…unlike you.”
He narrowed his eyes. “Is it your time of the month, Elsa?” She threw the water in her glass at him, drenching his face and hair.
Favorite funny lines: “I’ve prepared some questions to help me understand your needs, Mr….ah, Chaz.” “My needs? You don’t really mean needs, do you?” He chuckled while his gaze raked her body. “I mean your financial needs…ah, maybe goals is a better word.” “Ah, goals, yes. Goals works for me.” “If we can agree on three goals, then I’ll prepare sort of a proposal…” “Proposal? You’re going to propose to me? We’ve known each other such a short time!” He lifted his eyebrows in mock shock.From IF I LOVED YOU.  Favorite Picture: I've been waiting to share with you. Not sure who has the funniest expression!

Favorite supporting character: Bobby, the chauffeur, from Hollywood Hearts who appears in the first four books. This conversation takes place with Grace from MOVIE LOVERS.  “It’s private. I can’t talk about it,” she mumbled. “Did ya kill someone?” He shot her a glance in the rearview mirror. “No!” She chuckled. “Not that I wouldn’t like to.” “Got someone you want me to have rubbed out?” Her eyes widened. “You can do that?” “Nope, but I got your attention.” She burst out laughing. “Cara didn’t tell me I’d get a comedy routine on the trip.” “She forgot that? Geez. I’ll have to talk to her. Yeah, I always try out my new material on passengers. Captive audience,” he snickered. “You do?” “Gosh, they make ’em gullible in California. No. I just drive. Sometimes I provide a little guidance…a little wisdom. Always a sympathetic ear. But the comedy is spontaneous.” “I didn’t think I could laugh anymore.” She relaxed against the cushions and looked out the window. “Never lose your laugh. You look a lot like your sister.” “She’s the pretty one. I’m the studious one.” “Oh? You calling me a liar? If so, I’ll have to drive you right back to the airport.” Grace smiled. “I’m not calling you a liar, that’s just the way it’s always been.” “Don’t typecast yourself, honey. You’re a beautiful girl. Guys here are gonna flip when they meet you.” “Think so?” “Hey, I know great women when I see them. Don’t tell my wife.” He eased them onto the Long Island Expressway.
Another favorite picture

Favorite Reunion: How wonderful to revisit Callie, Mac, their family and the other folks who live in Willow Falls! I loved writing this book, taking another stroll through one of my favorite small towns.

Favorite location taken from my own life:  Fire Island in LOVE'S LAST CHANCE (and tie for favorite cover & other "things" taken from my own life.)

Another  favorite picture: just because...

Favorite Ballsy Kid:
It's a tie between Sarah, a girl with gumption, in MEMORIES OF LOVE and Jason, who ran away, in LOVE'S JOURNEY, NOW & FOREVER 5

...and then there's Junior, a charming baby, from RED CARPET ROMANCE.

Thank you for stopping by. Please leave a comment, I'd love to hear from you.

My version of TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS

This parody is meant in fun. I hope you take it in the spirit in which it's intended, and with apologies to Clement Moore...

TWAS THE NIGHT WHEN THE BIG GUY ARRIVED

‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the houseNot a creature was stirring, especially my spouse;
Dirty clothes were piled ‘round the house with care,
In hopes a housekeeper soon would be there;

The children were tucked all tight in their beds,
While visions of computer games danced in their heads;
And me in my babydolls, and hubs loaded with booze,
Had just bedded down for a long winter's snooze,

When out in the driveway there came such a howl,
I reached for my gun, my humor most foul.
Away to the closet I flew like a flash,
To grab and hide our huge pile of cash.

The moon shining down on a mound of fresh snow
Lit up the front lawn like a coat of day-glo,
When, what to my weary brown eyes should appear,
But a rusty old sleigh, and eight bloated reindeer,

With a chubby round driver, staggering and thick,
I feared in my heart it might be Ole Nick.
Faster than race cars these fat reindeer came,
And he whistled, and hollered, and cursed them by name;

"Now, DUMMY! now, ASSHAT! now, SCHMUCK-FACE and SEEDY!
On, IDIOT! on STUPID! on, DANDRUFF and GREEDY!
To the top of the roof! to the chimney, y’all!
Now fly away! run away! jump away all!"

As those leaves I didn’t rake, took off on the fly,
Formed a tornado so thick it blinded the eye,
Up to the rickety roof the huge reindeer flew,
With the sleigh full of crap, and drunk old man too.

And then, in a second, I heard on the roof
The stomping and footfall of each clumsy hoof.
As I hauled up my gun, and was loading a round,
Down the chimney the fat man came with a bound.

He was dressed all in red, from his neck to his foot,
In dirty old clothes, ripped and covered with soot;
A greasy bundle of junk he threw on the floor,
And he looked like a thief, a-looting once more.

His eyes -- how bloodshot! his eyebrows how funny!
His cheeks were all flushed, his nose, it was runny!
His leering mouth was drawn up in a grin,
And his stare on me reeked of original sin;

The stump of a stogie he held tight in his teeth,
As the foul smoke ringed me like Caesar’s famed wreath;
He had a broad face and an obscenely round gut,
When he turned, he showed me an enormous red butt.

Despite his appearance, he laughed and guffawed,
So I put down my gun, even Santa is flawed;
With a wink of his eye and a swift little wave,
I found myself happy, smiling, and brave;

In silence he worked, placing packages galore,
Filled all the stockings, hung a wreath on the door,
Placed a fifth on the table, and blowing his nose,
Grabbed the reins, and up the chimney he rose;

He stumbled into his sleigh, to his team gave a shout,
With a running leap, the deer were up and about.
Rubbing my eyes, I heard him curse ‘til he blew out of sight,
"MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL, DAMMIT, AND TO ALL A GOOD-NIGHT!"

TUESDAY TALES - WORD PROMPT "BELLS"

Welcome! Today I have an excerpt from my WIP, the second in the Manhattan Dinner Club series. It doesn't have a definite title yet. It's still early.  I hate it when he puts his gun on the front hall table. Bess moved toward the door when she heard the bell from the elevator ding. Terry, the handsome cop she was dating kissed her, then stepped inside. He removed his pistol and carefully placed it on the table.“Something smells good. Besides you, I mean.” He settled on the sofa. Bess retrieved a beer from the fridge and handed it to him. “Lamb stew. It’s chilly today. Good stew day.”
 “How did you know that’s my favorite?” His blue eyes lit up as he grinned. Pushing to his feet, he joined Bess in the spacious kitchen of her elegant, expensive Manhattan apartment.

She peeked at the stew, scooping up a little bit on a spoon. She blew on the morsel before feeding it to Terry. He lapped it  up like a little dog being spoiled by its master.
A bark from the floor grabbed Bess’s attention. Her tiny pug, Dumpling, sat attentively at her feet.
“Someone else wants a taste, too.” Bess spooned up another little bit of stew, blew on it furiously to cool it, then placed it in the dog’s dish. Terry chuckled, watching the small creature clean the sample up quickly.“Looks like her favorite, too.” He turned his attention to Bess. “Like to get a taste of this, too,” he said, wrapping his arms around Bess. The blonde turned toward him to accept his kiss. He held her to him.
“You’re cuddly,” he whispered.“So are you.” She closed her eyes, drinking in his scent mixed with a touch of lime aftershave, and  a little sweat after a day of work.  He’s all man.
“Can I have you for dessert?” He asked, raising his eyebrows and shooting her a lustful stare.
The blue-eyed blonde sensed the heat rising to her cheeks as she directed her gaze to the floor. “Could be arranged.”
“That’s my girl.”
“Am I? Am I your girl?”
“Of course you are.”“Then why do I only see you on Fridays?”
“I thought I explained. Saturday nights I go undercover.”
“Undercover or under the covers? And with who?”
“I can’t tell you that. Too dangerous.”
“Too dangerous for you or me?” She cocked an eyebrow and rested her hand on her ample hip.

TUESDAY TALES - WORD PROMPT "CHECK"

Welcome to Tuesday Tales. This week I have an excerpt from my WIP, HIS LEADING LADY.   Mark asked about their mother and Meg brought him up-to-date. Although Mark was their mother’s favorite, as he “had the looks and charm,” while Meg “had the brains”, she was the one who called their mom only once a month. Meg was in the same time zone.
Anna Davis no longer bothered to try to hide her preference, bragging about Mark’saccomplishments to her friends and Meg. Mark tried to change the subject when she gushed over him. Anna claimed it was the time difference that kept Mark from calling her weekly. The truth was that Anna relied heavily on Megan for advice and a sympathetic ear, and Mark for a check every month. The twins never discussed their division of responsibility. Meg wasted no time, firing pointed questions at her brother as he drove. “What’s the deal with this new chickie?” “My girlfriend?” ‘Now she’s your girlfriend? How long have you been seeing her?” “A couple of weeks. Yeah. She’s my girlfriend. She’s amazing, Squirt. You’re gonna like her.”
“We’ll see. She’s gorgeous, I’ll give you that. I watched her show.” “Yeah. Her looks, on a scale of ten, are, like, twelve.” “They can’t be twelve on a scale of ten, lug.” “Always the mathematician. I was making a point.” “Oh. Got it. Yep. So she’s pretty, what else?” Megan turned to face her brother. “She’s nice.”
"Nice? Damning with faint praise.”
“Real nice. Nice to me. And she can cook.” Mark kept his gaze on the road.
“She cooks? Now we’re getting someplace.” She rubbed her hands together.

TUESDAY TALES - WORD PROMPT "WAVY"

Welcome! Another week of Tuesday Tales brings another excerpt of HIS LEADING LADY.  Mark Davis gets a chance to play quarterback on his team, Nevada Gamblers. But the starting QB hates him and they have words. Caution - bad language.
HIS LEADING LADY He made eye contact with his friend, Harley Brennan, a wide receiver. Harley smiled a knowing smile and glanced at the stands. Mark called the play. When the ball was snapped, Mark’s total concentration was on the game. He dropped back. The line held long enough for him to fire a shot at Gam Leadbetter, who was about fifteen yards out, and not covered. Gam plucked the ball out of the air and ran for a few more yards before he was brought down.
Adrenaline surged through Mark’s veins. He was so focused he didn’t even hear the crowd cheering. When the huddle broke, he handed the ball off to Harley who ran for twelve more yards for another first down. Mark was pumped. Again they huddled. This time, one of their tackles slipped up and Wyoming’s middle linebacker broke through the line. He was enormous and charging straight for Mark.  Before he even blinked, his football instinct kicked in. Mark, faked right, then cut left, side-stepping the defender diving for him, and took off. Finding a hole in the defense, he ran for eleven yards, then slid in just before being tackled. The crowd went wild. Mark could do no wrong. Smart enough not to let his luck go to his head, he calmly broke the huddle and took the ball back for another throw. Again he landed abullet, this time in Harley’s arms. Touchdown! A warm feeling of satisfaction traveled through his veins. A peek at the stands confirmed that Penny, on her feet cheering, had seen it all. He removed his helmet and sank down on the bench.
“Don’t let a few lucky plays go to your head, Davis, you douche bag,” Darvin said.
“Luck had nothing to do with it.”
“Call me when you get to my level, in about ten years.”
“Go fuck yourself.”
A stern look from the coach silenced Mark. Darvin made a face behind the coach’s back. I’m not going to let this asshole take away my victory. Turning his head, Mark directed his gaze toward the stands. Penny was watching him. He lifted his hand in a brief wave and she smiled. Darvin turned to see who Mark was looking at.
“You fucking piece of shit! She’s mine.”
“In your dreams.” Mark said.

Holidays, Real and Fictional & Everyone Wins - Day 1

I have been asked why I put holidays into my books so often. I guess it's because holidays were happy times for me growing up. Holidays are pivotal times for my characters, drawing them closer together, whether it's a happy time or sharing sadness and loss.
SPECIAL BLOG POSTS I'm doing a special holiday blog series over the next few weeks. I'll post one real holiday memory of mine, along with a short holiday scene from one of my books.
Everyone wins! I'm giving away a pdf of CHAMPAGNE FOR CHRISTMAS to everyone who leaves a comment and an email address. I plan to have at least 7 posts. I hope you'll tag along. Here's the first. It's Thanksgiving.
REAL LIFE MEMORY      When my parents got older, doing Thanksgiving at their house in Rye became a burden. So we invited them to our small apartment. My mother always baked her fabulous pumpkin pies and brought them along in the trunk of the car. One year, we had snow for Thanksgiving. Not just a dusting, but a good four inches. I remember my anxiety as I watched out the window and the damn snow kept falling. I enjoyed Thanksgiving with my parents. They were always in a good mood and grateful to be invited to our house. I didn't want to do the holiday without them. They called about ten o'clock in the morning. I remember my father saying they couldn't come because they couldn't bring the pies, as driving was out of the question. I told him to come anyway. I could always replace a pumpkin pie, but could never replace him. He chuckled.      In the end, they did schlep the pies on the train and took a bus almost 40 blocks, each one shepherding a pie in a shopping bag. I remember being so surprised and impressed they were able to handle everything. If I ever wondered whether or not they valued coming to our house, I had my answer.
Not exactly your typical mother//daughter Thanksgiving moment from THE RENOVATED HEART.                           **** Snow still floated down from the heavens at eight in the morning on Thanksgiving Day, spreading a quieting blanket of white on the world. Kit awoke to find Tunney asleep with his arm around her. She stretched her legs and arms, feeling deliciously happy. He had declared his love for her, there was snow, and Zoe was here. Soon the great bird would be in the oven. She’d be elbow deep cooking her favorite meal.
She rolled over, snuggling up to him, pushing her breasts against his chest and winding her arms around his neck. He opened his eyes. A grin slowly took over his face, his mussed dark brown hair fell in his eyes. His hand squeezed her shoulder while he nuzzled her neck.
She raked her fingernails down his back, eliciting a moan from him. He rolled over on top of her, pushing the quilt down to his waist. She wrapped one leg around him. They shared a passionate kiss when the door burst open.
“It’s snowing outside!” Zoe announced, standing in the doorway, struck speechless by what she saw.
“Zoe!” Kit exclaimed, sitting up, covering herself with the quilt.
“I’m sorry. I’m sorry,” she said, backing out of the room, closing the door.
“Oh, God,” Kit groaned, falling back on the bed.  More on the book here                                                                        ****Don't forget to leave a comment with your email if you want a copy of Champagne for Christmas. Thanks so much for stopping by. Watch for a new post in a few days. My website
