Media Monday: TV Rewind — Grimm

This is a new show for me. I wanted to watch it when it first premiered, but for some reason I don’t remember now, I didn’t. I think another show I was well-involved with was on opposite. But, now, through the power of Netflix, I can watch all the episodes in a row whenever I want. Lately I’ve taken to watching while I’m sweating on a cardio machine at the gym. It’s good distraction, because I LOVE this show.

The basic premise is that the main character, Nick, is part of a long line of familia...

New Blog Schedule

So, I think I’ve got the blog scheduling thing worked out. As in, what features will be on what day. As of now, it looks like this:

Media Monday: TV Rewind, Movie stuff, cool new apps, and media nonsense.

Tuesday: God/Goddess of the Week

Wednesday : Geek Pick of the Week

Thursday: Ten Questions with… (Author Interviews)

Friday: Steampunk Spotlight

Weekends will be for random stuff, since I know nobody actually reads blogs on the weekends. Meanwhile, if you have requests for topics within this featu...

Dream Launch

I know it’s probably not right to dream about a launch party for a book that hasn’t yet been contracted. But since I went to this place earlier in the week with my family, it was hard not to. Smoke & Mirrors,my historical fantasy/steampunk/fairy tale retelling book that is, at this moment, being considered by several publishers, takes place in 1876 Philadelphia. It was a big year for Philly, being the 100th anniversary of, yanno, becoming a country. That year (and I use it in the book) was th...

Geek Pick of the Week: Tee Fury

I am still working out the kinks in this new blog format, so I haven’t settled on a day for Geek Pick of the Week. Last week it was Monday, and well, you see that today isn’t Monday.

My Geek Pick of the Week this week is a company I’ve bought stuff from well…probably more than my husband thinks I should. Tee Fury is a site that sells T-shirts for a great price. BUT there’s a catch. They only sell ONE design per day. Once that day is over, the design is GONE. So you have to decide right away if...

Pitcharama and the Art of (manuscript) Submission

Pitcharama was pretty fun. I enjoyed stalking my entry for 24 hours, following the Twitter hashtag, and rooting for my fellow Team Katie entrants. See, each member of the Aussie Owned and Read blog chose three each from the original entries to ‘sponsor’, I guess, in the contest. The editors came and I got three requests! One from Turquoise Morning Press, one from Escape Publishing (an Aussie imprint of Harlequin, if you can believe it), and one from Curiosity Quills. All small to smaller pre...

Pitcharama is here!

If you remember, I posted an entry for Pitcharama HERE, a week or so ago. Well, I made it through to theeditors round , whichis TODAY. And so far I have three requests.

Why did I enter? Well, I have a manuscript ready to publish. Duh. Second, I wanted to see what other publishers think of the manuscript, publishers I’ve not considered before. And pitch contests are fun. If you want to read mine, you have to get there TODAY, and click on the link to the right that says “Smoke & Mirrors”– YA. (o...

Movies I can’t wait for…

Summer, for me, started this week. And now I have 8 weeks of free time. Well, not free. I still need to write a book, and work on another book, and clean my house, and all the boring other adult stuff I’ve been putting off, like seeing the eye doctor. I love to read (duh), but I also LOVE movies. I have a deep and abiding affection for well-told stories on screen. I even like movies adapted from books, if they’re good. I have two racks of DVD’s (and now blu-ray; I caved for Hubby’s birthday a...

I agree wholeheartedly with all of these. Rejection slips ARE tickets to the game.

And you can’t win if you don’t play.

Geek Pick of the Week: Karen Hallion, Artist

copyright Karen Hallion

As part of my new found branding for the blog, I am going to try something called the Geek Pick of the Week. Here’s the first! I don’t know why I’ve never blogged about this before, because I am totally in LOVE with this artist’s work.

Meet Karen Hallion! She is the artist behind the illustration at the left, and she has a whole collection of Who/Fairy Tale mash-up art, so you can see why I am in deep love with this piece and the other pieces of this brilliant girl’s wor...
