Zombie Preparations and Other News

So the really exciting news is that I have the galleys back for Sins of the Lost already! Yeah, I know…that was fast. Of course, because my life tends to follow an it-never-rains-but-it-pours kind of pattern, this last crazy phase leading up to release has landed right in the middle of canning season. My proofread is due(...)

Fan Expo 2013 Highlights

So…Fan Expo Canada? Totally. Awesome. Seriously, I had such a good time that the only question running through my head all weekend was how did I not start going to these years ago?!? The people, the costumes, the displays…the sheer energy was simply astounding. People of all ages, shapes, sizes, colours, and religions, in costume and out, brought(...)

Fan Expo Day One

I’m sitting in a coffee shop across from my hotel as I write this, and already I’ve seen three costumed Fan Expo goers walk past on their way to breakfast. And not a single business-suit clad person has even reacted. Toronto’s Fan Expo? You’re awesome. I’m so excited to be here. Oh, we had a few setbacks in(...)

Slightly Frantic Update

Yesterday I finished a marathon session of copy editing on Sins of the Lost. Copy edits aren’t usually that intense, but because the manuscript went straight to that stage before coming back to me, there was some substantial tweaking to be done as well. Mostly because I’d been sooooo late getting the book written that it had(...)

SINS OF THE LOST Cover Reveal: Take 2!

After being pulled posthaste when it was discovered that another book had an almost identical cover, Sins of the Lost is back from the drawing board. This is the gorgeous result: I really can’t believe I’m saying this, but it’s true — I think I like the second version even better than the first! Penguin’s awesome art team(...)

Fergus the Wonder Owl

For those of you who asked to be kept up to date on my Rabbit Wars adventures in the garden, here’s how my predator owl solution has worked out. These are pics of the garden taken this past weekend: As you can see, my veggies are thriving…including the leafy green ones that had previously been targeted.(...)

The Devil Is In the Details (Along With the Angels)

This post first appeared at Smash Attack Reads back in January. When Ash, the blog host there, asked me to write about my world-building process, I wanted to provide a serious, thoughtful answer. And I tried. Really I did. Remember that as you read this, okay? Because the truth is, most of the world-building for(...)

Those Sexy, Sexy Angels

Over the past few years, I’ve often heard (or read) that angels are the new vampire in fiction. Whether or not this is true (die-hard vampire fans would disagree, I’m sure!), there is no mistaking the recent proliferation of angels on bookstore shelves and in e-readers. On Amazon alone, a recent search for ‘angels’ in(...)

Easy Come, Easy Go: Sins of the Lost Loses Its Cover

You may have noticed the sudden disappearance of the cover for Sins of the Lost from my website — and from Goodreads, Facebook, Twitter, and various other online locations. It turns out that another author has an almost identical cover for her book. The look-alike was spotted by one of my Twitter followers who very(...)
