Norn Publishing Makeover
I decided to give Norn Publishing a makeover just in time for spring. Let's rewind a bit. Apart from a link to Norn Publishing on this blog, I haven't tried to promote the Norn Publishing site at all. I always funnel people to Rymellan Fiction. The (old) content at Norn Publishing was mainly there as a placeholder, something I quickly threw together in case anyone happened to type the Norn Publishing URL into their browser. I didn't want them to see "under construction."
The Norn Publishing...

Lightning Source: POD for Profit
About an hour after I posted about the two work at home books, I found out that Aaron Shepard's latest book is available. POD for Profit: More on the NEW Business of Self Publishing, or How to Publish Your Books With Online Book Marketing and Print on Demand by Lightning Source is a must have for anyone who plans to use Lightning Source to publish their book.
I read a pre-release version that Aaron made available to members of several self-publishing groups, and I still ordered a copy...

Work at Home Books
There are two ways to work from home: telecommuting and as an independent contractor.
Many regular employees always work from home, or only go into the office on specific days of the week. They still have a boss; they still collect a paycheque. But they can do their jobs remotely from a home office. I'll call these folks telecommuters.
Others work for themselves. They take on as much or as little work as they desire. They can work on a single contract for months, accept only short-term gigs...

BookBuzzr Widget
The geek in me just has to post about this cool book presentation widget. Instead of explaining what it does, I'll let you try it out using the widget for my book. Full screen is an exact match to the print book! Head on over to BookBuzzr if you're interested in using the widget for your book(s).

Paid Surveys
I've mentioned before that I was laid off from my job in December and have been taking an extended break since then. I've been exploring options, including working from home. I thought I'd share some of what I've learned about working from home, including opportunities for making pocket money.
In fact, I'll start with a pocket money opportunity today, namely paid surveys. Yes, there are sites around the net that want to pay you for your opinion. But don't tell your boss to shove it just yet...

Read an E-Book Week

March 7-13, 2010 is Read an E-Book Week. Several eBook stores and authors will be offering eBooks at reduced prices (including free!). If you're looking to buy some eBooks, or want to try out new authors without spending a bundle, next week will be a good time to look around.
The Read an E-Book Week site has a list of participating stores and authors. You can also grab free PDF files from my site, Rymellan Fiction, if you want to check out a story. They aren't nicely formatted, though...

Rymellan Fiction: Besieged
I've just posted the latest story to Rymellan Fiction, called Besieged. It picks up where Shattered Lives left off. If you haven't been following along, I'd recommend that you start with The Dance.
Rymellan Fiction is two years old this month. I posted the first two stories in March 2008 and wondered whether anyone would be interested in reading about two lesbians who live in a strict society. The answer turned out to be yes, and here we are two years later.
To celebrate, I'm giving away two...

Oblivion Checklists
I have two games sitting on my desk, waiting for me to play: Bioshock 2 and Cryostasis. What am I playing? Oblivion. Yes, again.
I have a specific goal in mind this time. I want to clear every cave, ayleid ruin, mine, and fort, visit every campsite, landmark, and inn, and complete all the daedric quests. Despite putting hundreds of hours into the game, I still haven't visited every location or done every quest.
I'm using the Oblivion checklists at TESNexus to track my progress. There are...

Public Lending Right Commission and Access Copyright
On the CDN_POD group, we recently discussed two programs of interest to Canadian publishers and authors. If you're not Canadian, it's very likely that your country has equivalent programs.
Public Lending Right Commission (PLR): As the site says, it "distributes annual payments to Canadian authors for the presence of their books in Canadian public libraries." The program is free to join, so why not register? The process works on an annual cycle; there's a single window of opportunity each year ...

RPGs, Animals, XAMPP
I came to the blog to update the fantasy story meter and noticed that I haven't posted since last week. Well, things have been quiet lately, so why not mention a few interesting things I've come across that might interest you?
For RPG gamers: Check out RPGWatch. This is a great site that compiles RPG-related news from around the web. No more visiting multiple sites to find out what's happening with your favourite and most anticipated games. I like this one so much, I've added it to the...
