Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose…
And most times you choose between the two. Carole King.
We will be traveling and some family needs tending to. Pardon my absence but family is all. Will miss you! I’ll be back to blogging as soon as the seas are calm. Much love, Julia

Holy Cheese Plate, Batman!
What if you could eat as much cheese as you wanted to eat? How much could you actually eat?
As it turns out, not all that much.
A small selection of cheese.
We met our son in Sacramento at the 2014 ACS Judging and Competition Awards Celebrating the American Cheese Plate. There were over 1600 entries in this cheese tasting. Oh. My. Gawd. Two and a half hours spent tasting cheeses and nibbling on charcuterie.
Speaking of charcuterie – Cured meats isn’t my thing. At least it wasn’t my thing until I...

The Pelican Brief remains earthbound.
I like movies made from John Grisham’sbooks. I just don’t always like the protagonistsin his books.
I’m reading The Pelican Brief. I so want to like this book so much more than I do. Dang!
I read The Firm and The Client and a couple others and I liked them well enough although Ienjoyed the movies waaaaaaay more. I even enjoyedTom Cruise in The Firm and I’m not a huge Cruise fan.
But The Pelican Brief is bugging me. For one thing, Darby Shaw, our intrepid heroine, a second year law student, has n...

Jake goes to town.
Jake has four outfits. Five if you include his microchip.I’m so glad someone invented the microchip for dogs. I would have had them placed in my kids if they’d been available…
Jake has his work collar. This is a black nylon control collar. He knows this collar means business. When he’s wearing this collar he is to attend to us, heel, follow commands, do as we say. In other words, he’s expected to behave like a good mature German shepherd. Works 98% of the time. Occasionally he meets another do...

Dark chocolate afficionadoslook down upon us milk chocolate lovers, like we’re stupid or something. Like we think the earth is flat.

Milk Chocolate.
People will say, ah, but dark chocolate is so much more complex, so rich, so healthy and lower in fat. Well, I say, not really. In my experience dark chocol...
