You dance over me, while I am unaware.

Hosea 2:14 Therefore, behold, I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak tenderly to her. A friend showed me this verse last week, and I have been meditating on the beauty of these words.  Why?  Because they are just what my heart needs to hear, right now, and I love how [...]

Are there rules that should always be followed when you are writing?

Lately, I have seen lots of recommendations for what makes a great opening paragraph, what key things should you always have in your first chapter, what makes the perfect ending to your story, is your story speaking to your target audience, etc.  I have the greatest respect for these points and mean no disrespect in making reference to these suggestions.  I have no claim as an expert in the area of writing, and there are plenty of more experienced people out there to give comments.  I just...

Author Interview about Unspeakable Journey (Questions by Shannon G)

1: On your blog you said it took you 5 months to write this book? Did you have most of the ideas already in your head? Was it hard to get it on to paper?
It did only take me 5 months to write Unspeakable Journey.  I awoke one morning and the entire story idea played out in my mind.  I could not wait to start doing research for the book.  Once I felt that the story would work the way I had first imagined, I started writing.  I was still unsure about the end, and I had a couple of ideas on...

Does God use sinful people to accomplish his will?

I am struggling with writing a blog.  My publisher is suggesting it, and I just keep drawing a blank.  I guess I just keep wondering why people would want to know what I think or have to say.  I love to write, but I want my writing to have a purpose, not just entertain a few people.  So let me share some thoughts about the book and recent criticism about it.  This week one of the readers of Unspeakable Journey, my debut novel, emailed me, and he was very upset.  When it came down to it…I...

The dilemma

I am ready to start writing again.  I just have a huge dilemma.  Unspeakable Journey is not a book that my girls can read, and they really want to read it.  My solution is to write a children's chapter book just for them…and maybe others—if it gets published.  But, the story that won't leave my head, which haunts my dreams at night, and continues to try to write itself, is not the children's story.   It is also another story that my girls cannot read.  I have been fighting this for a while...

The story behind the book…

A lot of people ask me how I ever decided to write a book and why did a chose a setting like Saudi Arabia.  These are not simple questions with short answers.  I have always loved storytelling (oral or written) and maybe that contributes to the length of my answer, but the events around this book are so amazing that I always feel I need to give adequate explanation for people to really know the answer to their question.

For the past few years my husband and I have been talking about ways...
