Barbie Turned 60 on March 9

by Madelle Morgan

Prince William & Kate Middleton

Raise your hand if you owned a Barbie doll.

Keep your hand up if you dreamed about someday wearing fabulous outfits like Barbie's.

Barbie Dolls Were All About Romance

If you have your hand up, would I be wrong in suggesting you are a romantic at heart? Playing with Barbies was all about imagining a romantic fantasy life.

Did your preteen

The Twenties Roared !

By: Marcia King-Gamble

I thought about this one long and hard. If I had a choice of
time and place, where would I want to live?

Crazy as it may seem, I would choose this era, because of the
many opportunities that women fought for and finally achieved.

I don’t mean to come off as some strident woman’s libber.
Though I will proudly

WRITE AGAINST TYPE by Sarah Raplee

BLIND LONG-DISTANCE HIKER TREVOR THONASAND TENILLE, COLORADO TRAIL  2015

Want to make your characters well-rounded
and authentic? Write against ‘type.’

Oxford
Dictionaries
defines a stereotype as “A widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or
idea of a particular type of person or thing.”
The following examples of stereotypes apply
to different groups if people:

Mexican-Americans

Mayflower...

If I could choose to live a week in the past, I would want to live during the week that the Mayflower landed in the new world.

Going through my mother's files and papers, all her genealogy stuff, I discovered that my Uncle Linc had traced my father's side of the family back to England, and some of the family emigrated on the Mayflower.

What did the passengers feel when land was finally spotted,

If I could live for a week in any time period which one would that be? by Dora Bramden

I'm wearing a homemade Regency inspired dress.

Which time period would I live in if I could choose any? My first thoughts are that I’d like to live in one that has gorgeous clothes and chivalrous men, like in a Regency period novel.

But even though I’m a passionately committed romantic, I couldn’t suffer any period in time where women weren’t masters of their own lives. As much as I

If I Could Live in Any Time…

By Robin Weaver

Maybe
it’s cheating, but I’d want to live in perpetual yesterday.
Think about it. How cool would it be to have a re-do day? Every day?

I don’t
mean a Groundhog’s
Day scenario where you repeatedly experience the same twenty-four
hours. I mean a real do-over for every single day of my life—basically a 730-day
year, only the rest of the world would only know about 365 of

Just Call Me Oregon Paty by Paty Jager

An author friend who I critiqued with for years dubbed me Oregon Pat and put the character in one of her books. I think I would have made a good female outlaw turned good person. And I would have thrived in that time and place- old west, 1800s.

While I’m not a fan of housework, I do believe I would have
been just fine had I lived in the late 1800s or early 1900s.  It was a time when life was a

5 Things You Should Know About Sensitivity Readers by C. Morgan Kennedy

If you want to create more diverse worlds, move beyond
stereotypes to add depth to your characters, or just generally don’t want to
‘screw things up’ when it comes to diversity and inclusion you may want to
consider hiring a sensitivity reader.

Here are five things you need to know about sensitivity
readers:

It’s NOT just about racial diversity – Authors often associate the
need for a

Once Upon A...Never Again!

Hi, I’m Judith
Ashley, author of The Sacred Women’s Circle series, romantic women’s fiction
that honors pagan spiritual practices that nourish the soul. My stories show
you what life could be like if you had a place like The Circle where you are
unconditionally accepted, supported and loved. And where you do overcome obstacles
and find your happily-ever-after.
