Goodbye to a Great Actor
Some of you might remember me mentioning real life inspirations for some of my characters, others might not, but anyone who has read the Diversion series probably will not be surprised to learn:
Actor Brian Dennehy was my inspiration for Walter Smith, the Director of the Southeastern Narcotics Bureau's Department of Diversion Prevention and Control. And Bo and Lucky's Boss.
Tall, imposing when he wants to be, your favorite uncle when it suits the occasion, Mt. Walter is the glue that holds the department together. Rational, fair, wise, dependable. Everything that a mentor should be. Even in the early days when I first began the series, I had the actor's image firmly in mind.
This week I was sorry to learn that actor Brian Dennehy has passed from this world. My favortie movie of his is Foreign Affairs, with lovely actress Joanne Woodward, an opposites attract movie from 1993 that has a pretty decent message.
Time to get the popcorn and tissues and rewatch an old favorite.

Excerpt from Decision
I'm half excited, half terrified about tomorrow's release of Decision (Diversion 8). Fans have grown to love Bo and Lucky and I worry about letting them down.
That said, how about a little teaser? Some have asked about the thematic element of a rocking chair on the cover, and many have reached their own conclusions.
How about this?
Lucky strolled toward the back of the room, staring through a layer of protective glass. Two incubators sat side by side, the first one empty. A curtain partially obscured the view.
The second held a tiny infant, so much smaller than the other babies on display. A blue armband declared him a boy. He wasn’t wrapped like the others. Instead he wore a diaper and tiny knit hat, white sensor dots on his chest, warming under lights. A tuft of dark hair peeked out from under the hat.
Tiny fingers curled into fists. While Lucky watched, the baby’s lower lip quivered in a sucking motion. Head to the side, the dusky-skinned bundle slept. So quiet. So peaceful.
So alone.
From this angle, Lucky couldn’t read the nameplate. Instinct said he’d found the right kid.A door opened and a nurse swept through, followed by a dark-haired man in a hospital gown and mask. He sat in a rocking chair while the nurse freed the little one from his incubator.
Wires still attached, the woman placed the child in the man’s arms. Eyes crinkling at the corners showed the man’s smile.
She handed him a bottle. The man cradled the child in his arms, offering the bottle. Sleepy dark eyes blinked open, and the baby latched on to the nipple. The man fed the child, pushing the chair back and forth with his legs.
Who was this man? A hospital volunteer, maybe? This kid belonged to Yolanda, right?
Lucky watched for a while, heart clenching at the image. Would he one day hold his own child, rocking and holding a bottle?
At least the little boy wasn’t alone—for now.
He should leave. He’d accomplished what he set out to do: ensure the baby was okay. Somehow, he couldn’t make himself move.
Folks milled around him, coming and going, admiring this baby or that. Ever so gently the man removed the bottle from the child’s mouth. Again his lower lip quivered as though he still sucked, though he’d quite obviously fallen back asleep.
“Eat, sleep, and grow. That’s what babies do,”his mother once said while rocking Todd.
The man took a cloth from the nurse, placed it over his shoulder, and raised the baby. He gave a few pats, his eyes crinkling at the corners again.
The nurse held out her arms.
The man kissed the child’s forehead, slowly surrendering his precious bundle.
He stood and followed the nurse with his eyes as she returned the child to the incubator, placing his hand on the plexiglass in a silent goodbye.
For a single moment he looked up, long enough for Lucky to get a good look at the man’s eyes.
Holy shit!

Finally! Decision (Diversion 8)
I am thrilled to announce that Decision (Diversion 8) is currently on pre-order at Amazon. This was a hard book to write, dealing with some pretty tough topics. Lucky is Lucky, but Bo finds that, to do the right thing, he might have to bend a few rules. Although the story is told from Lucky's POV, Bo definitely grows a lot here, and our guys move one step closer to their HEA.

Happy Relaunch Day! AKA "I've got your possum shifters right here."
Several years ago I found myself in a car with other authors, going to an event. I recounted the story about how a possum moved into the walls of my house, and how I came up with a concept for a book about possum shifters.
Some shouted out ideas like, "Oh! When he sees a dog, he has to fall over", "he freezes when a car approaches", and other possum behavior.
The result is Naked Tails, about a man who doesn't know his destiny, and an old friend who helps guide him. Definitely a friends-to-lovers story.
The novel published a year later, but the contract has expired and the book rights returned to me. The story hasn't changed, I just brushed up a word here and there, and it has a new cover. In speaking of this book, I'm surprised at how many people tell me they've never heard of it.
So, if you missed it the first time, it's back! (In my head that sounded like The Terminator, just so you know.)
Seth McDaniel wasn’t raised among a shifter passel and has no idea what it’s like to turn furry once a month. An orphan, torn from his father’s family at an early age, he scarcely remembers Great-aunt Irene. Now her passing brings him back to Possum Kingdom, Georgia, to take up a legacy he doesn’t understand and reconnect with a friend he’s never forgotten.
As Irene’s second-in-command, Dustin Livingston has two choices: assume control of the passel or select another replacement. Unfortunately, the other candidates are either heartless or clueless. Dustin’s best hope to dodge the responsibility is to deliver a crash course in leadership to his childhood pal Seth, a man he hasn’t seen in twenty years. However, while Dustin's mind is set on his task, his heart is set on his old friend.
Seth’s quest for answers yields more questions instead. What’s with the tiny gray hairs littering his aunt’s house? Why do the townsfolk call each other “Jack” and “Jill”? Do Dustin’s attentions come with ulterior motives? And why is Seth suddenly craving crickets?

Why Can't You Find My Books?
Sorry that I've been quiet lately; lots has happened to keep me busy: work, recovering from holidays, book things.
Most of my work is published through Rocky Ridge Books, an imprint started by friends who built a co-op, trading work, but also retaining creative control of our novels. I didn't put all my eggs in one basket, and have published works with several publishers over the years. Several went out of business, so the rights to the works returned to me, and I republished through Rocky Ridge.
Four of my novels and one short story remained with Dreamspinner Press. I looked up one day and realized all contracts had expired, so I regained control, am brushing up the works, and will soon republish second editions through Rocky Ridge.
Until that time, you might not be able to find these following titles:

All of these will release again soon, so if you've been looking for them, keep a watch here and I'll post republish dates.
