The Battle Immortal!!!

I just finished the first draft of the manuscript for The Battle Immortal, the seventh and last book of The Silk & Steel Saga!!!! Still lots of work to do to get this book ready for publication, but for now, I am CELEBRATING!!!!!! Can't believe I finally wrote "The End!" to The Silk & Steel Saga! What a journey! I feel like I've run a marathon or climbed a mountain, a mixture of elation and exhaustion! Wow!

The Wonders of World Building

Great news! I just found out I've been accepted to teach my class on World Building at the Willamette Writers conference this August!!!! The WW conference is one of the most prestigious in the NW! Here's the description of the class! "World building is an art that sets fantasy, science fiction and historical fiction writers apart from all other genres. We long to create a world of wonder that will enchant and enthrall our readers, but how do we make these worlds believable, and how do we keep from drowning in the details? Explore the key elements of world building and gain tips for making these elements real in your writing. Learn a unique method to determine which elements will best enhance your story and showcase your characters." I'd love to see some of my readers at the conference!

Update on book 6 of The Silk & Steel Saga

It's official! Now that I've gotten feedback from my first readers, I can officially announce the The Silk & Steel Saga will have seven books in total! Seven was the lucky number for JKRowling and seven is what George Martin is aiming for, so perhaps seven will be equally lucky for me! So the 6th book of the saga will be The Prince Deceiver, scheduled to be published in Oct 2014 (or earlier!) and the final book, The Battle Immortal, will be published in Oct 2015. This will let me finish the saga the way the story should be told. Very excited about getting The Prince Deceiver to my readers!!!!

How many books in a saga?

When I first started writing The Silk & Steel Saga, I planned to write a trilogy. I'm the type of author who writes what I most love to read. My favorite books are big sweeping sagas with complex characters and complex plot twists set in a world full of wonder, books like Tolkien's Lord of the Rings, Frank Herbert's Dune, and George Martin's Game of Thrones. To me, as a long-time lover of fantasy, that initially meant writing a trilogy. But as I finished writing the second book, The Flame Priest, I realized there was no way the story could be told in a trilogy, so I set my sites on a five book saga. But while I was writing the 'last' book there was still too much story to be told. So I published The Knight Marshal and now it is a six book saga. I think I can finish the story in six books but I still have tons to write. If it gets too long then I will break this book in two as well, but that will finish it. I figure as long as I don't have a single boring chapter, it is okay to keep writing. And Erdhe is so big, with so many cool characters and so many interesting plot twists that I don't want to leave anything unwritten. So I hope you will agree with me that it is the quality of the story that matters, not the number of books in the saga. But I must say, I'm looking forward to typing 'The End'!
