HOPE TO SEE THE NEW ANTHOLOGY SOON!

Okay, I actually DID see this. My contributor copy arrived last week for Seasons Between Us: Tales of Identities and Memories. The story is called “Hope to See the Ghost Tonight,” a spooky little tale based on a childhood game I played as a kid when I lived in Montana.  And hooray! I’m on the cover.

All the stories are hopeful ones centering on the question “what is a good life?”  This project benefits Kids Help Phone and Mood Disorders Association.

RAIN MUSIC IS UP FOR PREORDER

At long last!

The book is set for a November release (for sure this time!), but it’s up early on the Fairwood Press website for preorder. It’ll be available in hardcover and trade paperback. The first 100 hardcovers sold through Fairwood will be signed and numbered by me. I’ll just sign hardcovers after those first 100. I’ll also sign trade paperbacks, and, for any book, if you want an inscription, that can also be arranged.

And now.

Look at that artwork. From my good friend Nikki Rossignol, a Montana artist, known for gorgeous watercolors. This piece was specially commissioned, and it was, in fact, painted with actual rainwater from Lake Quinault, where the novel takes place. That means total magic-infused goodness into every copy!

Check it all out. Consider preordering. Later, of course, it will be available at the usual online retail spots, and some specialty / independent bookstores.

WORLD FANTASY: HERE COMES THE JUDGE

It’s official now, but I’m one of five judges for this year’s World Fantasy Awards! I said yes, and boy does that pack a whale of a commitment. I’ll have 100s of book titles coming to me in the mail, as well as ebooks in email, starting now through May. This, on top of my own writing and putting (at this point) 6 books out from Fairwood Press.

The World Fantasy Awards are given at the World Fantasy Convention in the fall. This year that will be in Montreal, around Halloween weekend. It’s still uncertain if the convention will be in person or virtual. But we’ll have decided on the final ballot about mid-June.

Let the reading begin!

PLANTING SEEDS SOMEWHERE OUT NEAR EUROPA STATION

…and I’m back! (to back.)

A few weeks ago I was able to announce I sold a story to the anthology Gunfight on Europa Station,  a Space Western Anthology due out from Baen Books this fall, 2021.  I wrote a far-future take on the John Henry story when a widowed farmer has to outthink a crafty salesman and his revolutionary device.

No cover here yet, either, but again, I’ll update y’all when I’ve seen it. Some of you may know Baen has done a number of weird western anthologies set on Earth, including Straight Outta Tombstone. But this time all the stories explore the not-so-final frontier, and no stories would actually take place on Earth itself. Other writers you may know include Elizabeth Moon, Alan Dean Foster, Cat Rambo, Jane Lindskold, and Wil McCarthy.

STORY SALE FLASHBACK

Hello, everyone! Long time no hear from. And long time no see, considering the pandemic and lockdowns.

I forgot to mention a story sale to be published in summer 2020, and that was because due to Covid, the publication was postponed until THIS summer. The sale was to the anthology Seasons Between Us, edited by Lucas Law and Susan Forest. The anthology features 23 SF/F writers writing about the seasons of life and coping with journeys of growing older. “From the moment of birth, through each threshold of our lives, to the moment we take our last breath, we age. Some of us leap into a hopeful future, some cling to the knowns of our former selves, some wander obliviously through the minefields and poppies of change. Something is lost, something is gained in each season. Things forgotten, things remembered.”  [From the book description.]

UNFETTERED III IS OUT THERE

The third Unfettered anthology is a wonderful book chock full of fantasy stories by some fabulous writers. I’m honored to be among them. I mean hey…the tagline says: “New Tales by Masters of Fantasy.”  I’m lumped in there with some big fantasy names….and I’ll take it!

I was able to attend Emerald City Comic Con, where they had a special signing event for the anthology. Grim Oak Press had even done a limited edition of the anthology just for the con, with its truly nifty green cover, pictured below, along with the title page and start of my story.  We signed a lot of books that day!
