Farah the Feathered Orangutan
I wrote this for my new project called RANDOM REMIX…
==
They say that evolution works through random mutations. On this, or some less Darwinian variation, Farah stewed, looking out over her home country from the heights of the highest bluff, the landscape’s beauty lost on her melancholy eyes.
Her first feathers had appeared on the back sides of her strong triceps years ago, when she was but an adolescent ape. Carefully, she had combed her fur over them, hoping nobody would see.
By the time she’d reached adulthood, there wasn’t enough fur to hide them all. Spanning from wrist to shoulder, all the way down to her lower back, the feathers sprouted bountifully, unmissably, mercilessly. Everyone who saw her gaped in puzzlement at best, recoiled in disgust more commonly.
She couldn’t take it anymore.
“Fuck you guys,” she thought to herself, and jumped. The bluff was high, the fall was long, the air rushing through her fur was actually pretty exhilarating. And as the ground approached, she panicked.
Out of pure fear, and not a single sliver of intention, she flailed her limbs about. Before long, her flailing became flapping. And of course, just in the nick of time, her flapping became flight.
Farah flew away.
Far away..
