Annual Retreat with writing buddies
Every July I meet a group of writers (and soul sisters) up in Idaho to plot and plan our next books, and what fun we have! We laugh, and plot, and brainstorm, and eat, and walk, and laugh some more, all amidst five days of "close to Heaven" fellowship. I'm so grateful to have these extraordinary women in my life!

Dying to Self
As I was growing up, I carried a copy of this "poem" in my Bible. I still remember reading it for the first time, feeling convicted as I read it, and then cutting it out of a church newsletter to keep. Well, turn the clock forward just a few years...
The Spirit brought the reminder of this back to me last week while I was in Orlando, and––my childhood copy of the saying, worn as it had been,

Liz Curtis Higgs…a joy!
Thanks, Jones House Creative, for sharing this pic of me with Liz at the Christys Award Ceremony in Orlando last week. Who doesn't love Liz Curtis Higgs? Gracious, this woman is a hoot. And a blessing!
If you see this woman, hug her immediately! She's a gem!
Oh! Be sure and check out Lizzie's rap on the book of Ruth! Hysterical!

Glimpses from ICRS in Orlando
Hey friends,
Here are some quick glimpses of ICRS so
far. It's been a great week and a fun time with family and friends.
We attended the Christy dinner tonight which was a wonderful event. Congrats
to all the winners in all the different categories, and thanks
to all of you who rooted for A Lasting Impression. I'm thrilled
to have been a finalist this year!

Happenstance? Nah...
You know how some things happen and you think, "Oh my word…that's just what I needed!" Well, that happened for me recently. Yet I wouldn't call it happenstance…
Esta, my dad's sweet wife of almost a year now (and we're growing to love her more each day) and I were talking when I noticed a book on her shelf. I asked her about it and she said, "Oh, my sister gave that to me years ago.

Happy Independence Day!
Have you been to the Smithsonian in Washington and seen the original Old Glory that's preserved there? It's a moving experience, for sure. I love History.com and, in honor of today, here's a great video about Old Glory and the history behind our nation's flag…
Happy 4th of July, friends!
