The Synthia

My story, "The Synthia," is now in the hands of a well known Science Fiction magazine. I'm cautiously optimistic. It's been an awfully long time since I've had a byline.

Work in Progress

I haven't been terribly faithful to this blog, as you can see. I'll try to be a little more regular with my posts. Austin Kleon, in his book, Show Your Work, suggests creative people show the work in progress as well as the finished product. He compared it to watching the special features of a DVD, but while the movie was filming, not at the end. So, here goes . . . I'm working on a new story called "The Synthia." It's loosely based on Philip K. Dick's Do Android's Dream of Electric Sheep?, which you may know was the inspiration for the Ridley Scott/ Harrison Ford film Bladerunner. The book is as old as I am, though. I thought that our ideas about androids had become cliche, and those ideas had nothing to do with our experiences with computers and digital devices. So, I've updated the android story to reflect those experiences . . . Usually, when I finish a short story, I send it right off somewhere to try and get it published. Then, a few weeks later, I read it again and think, "I could have made this so much better!" This time, I'm hanging onto the story and continuing to revise it. I have a place picked out, and I will send it in soon. If/when it's picked up, I'll let you know . . . Thanks for reading, and please, leave comments! KJC

Greetings!

Hello! I'm KJ Cartmell, a S.F. Bay Area writer. In this forum, I am known as the author of "On A Christmas Eve," part of the anthology Down the Chimney. I also write for younger audiences, notably at harrypotterfanfiction.com, where my Liam Wren stories have a small but devoted following.

If you have read "On A Christmas Eve," I would appreciate hearing from you. Besides Diamond, I never heard from anyone who read it. I enjoy interacting with my fan base. Constructive criticism is valuable to me.

Watch this space, as I will be posting notes on what I'm currently writing and promoting.

Thanks for tuning in!
