Spotlight on Blaire Edens - Wild About Rachel #excerpt

Book Title: Wild About RachelAuthor: Blaire EdensRelease Date: September 22, 2014Publisher:  Entangled SelectGenre: Contemporary Romance (Select)Author EmailAuthor Website | Author Twitter | Author Facebook | Author GoodreadsBuy Link

Blurb Former debutante Rachel Hansworth longs for the days when “alligator” was followed by “pumps” or “handbag.” Broke, Rachel takes the only job she can find: removing nuisance animals from Florida homes. Unfortunately, fighting the attraction to her boss proves more difficult than wrestling a gator. Army veteran Mark Winters needs help with his business, but he wants Rachel more. He must honor a promise to his dying mother and find a fiancée. A real girlfriend isn’t part of the plan—he’s been there, done that. There’s only one problem: He can’t stop kissing Rachel.
She refuses to be duped by love again, and he won’t let a few hot make-out sessions tear down the walls he’s erected. But she’s all about the big bonus she’ll receive if she helps Mark. They’ll lower their defenses enough to trust each other when a wild animal is involved, but can they pull off the fake fiancée ruse and not be bitten by love?

Excerpt “Good thing I brought a change of clothes. I’m going to have to go into the water.”“What if he bites you?”He shrugged. “There’s no way around it.”He showed no fear. Just another day on the job. He was nothing like any man she’d ever known. They all tended toward button-down Ralph Lauren oxfords and penny loafers. Fraternities and beach houses. She’d always liked the preppie type. They were well-groomed, educated. Boring as hell, but they were familiar and comfortable and easy to introduce to her parents. She seriously doubted any of them would climb into a murky pool inhabited by a snapping turtle.Although after the last few months, she doubted her parents would be interested in meeting anyone she was dating. To say the relationship was strained was a huge understatement. She barely talked to them these days and when she did, she came away from the conversation feeling like the worst person in the world. Even though Pete had been in the wrong, they blamed her for bringing shame to their family. The men she’d known would simply pick up the phone and call Mark. He made them all look like overgrown boys. Flabby and vain and weak. Interesting observation.Mark shucked off his shirt, revealing a well-defined six-pack. For the first time in her life, she nearly swooned. None of the men she’d ever seen naked looked like that bare-chested. Matchbox cars compared to a Ferrari. His stuff was magazine quality. Whoa, Nelly. His arms were bronzed and toned, a beautiful tattoo of a German Shepherd taking up part of his right bicep. She wanted to ask about it, run her fingers along the raised edges, but then he tugged his belt loose and tossed it onto the ground. “Don’t want to ruin another belt.”Snapping turtle. Focus. His shorts, looser now, hugged his hips at just the right spot. His abs melted into his obliques in a perfect line. She fought the urge to run her index finger along that line, slowly, just to see how he would react. A shiver ran along her spine and her body shuddered.“Cold?” He asked. “I’ve got an extra sweatshirt in the truck.”Rachel shook her head. “Just a shiver.”Cold wasn’t the problem. Quite the opposite.“What’s making you shiver?”“Just a chill. I don’t know.”“You sure about that?”Focusing wasn’t any easier the second time.Mark unlaced his boots, took off his socks, and stuffed them inside. “Here I go.” He walked to the edge of the pool, where it sloped downward. “If he’s in the shallow end, I might be able to feel around and find him with my feet. I have no idea how I’ll find him in the deep end without diving equipment. It’s too murky.”“What if you used the end of the pole of the net to feel around the bottom?”“Way to use your head.” She shivered again. Trying to get her mind back on track wasn’t an easy thing to do while she was looking at Mark, half-naked and tanned.“You must have gotten some sun in the past three minutes. Your face is a little red,” he answered.
Author Bio: Blaire Edens lives in mountains of North Carolina on a farm that’s been in her family since 1790. When she’s not plotting, she’s busy knitting, running, or listening to the Blues. When Love Waits #Spotlight on Melanie Macek

I want to give Virginia a HUGE shout out and Thank You for letting me hang out on her blog today. I'm super excited to be here and to talk with all of her readers.

When Love Waits.

WLW final ebookRGB I still consider this book my baby. It took me 14 years to write and another two years to work up the courage to let anyone read, let alone attempt to publish. This is the second anniversary of the book and I've revamped the cover and made a few minor changes in the text. They were things I should have done to begin with, but I was a new author absolutely adamant about not changing my vision. Well, it's changed...slightly. So, what is this book all about?

Here's the short description.

Emma Alexander has been living in San Diego the past eight years building her career. She’s only been home once during that time.
When she rushes home to deal with a family tragedy, she discovers small towns have long memories. Circumstances force her to deal with the reason she stayed away so long. Now she must decide between the life she left behind and the one she’s secretly yearned for.
Jack McElroy has been in love with Emma since they met their freshman year of college. The last four years of living in San Francisco have been torturous for him, being away from her.
When her promotion moves her north, fear of ruining their friendship tempers his desire to show her how he truly feels. Will he be able to profess his love for her or will her ex-fiancé beat him to the punch?
Sound intriguing? (I hope it does!) Well, I'll include a little teaser section for you then. Can't have it said that I didn't leave the public wanting ;)

Excerpt:

Emma picked up an old book, set it back down and picked up another before answering. "To me, he might as well be family. Besides you, he's the best friend I've ever had. Kyle sure wouldn't have let me have a male best friend when we dated."
Cailyn laughed. “I can't blame him, especially if that friend looked like Jack. You know he's still got feelings for you."
"Kyle? Yeah, disdain. That much is obvious."
"No, Jack."
She almost dropped the book she held. "Jack? What are you talking about?"
She watched her friend walk away and down another aisle without answering. Following, she had to jog down the short space to catch up.
"What did you mean Jack still has feelings for me?"
Cailyn shook her head. "If you can't tell, I'm not going to point it out to you. Just watch him tomorrow when you're with him. I bet anything he spends half of the day finding ways to touch you."
"That's really nothing new. We hug and hold hands all the time."
"And you've never noticed anything out of the ordinary when you do?"
"No."
They walked back out into the winter daylight, squinting against the blinding sun. Cailyn waited until they were back in the car before saying anything.
"Just pay attention on your visit tomorrow."  I have to say, Emma and Jack are two of my favorite characters. I was lucky enough when writing the story to get in contact with a NFL player who gave the complete rundown of what a player does and is expected to do during the season. I have even more respect for those who dedicate their time to becoming a better player. I couldn't believe what the players endured during the week. It helped me give Jack a bit more depth.

Right now the books are available at the following retailers. iBooks and print versions will be available soon (if they're not by the time this post goes live).Barnes and Noble Kobo books Inktera Google Play Amazon

cropped-image-1161.jpg About the Author: Melanie Macek is a transplanted Californian desert rat living in Texas. She and her husband are owned by two Bombay cats - Murphy (Smurph) and Charlie (Midget). Luckily her husband shares her love of travel and they are slowly checking off destinations. Many vacations have turned into story ideas. Vacation ideas are welcome!

After trying her hand at poetry, song writing, and short stories, she started writing her first novel after the death of her mother. The urge to commit words to paper became undeniable, though life and work frequently put it on the back burner. It took 14 years to complete that first novel and another 4 to edit and fine tune it enough to release. Melanie currently writes contemporary romance but would love to eventually write historical romances. Her love of history does show up somewhat in her contemporary novels, so keep an eye out for tiny tidbits of trivia.

Q&A with Loralynne Summers! Spotlight on In Self Defense #NewRelease #Evernight

IN SELF DEFENSEby  Loralynne Summers
BLURB:
She fell in love—in self-defense…            The last thing that Sarah wants in her life is a relationship. Her track record was horrendous, and the last guy she’d dated had beaten her mentally and physically, landing her in the hospital. Almost a year later she’s back on her feet, thanks in no small part to her best friend Jason. Trouble is, lately she wants more than a friendship with Jason, and it scares the hell out of her. And then he kisses her…                                                           His offense may hit a brick wall…Jason has been in love with Sarah for longer than he’ll willingly admit to. Since bringing her home from the hospital, she’s grown into a strong, secure, confident woman. After seeing how perfect his best friend really is, he can’t get her off his mind. He’s convinced her feelings match his, and decides to go for it, only to scare her away.
Can best friends become something more? Or will she stay hidden behind her defensive wall?
INSPIRATION FOR THE STORY:The story opens to Sarah mowing the lawn on a hot, humid day. And that’s exactly what I was doing when the idea first took root in my brain. My neighbor across the street arrived home on his Harley, and BAM! The whole opening scene was there in my head. I couldn’t type fast enough. There is a large part of my relationship in this story. Jason has some of my husband’s mentality, mostly in how he treats Sarah. I often tell my husband that I don’t deserve him, he is way better to me than I am to him! As for Sarah, I too fell in love with my best friend after leaving an abusive relationship. Thankfully, mine never reached the level of physical abuse, but the signs were all there, and it was only a matter of time. As in the story though, I was quite afraid of my feelings for my husband, because of how close our friendship was and I was terrified to ruin it.

EXCERPT:“Why are you carrying me fifty feet?” Sarah asked.“Because I can. Because I’d be a jerk to make you stumble around on those shoes when you could fall and get hurt. But mostly because it’s my fault they’re broken in the first place.”“Jason, I’m the one who gave Alex a roundhouse kick to the head in these things.”“And you have no idea how proud I am of you for that. Doesn’t change the fact that I wasn’t there to protect you when he showed up, and I should have been.” She sighed, settling her head on his shoulder. “It’s okay,” she whispered. If he could beat the shit out of himself, he would. It had been eating away at him from the moment she’d thrown herself at him and wouldn’t let go. He wanted to kick the ass of every one of their friends, too. Most of them didn’t know who Alex was. But that knowledge didn’t stop him from wanting to knock their heads off for letting Sarah fight him. Hell, it was a good thing for Alex that Jason had been in the bathroom when it all went down. Otherwise, the police would have pulled him off Alex’s bloody, beaten corpse. He owed that asshole. Not just for the beating that had landed Sarah in the hospital, but also for the months it took to put her back together, physically and emotionally.“What’s the code for the alarm, Sarah?” He’d never asked her what it was after showing her how to change it. He wanted her to feel completely safe from everyone when she was in the house, including him. “Sarah?” He tilted his head back to look down at her. In the dark, he couldn’t see her blush, but assumed she had when she turned and buried her face into his chest before mumbling a reply. “I didn’t hear you, baby. Tell me again.”She cleared her throat and took a deep breath. “I said, it’s your birthday.”Christ, could he feel more like a dick? If he needed another clue about her feelings, he was a moron. It was a bit ironic, though.“Wanna know a secret? My alarm is set to yourbirthday. Kinda funny, huh?” He set her down to dig her keys out of his pocket. “You gonna let all the cold air out, or are you coming inside?” She stood where he’d left her on the porch. Shaking herself, she followed him into the house and he reset the alarm for occupancy, locking the door behind them. “You go ahead and shower. I’ll make popcorn, grab us some beers, and see what I can find to watch.” “Sure. Can you help me with the boots? My hands still feel all shaky.” “Yeah, of course. Here.” He fell to the floor in front of her, sitting on his heels and dying a little more inside. This was so not how he’d pictured the night going just a couple of hours ago. He wanted to be peeling these off because she wanted him to, not because she needed him to.She rested her hands on his shoulders and placed one foot on his thigh. He ran his hands along the supple leather, up and over her calf. He swallowed hard, tamping down his baser emotions. She didn’t need that kind of bullshit from him right now.Slowly, he pulled the zipper down and slid the boot from her. Lips parted slightly, her breathing grew shallow and rapid. Unable to stop himself, he massaged her foot for a moment before he gently lowered it to the floor. Eyes locked, he pulled her other leg forward and repeated the procedure. Her lids fluttered, a soft moan escaping her when he gently worked his hands up her legs, kneading both calves at the same time.“Jason…” she whispered, her hands sliding to the back of his neck.He rose to his knees, conscience be damned. There was no denying the hunger in her eyes, or the tension filling the room. She leaned into him, his hands continuing to massage their way up the backs of her legs until they held her ass firmly. Both breathing hard, they froze, a hair’s breadth separating their lips, hesitating to cross the final line that would end their friendship and start something new.

Q&A with Loralynne Summers
Q) How did you come up with the story?             I was mowing the lawn! It was a hot and humid day, and then my neighbor came home on his Harley, and suddenly the story was there in my head! I liked the idea of my hero being a bit unconventional. While a good guy at the core, he’s a biker and a bit rough around the edges.
Q) Do you have any writing habits?             I am a total pantser. I don’t plot, I learned quickly that if I tried to make the characters do what I thought should be done, the story sucked and wouldn’t flow. As soon as I gave my muse carte blanche, things went much more smoothly! So I do what I’m told now. Some stories I need complete silence to write, others I have to have music playing. And the music varies depending on the story, and sometimes even what part of the story I’m writing.
Q) How much real life do you put into or influences your books? I’ve noticed that in most of my heroes there is some part of my husband, be it mannerisms or other little quirks. In one story my hero is total freak about a specific car, which is all my husband. There’s a bit of myself in Sarah, and a big part of the start of the relationship between my husband and I in Sarah and Jason’s. I too fell in love with my best friend after leaving an abusive ex. My husband is very much responsible for the sense of self-worth and self-esteem that I now have today. He put me back together emotionally, just as Jason did for Sarah.

Q) Any upcoming projects?             I have a paranormal series of full-length novels that I’m working on, a fantasy of undetermined size that I currently view as my Dark Tower (by Stephen King) – I don’t think it will ever be done, but I keep plugging away at it in bits and pieces here and there, and the story currently screaming the loudest in my head is a contemporary ménage, likely novella length, that I hope to finish soon.
AUTHOR BIO:As a child, Loralynne was always the student getting in trouble for talking in class and at home for making things up. Combining her ability to go on and on and her flair for storytelling, she naturally grew up to be a writer. Originally planning to write fantasy, her muse had other plans. Once she opened herself up to the whims of her muse, she couldn’t type her first sex scene fast enough and now writes romance. Loralynne lives in Upstate New York with her husband, cats, and growing family. You can friend her on facebook or follow her on twitter under LL_Summers

The Birth of a Hero #GuestPost #Excerpt #ComingSoon from Wendi Zwaduk

I’d like to thank Virg for having me here today. I love hanging out with my dear friends and she’s one at the top. So, my latest release is titled Blue Satin and is set at Club Desire. Anything goes at Club Desire, as long as it’s legal. The Doms are hot and the scenes even hotter. When I sat down to write Blue Satin, I wasn’t sure what my hero/Dom would look like. I had his personality down, but the looks? I wasn’t sure. I’ve got to admit, I’m an X-Men junkie. I love watching the movies over and over. One of my favorites is X-Men: First Class. My favorite character is Professor X. Why? James McAvoy is freaking hot. I realized the more I plotted out Blue Satin and worked on the Dom, the more he resembled James McAvoy…physically. I’ve never met the guy (although that would be cool), so I have no idea if the personality is right and really, I don’t want it to be. James, the Dom in Blue Satin, is his own man. But  in my mind, he looks like James McAvoy. It wasn’t planned. Really, it wasn’t. I knew I wanted him to be dapper, but a little scruffy around the edges. He had to have an air of sophistication, but be approachable. When it’s time for business, he’s all in. I’d love to know who you imagine James, from Blue Satin, looking like. Let me know. :)

“Aren’t sure about the club?” He nodded to the front door. “You look like a scared rabbit.”“I’m uneasy,” she confessed. “I assume this is your first time.” The man strode up to her. He extended his hand. “My name is James Richards. I’ve been here on many occasions. You’ll be fine.”“I don’t know.” She wasn’t sure about the club, but the more he spoke, the more she longed to hear his accent. Was it a British accent? European? She wasn’t sure. “Why don’t we go inside? The receptionist will certainly answer any questions. She can even set up a tour so you’re not so worried.” He slipped her hand into his. “You’ll be safe.”Christ. She trembled. From his touch? Or the situation? “You sound so sure.”“And you don’t.” James nodded to the door. “They won’t hold you if you go into the foyer. There are benches. Why don’t we go in and talk? If you’re still not sure, you can leave whenever you choose.”She could debate her situation or at least visit the inside of the club.  Meg sighed. “Sure.”“Sure?” He tipped his head and grinned. “Is that a yes?”“It is.”“Wonderful.” James led her into the club. Unlike the stark concrete outside, the foyer had been decorated in rich burgundy on the walls and thick black carpeting on the floor. The benches featured a gold line of cording at the edges. When he gestured to one of the benches, she perched on the plush cushion. She glanced over at the receptionist window. Instead of a person behind the glass, she didn’t see anyone. “Who do you talk to?”“To get in?” James pointed to the main door. “Once you’re a member, you have a card. You swipe and come right in. There’s a sensor that alerts the security if someone tries to slip in.”“Oh.” James crossed the room to the window. A woman appeared. Her bright blue hair shone in the overhead light. She swiped her gaze over to Meg, then handed James an object. Neither of them spoke to Meg, bringing back a bit of her discomfort. After a moment, James turned on his heel and headed to where Meg sat. “This is the tablet to get you started.” He offered the electronic device. “If you want, I’ll help you.”“Thanks.” Meg turned the tablet around and swiped her index finger across the screen. “Okay…personal information. Didn’t I fill this in when I registered online?” She turned the device away from James and inputted the needed info. Why give him details when she barely knew him? She probably wouldn’t see him again once they went into the actual club. “I’m on the health history page.”“That’s important. They owners insist on keeping the place safe.” James leaned back in his seat and crossed his legs. He had such grace when he moved. Everything he did seemed planned out and meant to impress. She filled in the information, then swiped her finger to change the page. “Kinks,” she blurted. “Well, they do get right down to the point, don’t they?” She could’ve sworn she’d filled the information out online…“The owners do their best to pair you up with the dom who will best meet your needs. If you’re a dominant, then they’ll find a sub for you.” James smiled. “You seem to know a lot. Are you an owner?”“No,” he said. “What are your kinks? No one here will judge you.”She stared at the list. Spanking, bondage, pain play, anal sex, whipping, blood play and many more. She flexed her fingers. “I—Are you sure no one will judge?” What would the others say if they found out she liked exhibitionism and to be spanked?“They won’t. Promise.”“Okay.” She nodded and ticked off the boxes. Her hands shook as she inputted the rest of the information. On the last page, she added the reference number she’d been given from Annalise. A new page popped up. “Thank you. We’ll match you up with your preferred play partner soon,” she said, reading out loud. She turned her attention to James. “How long is soon?”“Won’t be more than ten minutes or so.” James stretched his arm across the back of the bench. “You still seem apprehensive. What kink are you worried about?”“You can tell, huh?” She clasped the tablet on her lap. “It’s that obvious?”“I’m observant and I was once in your shoes. This is rather overwhelming.” He waved his fingers. “A club where people have other people strap them down and such. My mind went in a thousand directions and none of them were correct. If I can help you, I will.”

Spotlight on Forsaken Realms #NewRelease from Katalina Leon

Forsaken Realms by  Katalina Leon
Blurb: On The Run, Bounty Hunters.  “Retrieval specialist” is a fancy term for high-level corporate bounty hunting and Agent Gemmina Nayar is the best in her league. She’s a sense-enhanced, level-seven bounty hunter from New Mumbai who receives an exclusive invitation to track a dangerous criminal on private property. She arrives on the tropical planetoid eager to hunt and release her inner tigress, but is disappointed to discover the bounty has already been captured.Syan is a Kironian, an off-limits alien race. He’s gorgeous, rugged and all male. Even sedated and forced to wear an electronic silence collar, he resembles a coppery skinned refugee from Mount Olympus. Gemmina’s unaware Kironian saliva is loaded with pheromones that can turn even the most indifferent woman into a willing mate. A single kiss or bite is sabotage. When the mission turns lethal, she realizes she’s not only been tricked into bringing the wrong man to justice, but the harsh jungle below is a calculated trap.
Excerpt:Gemmina faced the open bay doors of the complex. Shouts and several loud howls rang from within. The guard mumbled into the communicator. “What’s going on in there? Ms. Nayar is waiting to collect the retrieval.”A frantic response burst from the device. “He ripped the second silence collar off! We’re replacing it now.”The guard appeared visibly shaken. “The collar’s made of carbon compound. How did he do that? This is not good. Obviously, we can’t count on the collar. Don’t you have him sedated?”“The sedation burns through him. We’ve given him enough to knock a rhino down.”“Then try something stronger.” The guard scowled.A burst of static buzzed from the communicator. “Kironian physiognomy is tricky shit. This guy’s a puzzle. There’s something weird going on with his blood. He keeps adapting to whatever sedation we give him.”The guard glanced up. His eyes widened when he realized she had heard the conversation. “I have Ms. Nayar right beside me. I advise we use force cuffs on the subject, even if they violate intergalactic ethics protocols. They work. Treat the sedation as back up.”“Gotcha.”“Force cuffs?” A wave of disgust curled her lips. “Really? Are we living in the Dark Ages? Not that I feel a great deal of pity for a psychopath who nuked innocent people, but it looks bad on my side. The cuffs are notorious for causing nerve and tissue damage, and they’re considered cruel and unusual. I’ve never had to use them to get a retrieval under control.”“Once you’re out of Naveen’s orbit you’re free to do things your way, but I advise you to not let your guard down with this guy.”A shiver of apprehension gripped her. What the hell had she gotten herself into? Considering she had extensive experience with many humanoid species, she should have felt confident in her abilities. But she didn't know exactly what a Kironian was.“Listen, guys, even with access to a warp tunnel for part of the journey, Penal Colony X57 is eighty flight hours away. I cannot leave a man in force cuffs that long. Add to that the fact he’s Kironian and under political sequester and none of us are legally authorized to punish or even interact with this species. I see a perfect recipe for disaster. I don’t want to harm him and cause an intergalactic incident. What are we talking about here? How humanoid is a Kironian?”“Very human.” The guard was quick to answer. “But better—smarter, and stronger. Most are peace-loving except for this character, who seems to be something of a rogue. I’ll bet the Kironians will cheer when they discover we took him out of the equation.”Four guards wearing head-to-toe body armor and face shields, and carrying ionized bang sticks with the tips glowing hot, marched toward her, dragging a semi-conscious man between them. The captive was slumped forward with head hanging and a tousle of dark, wavy hair concealing his face. His splayed legs hung limp, and the toes of his heavy boots dug deep furrows into the beach. The current sedation seemed to be effective…”Bio: Katalina Leon
