Available Now: THE TIDE OF WAR

THE TIDE OF WAR is Now Available!!

Riptide Publishing * Amazon * Barnes & Noble * AllRomance

Lieutenant Commander Kyle West is one of Earth Fleet’s greatest fighter pilots. Every day, he leads his squadron into battle over Earth’s cities in a seemingly endless war against a vicious alien race, defending his home and his loved ones.
Millions of miles away, the Fleet’s Elite Squadron attacks from another angle, engaging the enemy on its home turf. Casualties are high, and the Squadron needs more of the Fleet’s very best. But joining the Elite is a death sentence—a surety Kyle isn’t willing to face. Until a devastating attack wipes out the family he refused to leave.
Commander Andrei Dezhnyov, an Elite Squadron gunner, isn’t sure what to make of the cocky new American pilot. Kyle is equally uncertain about the snarly Russian, but as they warm up to each other, their tentative alliance becomes a deep bond—one that endangers them both when a daring and disobedient rescue reveals secrets that call into question everything they’ve ever believed about their enemy. Secrets that their superiors would kill to protect.

New Releases from Lauren Gallagher and Kindle Alexander!

So it would seem that Kindle Alexander and I are release date buddies this week!

Their M/M contemporary, Secret, and my kinky bisexual menage, Kneel, Mr. President, are both available!

Secret is available here:
Amazon and Kobo

Kneel, Mr. President is available here:
Amazon * Samhain * AllRomance * Barnes & Noble

But what are they about??

Here's the blurb for Secret:

Tristan Wilder, self-made millionaire and devastatingly handsome CEO of Wilder-Nation is on the verge of a very lucrative buyout. With tough negotiations ahead, he's armed with his acquisition pitch, ready to launch the deal of a lifetime. There’s just one glitch. The last thing he expects is to fall for the hot business owner he's trying to sway.
Dylan Reeves, computer science engineer and founder of the very successful social media site, Secret, is faced with a life-altering decision. A devoted family man with three kids and a wife, Dylan has been living a secret for years. Fiercely loyal to his convictions, his boundaries blur after meeting the striking owner of the corporation interested in acquiring his company. For the first time in his life, reckless desire consumes him when the gorgeous computer mogul makes an offer he can't refuse.

And here's the blurb for Kneel, Mr. President:

Sworn to have their lover’s back, front, or any other side that needs covering.
Secret Service agent Kent Sinclair, head of POTUS security, thought himself prepared for every contingency. Until the First Lady—a woman who barely tolerates his presence—approaches him with a request that startles the hell out of him.
Carlene Broderick is frightened. With the weight of the country and impending war on his shoulders, her husband, James, is buckling under the strain. The key to helping him cope is the name he calls out in his sleep—and it’s not hers. It belongs to his fellow ex-SEAL team buddy. His ex-lover. Kent.
Without hesitation, Kent plunges into treacherous emotional territory, only to realize it’s not really him that James needs. The Commander in Chief needs to give up complete control in the bedroom.
To relieve that much pressure, Kent and Carlene must work together and declare a truce that rapidly heats up into something more. Something that leaves James caught deep in forbidden territory—torn between his beloved wife and the man he’s never stopped loving.
Warning: Contains three forty-somethings discovering whole new sides of themselves, a rejuvenated marriage, and plenty of kinky fun. All brought to you by an ex-SEAL in a wetsuit, a bisexual President, and a First Lady with a tattoo on her ass.

Check 'em out, y'all!

Something Cliqued at RT...and it's a good thing.

No, that's not a typo, just a really bad pun.

So I just returned from RT. You all need to go, especially if you've never been (and if you've never been, I might be paying your way!), because it's an amazing con. I wouldn't fly across an ocean for it if it wasn't.

Over the course of the week, while sitting with some friends (likely during a game of Cards Against Humanity), something occurred to me that I wanted to share here. Many conventions and conferences have been described as "cliquey." Authors who've never attended are unsure about going because they've heard about the cliques. Specifically, that everyone seems to join these little groups and stick close to them for the duration of the con. And that definitely concerned me the first time I went to RT -- here's this giant con, and I had met precisely one person who would be attending. Everyone already had their cliques and groups, so was I going to spend the whole thing alone?

No, I wasn't. Why? Because those little groups everyone talks about -- they're real. And they're necessary. You've got 2,000+ people (a great many of them introverts) shoved into one building and expected to be "on" for a large portion of the time. This seems to trigger our herd instinct. We band together, sometimes for company, sometimes because the only way to deal with being overwhelmed is to have someone there who can distract you from the chaos or drag you outside when it's obviously too much. The best way for many of us to deal with giant groups is apparently to find a smaller group. Break the herd into smaller herds, and suddenly we can all breathe a little easier.

The result is the convention being broken down into little clusters of people. They sometimes get bigger throughout the week, too -- you can tell by the growing number of tables that suddenly have three, four, five extra chairs pulled up so everyone can sit together. People band together with their own tribes, and those tribes can be anything -- people who read/write the same genre, people who've met on a forum, fellow authors at a publisher or with a particular agent....even people who came to the hotel on the same airport shuttle. Anything goes. The minute you've got something in common with someone at a con like RT, you've got a tribe.

But we all know how cliques work in high school, right? They're exclusive. They're full of mean girls. They look down their noses at others.  And I'm sure there are some like that at cons because, well, people are people.

For the most part, though, the "cliques" at places like RT aren't like that. My observation over the last four RTs (and several other cons) is that the secret password to join virtually any group is either "Is anyone sitting here?" or "Is it okay if I join you?"  By and large, people are friendly and warm.

And besides, EVERYONE at RT knows what it's like to be at their first RT. We all know what it's like to get there and realize just how big this thing really is. (hehe, that's what she--*cough* Sorry)  Everyone's been there, done that, and sooner or later, one group or another will pull you in with their tractor beam, and you'll be part of them so fast you'll wonder if you ever weren't a part of it. Seriously. If I did a poll of everyone at RT, and asked them to tell me where they met everyone in their con tribe, I would bet money that everyone would have at least one person they met at a previous RT, and quite likely one they met at the current one.  A good many of them probably couldn't imagine RT *without* those people. They've all assimilated. Because resistance is futile and stuff. So I guess I could've just shortened this whole post by saying RT is like the Borg, etc etc etc.

Anyway.

If you have a hard time approaching or interacting with people you don't know in person, do some pre-gaming -- find people on social media or forums who are going, and approach them online. Chances are, you'll have a bunch of folks looking forward to meeting you before your plane even touches down.

Also, if you do find yourself knee-deep in a tribe at a con, and you get overwhelmed, it is okay to bow out and take a breather. Trust me -- there are very, very few people at conventions who don't disappear to their room at least once just to catch their breath and decompress. (Guess where I am for a solid hour after every book signing) It's okay to spend time alone. Everyone does it, and everyone will understand if you need to do it (if they don't understand, and they give you a hard time for needing to be by yourself for a bit, tell them L.A. Witt said they're a butthead because that's exactly what they are).

So if you're attending or getting ready to attend a con, and you're concerned that everyone will break off into little groups, you're right. If you're worried that you won't be able to find a tribe that will accept you, trust me -- you will.  Maybe it'll be a small group who prefers the quiet coffee shop to the deafening bar. Maybe it'll be authors from your publisher or people with the same agent. Maybe it'll be people with whom you have nothing in common except a love of silly T-shirts and snark (ask me how I know).

But for every person who attends a con like RT, there is a tribe. And if you really struggle with finding that tribe -- or even if you don't -- there is always a group playing Cards Against Humanity and eating pizza in the lobby on Saturday night. You don't even need to know the password -- it's okay if you join us.

Now Available: WIRELESS (2nd edition)

My dystopian erotic science fiction novel, Wireless, has been re-released! This version has been extensively rewritten and expanded from the first version, with no small thanks to Aleksandr Voinov for helping me gut it and rework it.

Wireless is available on Amazon and Kindle Unlimited.

Skin to skin contact is illegal. Sex? A felony. Insulated suits and gloves keep people from even the most platonic touches. Citizens line up in droves at simhouses for their rationed, prescribed orgasms in virtual reality machines.

Keith Borden has worked in a simhouse for years, and he's never been tempted to break the strict no-contact laws… until Aiden Maxwell comes along. The attractive and dangerously flirtatious patient invites him into the seedy underground where people engage in real, wireless sex. Though Keith stands to lose his career and his freedom, he's curious and Aiden is irresistible.

From the moment he sets foot in the wireless lounge, Keith is in a world of flesh and fantasy. He's hooked. On the sex, on the atmosphere, and most of all, on Aiden. Years of keeping everyone in his world at arm's length have left Keith craving a human touch, and Aiden offers all the contact—scorching sex, gentle affection, and everything in between—Keith can handle.

That is, until an unexpected act of betrayal throws Keith's world into chaos, and he finds himself more alone than he ever imagined possible…

March 20, 2015

Author, I'm Taking You to Your First RT.

The RT Booklovers Convention is coming up fast, and recently, I started thinking about the last few times I've been. Specifically, the first time, and how daunting it was.  I'd been published for a couple of years at that point, but I'd only recently returned to the States (I started my career overseas). RT 2012 in Chicago was my first ever face-to-face gathering. And it was amazing. And huge. And...yeah. Huge.

Let's face it -- RT is awesome, but it's also expensive and kind of intimidating. In 2012, I distinctly remember being overwhelmed by everything. I remember looking at the swag that everyone else had, and the posters people had up in the various thoroughfares, and wondering how in the world I'd ever be able to swing that and get my carcass to the convention in the first place.  And yet at the same time, I coveted the exposure that came with those posters and swag.

The thing is, the authors who stand to benefit the most from a convention like this often struggle to justify the expense. The very people who need to increase their sales and exposure the most are the ones who generally struggle to pay for it because they need those increased sales to fund the means for increasing those sales. It's a frustrating paradox!  The really awesome swag is expensive. The most visible and eye-catching advertisements and posters are expensive. Just being there is expensive.

But attending a conference like this is valuable, especially to new authors. You network, making connections with other authors, new readers, editors, agents, and the weirdos like me who hang out in the bar playing Cards Against Humanity. You see what other people are doing for their swag, their costumes, their advertisements, and you gain all kinds of knowledge and insight from panels and workshops. Just sitting in a restaurant can be incredibly valuable -- hearing what readers want, listening to other authors talk about their processes, having a one-on-one conversation with an editor or an agent.

Blah, blah, blah....get to the point, Lori.

Okay. The point is that my first, second, and third RTs were tremendously beneficial to me as an author, and to my career. There's a reason I'm flying all the way to Dallas from Spain this year -- RT is worth it!

So in 2016, I want to pay it forward.  I'm going to make one first-time attendee's experience easier, and help two more get themselves noticed.

In order to qualify, you must:

...have never attended a previous RT....have at least one book published and available for purchase in the United States by April 1,  2016. ...provide your own means of getting to Las Vegas for the convention. To win, you must: ...provide an essay in which you explain why you want to attend RT, what you hope to get out of the convention, and your short and long term goals for your career as an author.
From the essays, I will select a group of finalists, and with the help of a group of published authors, determine a winner and two runners up. The number of finalists and the size of the panel will be determined based on the number of qualifying entries.

The two runners up will each receive $150 toward swag or advertising.

And for the winner, I will pay for the following:

Your conference registration as a published author (approximately $500).Your hotel room for the duration of RT (April 12-17, 2016 - 5 nights) at the conference hotel.$250 toward custom, professionally produced swag.$250 toward an advertisement of your choice. One celebratory drink at the bar.
In addition to financial assistance, I will provide a guest spot on my blog for a follow-up post about your experiences at RT. Also, one-on-one guidance at the convention. This means help with pitches, going over the agenda to decide which panels and workshops will be most helpful for your goals, helping you set up and prepare for the book signing, generally navigating the conference, etc. This part is entirely optional, but is there if you need it.

To Enter:

Send your essay as a Word attachment, along with all professional social media links, and links to your book(s) to this e-mail address with "Send me to RT!" in the subject line.

All entries must be received by August 1, 2015
Good luck, and I hope to see you in Las Vegas!

All the nitty gritty mumbo jumbo restrictions: PLEASE READ! Submitting your entry means agreeing to all terms laid out in this blog post.

Questions: Comment on this blog post, or e-mail me.Hotel coverage: I cannot control the availability of hotel rooms. In the past, the RT hotel has booked up quickly. It will be your responsibility to book your room at the convention hotel or overflow hotel. My guarantee is to cover a room of equal or lesser value of a room with one queen bed at the convention rate. Upgrades, room service, additional roommates, extra days, incidentals/damage, etc., are your responsibility.Guidance for panels, etc: I will do my best to be available whenever needed between breakfast and dinner on each day of the conference. If I am unable to attend the conference due to illness or other circumstances, I will make a good faith effort to connect you with someone who can help you in my place.Advertisements/Swag: You will need to provide graphics such as cover art, but I will assist in connecting you with designers and such, and pay for up to $250. "Swag" refers to items such as bookmarks, postcards, buttons, keychains, or the like, to be given out at the convention. "Advertisements" refer to ads in the RT program or posters and the like at the convention.Publication requirement: Self-published titles and ebooks are allowed. Vanity publishers are not. If you aren't sure if your publisher qualifies, please feel free to ask.Cancellation: If you are unable to attend, please contact me as soon as possible so that arrangements can be made for another author to go in your place.Celebratory drink at the bar: Obviously you must be 21 or older. And no $1,500 glass of 7,000 year-old cognac garnished with gold flecks and the tears of angels.  A reasonably priced drink, y'all. All financial assistance will be paid directly to vendors (RT, the hotel, graphic designers, etc.). February 23, 2015

I'm back, y'all!

As I mentioned a few months ago, I had to go dark for a while on my blog while I dealt with the joy and fun of moving from Nebraska to Spain. Relocating from that godforsaken place to Spain is awesome. That actual logistics? Holy Ned. Talk about a royal pain.

In the interim, though, I was able to spend a few months with my family in Seattle, as well as enjoy a visit from Aleksandr Voinov, who had never been to Seattle. We even took a trip out to Bluewater Bay (or where it would be if it existed), and we plotted and schemed some new books for 2015 and beyond. As you do.

Finally, though, after a few months, a few thousand miles, a lot of headaches, a road trip, and three plane rides... I'm here!  And I'm working again! The cats made it safely, my husband found us a lovely house in Sanlucar de Barrameda, and we have the most hilariously stupid beater car, with which we're slowly beginning to explore Spain.

Behold, the hoopty ride, the hubby, and the house:

This is the house as viewed from the backyard:

Yep, it's got a pool. Tubby is intrigued.

Midget finds the pool suspicious, but she's loving the sunshine.

In between taking their spoiled little highnesses outside (seriously, they want out, like, every five seconds), I am of course writing again. I was writing during the move, but maintaining a regular schedule was practically impossible. Now, I'm back in my groove and back on schedule.

Though I'm definitely back to work, I'm trying to curtail my workaholic habits, since those resulted in the burnout that led to my immune system collapsing last summer. Fortunately, I'm in a great place to balance work and play, since there is SO MUCH TO SEE here. Naturally, I must take time off at regular intervals, right?

Because I'm surrounded by  things like monasteries....
....and abandoned sugar factories that have been taken over by nesting storks.

We're planning to visit Gibraltar and Sevilla soon, and we'll be taking a short trip to Madrid right before RT in May. So, expect a lot of pictures, though most of them will be on my personal blog, which will finally be active again.

But yes, as I said, I'm back to work. So what's coming up in the next few months?

Because of my slowdown in late 2014 (moving + the lung demon), there won't be quite as many books out in the first half of 2015. Rest assured, there are more coming.

L.A. Witt will be fairly quiet for a few months, aside from re-releasing Wireless this spring.  Never fear -- there is a ton in the works! Aleksandr Voinov and I are both hard at work on additional Dark Soul books -- he's writing Franco's story while I'm finishing up the sequel to Dark Soul. Aleks and I are also working on the next Market Garden book -- Rolex's story, of course! -- as well as the World War II historical that we so need to finish and a sequel to Hostile Ground.

On my own, I've also got another erotic Mafia book in the works, which I plan to release toward the end of summer. This fall, look for an erotic menage, What He Left Behind, coming from Samhain, and a not-yet-titled Bluewater Bay story from Riptide Publishing. Will there be others? Quite possibly.

Lauren Gallagher will actually have some releases this year. In April, The Saint's Wife, a hetero contemporary romance, will be available from Samhain Publishing, followed in July by Kneel, Mr. President, a kinky bisexual menage, also from Samhain. Expect two more releases from Lauren before the end of 2015, plus a re-release of an older title.

And my two three new pen names will have releases this year!  Lori A. Witt's space opera, The Tide of War , comes out in June, followed by Ann Gallagher's gay Christian romance, Lead Me Not, in August, both from Riptide Publishing. My first horror novel, And All That You Hold Dear, should be out right around Halloween under the name Diana Fyre.

 http://www.gallagherwitt.com/?p=4693
So yeah, it's gonna be a little light in the release department for a short while, but I'm catching up!

Now, back to work.

As soon as I let the little monsters outside

Again.

November 25, 2014

And on the 57,428th day, Rolex got a name.

Remember that time Aleksandr Voinov and I had this contest to name Rolex from Market Garden, but then real life decided to be a bastard and bring everything to a grinding halt for like six months? And then we kept everyone waiting forever for the results of that contest because OMG we just could not catch a break in 2014?

Yeah, me too.

First of all, thank you to everyone for your patience. 2014 was quite a roller coaster for both of us, and it really put a dent in productivity, concentration, etc. We haven't even co-written since July (up until today), so...yeah. Which meant dragging this contest out for MONTHS.  Sorry about that! :(

But blah blah blah, that's not why y'all are here. You want to know Rolex's name, right?

Well, wait no more.

Rolex has a name.

Yep, we finally found a first name.

And then we paired it with a surname.

And when we put them together, they worked pretty darn well.

So we said, "Yes, that is Rolex's name."

You ready for it?

You ready to find out what Rolex will be called?

OMG A hedgehog with a dinosaur! How adorable is that?

Right?

RIGHT? Just LOOK at how adorable it is!

Here it is again in case you missed it...

See? It's so--

OKAY OKAY I won't tease you anymore.

Rolex's name is:

Blake Raleigh.
Which also means that our contest winners are Kristie Sanchez and Antonia. If both of y'all could e-mail me at gallagherwitt (at) gmail, I'll get some prizes out to you.

So thank you again to everyone for your patience, and we really apologize for the huuuuge delay in wrapping up this contest. Rest assured that Rolex's story is in progress as we speak. Watch this blog and our Twitter feeds for release info.

NOW AVAILABLE: Starstruck and Precious Metals

Now that I'm more or less settled into Seattle, I can actually catch up a bit! I had one book out last week, and one comes out today.

First up, today's release: the first book in the new multi-author Bluewater Bay series, STARSTRUCKavailable from Riptide Publishing. Available on AmazonAllRomance, and Barnes & Noble.

Hollywood is full of dirty secrets, but Carter refuses to be Levi’s.Retired action star Levi Pritchard has made a quiet life for himself in the sleepy logging town of Bluewater Bay, Washington. But then Hollywood comes to film the wildly popular television series Wolf’s Landing, and Bluewater Bay isn’t so sleepy anymore. His retirement doesn’t stick, either, because he’s offered a part on the show—exactly the kind of complex role he’d always wanted, one that would prove him more than a glorified stuntman. The only catch? He has to stay in the closet—no matter how attractive he finds his co-star.Carter Samuels is the critically-acclaimed male lead on Wolf’s Landing. And now, the man who inspired him to take up acting—and made him realize he’s gay—is joining the cast, and sparks fly between them instantly. But Carter is out and proud and determined to stay true to himself.Remaining just friends is the only thing to do, as both the studio and Levi’s disapproving, dysfunctional family remind them daily. Except their friendship deepens by the day, tempting them with what they can’t have but both desperately need.
And last week's release, also from Riptide Publishing, is  PRECIOUS METALS , a steampunk story set in the Klondike Gold Rush like  Noble Metals . It's available on AmazonBarnes & Noble, and AllRomance.

For Constable Paul Benson of the North-West Mounted Police, monotony is a blessing. As a provision inspector below the Chilkoot Pass during the Klondike Gold Rush, he’s seen miserable conditions and gold fever turn civilized prospectors into madmen.Joseph Starling is on his way to the Klondike to find the men who savagely beat him, murdered his eldest brother, and stole their mining machine. They’ll kill his youngest brother if Joseph doesn’t operate the machine for them—it won’t work without him. With time running out, Joseph must purchase an expensive ticket aboard a crash-prone airship.
