My reviews

Just a note about my reviews/ratings (since someone just asked me!): I read. A LOT. Like, several books a week. I wish I could write lovely, thoughtful reviews, but I'm a *terrible* review writer. It's simply a skill I don't possess, though I greatly admire and appreciate those who do!

You'll probably notice that most of the books I have on my shelf have 5-star ratings. That's because I (mostly) only rate books that I've enjoyed. So, five stars basically means that I liked it/recommend it.

Occasionally, I post little comments (which is where you'll see if I particularly *adored* a book and go all fan-girly on it) in the review section, but that's about it.

Anyway, in a nutshell: It's not that I simply love every book that I read, it's just that I don't rate a book I didn't enjoy. Five stars is my default rating for "this was an enjoyable read for me!"

Upcoming Appearances!

Hi, everyone! Hope you're all having a wonderful summer! I spent two months down in south Florida teaching some writing workshops--so much fun! Back at home now, working hard to finish up the second book in the Winterhaven series (which is coming out Summer 2012).

Just wanted to give everyone a heads-up on some upcoming Fall appearances that are in the works. Looks like I'll be heading to upstate New York in late October, New Jersey in mid November, and Philadelphia in late November. Hope to see some of you there!

Till then, happy reading!

:o) Kristi

Aidan's Playlist

If you’ve had a chance to read HAVEN yet, you might be wondering about that iPod that Violet gave Aidan for Christmas–what songs would be on his “favorites” playlist? What kind of music would a guy like Aidan like to listen to?

So….I give you AIDAN GRAY’S OFFICIAL PLAYLIST! Or, “music to read HAVEN by.” Something like that! Some songs on his playlist have real meaning for him (for example, “October” by Broken Bells–Aidan’s birthday is in October, and it’s also the month that he first meets Violet.). Others are on his playlist simply because he likes them. And others, well…you’ll figure it out if you’ve read the book! But the songs–and their order–kinda tell a story.

Hope you enjoy it!

Oh, and I’ve listed it at iTunes–-you can find the entire playlist at iTunes, listen to samples, buy a song or two or even the entire playlist! Just search for Aidan's Playlist (Haven) on the iTunes store, and it should come up.

1. Waiting for the End — Linkin Park
2. And She Was — Talking Heads
3. October — Broken Bells
4. Young Forever — Jay-Z (featuring Mr. Hudson)
5. In the Aeroplane Over the Sea — Neutral Milk Hotel
6. Should I Stay or Should I Go — The Clash
7. Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) — Green Day
8. Bodies — Drowning Pool
9. Let it Bleed — The Rolling Stones
10. The Only Exception — Paramore
11. A Sky for Shoeing Horses Under — WHY?
12. I Wanna Be the One — Fun
13. Like Dylan in the Movies — Belle and Sebastian
14. Bittersweet Symphony — The Verve
15. Better That We Break — Maroon 5

Oh, and one more thing…if the song had been out at the time that Aidan made the playlist, he *definitely* would have added Mumford & Sons “Little Lion Man.” My guess? He probably would have stuck it in as track 8, before Bodies…but hey, what do I know?! But if you feel like sticking it in there yourself and listening to it at that point in the playlist, I’d say that Aidan would approve (at some point I will actually get around to updating the playlist to include it!)

Parties and Cookies and Books, Oh My!

I can barely believe that HAVEN hits the shelves in a little over a month--where has the time gone?! I'm making plans for the launch party--check the events listing on my page, and if you're in the NYC metro/Westchester area and would like to come, send me a message and I'll forward an invite to you! There will be food, drinks, and--of course!--books to be signed! Plus, it will give you and your family the opportunity to check out an absolutely charming children's/teen's bookstore in Larchmont, NY--The Voracious Reader.

In the meantime, I've just ordered some gorgeous and delicious custom-made HAVEN cookies--some for the party, and some to give away to readers. So keep an eye on my Twitter account, @Kristi_Cook, or my blog at:
http://kristi-cook.livejournal.com/
for opportunities to win.

And lastly, thank you, thank you, THANK YOU so much for your interest in HAVEN!

Happy Reading,
Kristi

That's a wrap!

HAVEN is finally, officially *done*. At least, until copyedits come. I'm so happy with how the book turned out--and I can't wait to share it with everyone! Now the waiting begins for cover art. I'm really anxious to see what Simon Pulse comes up with--I think they have some of the most amazing covers out there. Shouldn't be long now!

In the meantime, my fabulous designer is working on my web site design--he's not just a graphic designer, but a comic book illustrator, as well, and he's got a really great eye. Yesterday I saw one element for the site, and it was amazing. Can't wait to see the full design! The site will eventually be at www.kristi-cook.com, so stay tuned.

Right now I'm busy working on the sequel for HAVEN, tentatively titled THE GLOAMING. It's going to be a fun ride!
