How Writing Novels is a Little Like Peeing Your Pants

As my daughter writhed on the floor of a public bathroom and I practically foamed at the mouth in an attempt to yell at her quietly, it got me thinking. Potty training is really similar to writing a book. Let me explain...

We often take two steps forward only to take one giant leap back.
Potty Training... Dry pull-ups for three nights in a row in addition to naps! M&Ms and stickers all around! Only to be followed by four accidents within an hour directly after that third dry night. That's a lot ...

Tell the Truth Tuesday

1. It's 90 degrees in Cleveland. The air is like soup and I feel a little like someone has drained the life out of me (Edward? Is that you watching me sleep and sucking the life out of me? If so, you better buy me a WAY cuter ring than that hussy, Bella). This kind of weather makes me want to hibernate until it's October.

2. I spent almost my entire weekend reading. SO many good books to share with you guys over the next few months. In fact, we've even come up with an exciting new way to get t...

WTF Friday...

No, it's not Tuesday, but it is almost our nation's birthday, so we figured it was time for a good old, all-American WTF. This week's installment is brought to you by the one and only, Chris Brown.

You can't NOT say WTF after reading this article. I mean...
Chris Brown, the R&B sensation convicted of domestic abuse singing a tribute.Chris Brown, the R&B sensation convicted of domestic abuse singing a tribute to MJ, alleged sex offender.Chris Brown, the R&B sensation convicted of domestic...

PMS: Post Manuscript Sorrow

You know that feeling you get when you're absolutely loving a book and you pass the halfway point? You slow down a little, re-read great sentences, prolong the experience of reading really amazing words. And then when there's only one or two pages left, you begin to mourn the loss of the book, even before it's over. What will you read next? How will you ever love characters as much? How will another author ever top this book?

That's how I feel when we start a new project.

Lisa can spout off id...

WriteOnCon The Vlog Part 2 (WARNING DANCING AHEAD)

Well, we might be a little bit biased, but we think this vlog announcing that WriteOnCon registration opens tomorrow, Thursday July 1st, is even funnier than the first one.

Of course, you don't have to take my word for it. Witness the American Idol-esque antics of one writer determined to get into WriteOnCon.

Karsten, we hate to be the ones to break it to you, but registration is open to EVERYONE at http://www.writeoncon.com/ starting tomorrow. Stancing (stalking while dancing) is NOT...

Triumphant Tuesday

Okay, so the truth is, I'm not feeling even remotely triumphant today. In fact, I'm feeling hot, sweaty, tired, crabby and annoyed with life in general.

And yet, life is pretty freaking good.

I mean, read this post from our favorite Southern Belles over at Plot This. We're writers dammit, and we're lucky to be doing exactly what we love.

So, today I am making as solemn promise to myself to appreciate all of the amazing things in my life. I have a family that I adore, sisters who are my best frie...

What We Learned This Week: The Celeb Edition

Just because it's summer doesn't mean we can't learn a lesson or two. Thank God for celebs.
1. Pimping your kids out to the paps with Twilight props is just tacktastic.

There are so many things wrong with this picture. We're not quite sure where to begin.Um yeah, we get it Twi-hards across the world are excited for the movie premier, but Edward/R. Pattz on a BPA free water bottle? SERIOUSLY? Well, I guess it kind of works in a way. His chilly skin would theoretically keep your water nice and...
