Why All The Cool Magicians Use iPhones
Apple iPhone 4

You will be able to get my new novel This Is Not A Fairy Story from next Wednesday, August 22nd 2012. This is a fantasy adventure story featuring the character Guy Shepardson, whom I first introduced in the short story The Demon Detective
. Guy is a modern day sorcerer and master of the arcane arts, whom I envisage as a sort of James Bond type character, except that he uses spells and magic powers instead of gadgetry from Q branch.
Anywho, one quirky detail that I decided to make was that he owns an iPhone loaded with several sorcery apps. Now obviously this couldn’t happen in real life. Or could it?
The Compass App
Cost: —
This comes pre-loaded in the Utilities. Utterly essential for finding which way East is!
Star Walk
Cost: £1.99
I decided to get this after I found out that two fellow illuminati members, quite independently of one another, had both downloaded this. “Star Walk” is quite simply the best Astronomy app which I have come across. It gives the phases of the moon, the positions of the stars and planets, and best of all, you can point the iPhone at the sky and it will tell you which particularly heavenly bodies lie in that direction.
The magical advantages of this are enormous. Often, one is called upon to invoke the powers of a various zodiacal constellation or planet, so it becomes necessary to draw up an astrological figure of where everything is at the time of your working. E.g. for consecrating an astrological talisman, or for new Adepti, consecrating ones Lotus Wand. However, with this app you can find out on the fly! Probably not a good idea to get it out in the middle of the ritual itself, but use it to work everything out immediately beforehand. NB: because this is an astronomic app you would have to work sidereally not tropically.
Meditation
Cost: £0.69
This was recommended to me: it enables one to create one’s own Meditation music, by combining a number of different sources. The sounds are mostly Buddhist and Hindu mantras and music, as well as nature sounds and sounds mean to entrain various brain-wave states.
Cosmic Ordering
Cost: Free
So there we were, myself and a colleague of mine, on a visit to Glastonbury Tor. We drove round looking for a place to leave the car: however the only available parking space had been taken. I therefore whipped out my iPhone, selected the Cosmic Ordering app, and typed in: “Parking space: now!” and hit “Send.”
At that very moment, the owners of the car that had nabbed the one parking space returned to their vehicle and drove off. We immediately parked, and had a successful trip up to the Tor, even if it was a bit windy.

What The Stars Have In Store For Julian Assange
Get used to this view!
News today that the United Kingdom has rather intemperately threatened to storm the Ecuadorian embassy to forcibly arrest Wikileaks founder Julian Assange. Some cynics amongst us might say that President Obama is putting pressure on David Cameron. However, I say, not so! For I have used my superior powers of Astrology to find out what’s really going on, and I’ve got to say, for once the truth is actually far more interesting! Here then is what the stars have in store for Julian Assange:
I drew up a Horary figure to answer the question: “What will happen to Julian Assange regarding his present situation?” The time, date and place for the question was 12.44pm British Summer Time (11.44am GMT), 16th August 2012, Essex, UK. This produced the following chart:
Horary chart: “What will happen to Julian Assange?” (1144 GMT, 16/08/12, Essex, UK)
First, I looked to the position of Luna, to determine the circumstances in which the question had arisen. This was 9º 33′ of Leo (a Fixed sign), in the 9th House (a Cadent house), some 4º 22′ past the last nearest planet Mercury. This suggests that his current situation relates to an incident approximately four years and two and a half months ago.
This intrigued me, as his current legal battles are based on incidents alleged to have occurred more recently than that, in 2010. So, therefore, I decided to check on Wikileaks’ past history and see what they were up to in 2008, around about the beginning of June / end of May. I realised that the most recent exposé they had done by that point was the publication of secret material of The Church of Scientology.
Xenu: “You’re for it now, Assange!”
Yes, indeed, far from it being a simple case of the US Government being pissed off with Assange, the Scientologists are seeking their revenge against Assange and are using their dupes *ahem* “contacts” in the Washington (and quite possibly) London administrations in order to get back at him.
So now to see what the immediate future holds for Assange: the Lord of the Ascendant, which indicates the development of the matter, is Mars, the planet of Violence, which just so happens to conjunct Saturn, the planet of Death and Restriction, in the twelfth House – which amongst other things represents prison. Could this mean that Assange will meet a violent death in prison??? Well possibly not actually, because Assange himself would be represented by the Lord of the Descendant, which would be Venus, which just so happens to be in the 8th House, the House of Death, where it is opposed by Pluto, the planet of explosive transformations…
Oh dear! This is not looking particularly good for Mr Assange! Let’s see what the end of the matter would be: this is signified by the Lord of the Fourth House, which happens to be Saturn. This of course is as we just noted in conjunction with Mars in the 12th house, so that what was said about Mars above will turn out to be how it all eventually ends up in the long-term.
The one light at the end of the tunnel, if there is one, is that now that Assange knows the kind of astrological forces which are at work, he is in a position to try and overcome them and escape them, instead of just succumbing to his fate. The stars impel, they do not compel, as the old saying goes, which is another way of saying: forewarned is forearmed.
So in conclusion my predictions for Julian Assange are as follows.
Julian Assange will lose his current legal battle, and be extradited from Ecuador (seeing as he has just been granted asylum there).
If Assange gets to prison and hears a mysterious ticking noise, he should arrange for a cell transfer immediately.

Otherkin dating, not as strange as you may think khmer chat line
Role playing in relationships is nothing new. Doctor and nurse, teacher and student… these kinds of fantasies can make dating more fun! However, if you find yourself dating someone in the otherkin community, you may experience a whole new realm of fantasy.
As a member of an online dating site, I began talking to Lindsay, who opened up about her personal otherkin experiences and how it affects her dating life.
My new novel, "This Is Not A Fairy Story," is published next week: August 22nd. This is a story which explores the "Otherkin" phenomenon. To mark the event, I am sharing this, which highlights a real-life issue in the Otherkin community.

Ode To Mo Farah On His Winning His Second Gold at the 2012 Olympics
Mo Farah, Double-Olympic Champion and subject of bad poetry.
Yo, Mo!
You got the flow, bro’!
You ain’t no slow-joe,
And you don’t think “Whoa! Whoa!”
‘Cause that’d be a no-no!
And Seb Coe would be onto Bo-Jo
Saying “How wrong did we go, y’know?”
And Bo-Jo would say to Coe: “Coe!
I don’t really know, fo’ sho’!”
Instead, Mo’s a pro!
And it only goes to show
That the crowd say: Bo! Yo!
Go Mo, Go Mo, Go!
Go, go!
Go.
Go.

Artwork © 2012, Alex Sumner
You now have the opportunity to get a sneak preview of my new novel, This Is Not A Fairy Story. This is a fantasy tale featuring Guy Shepardson, The Demon Detective.
Modern day Sorcerer (and rakish man about town) Guy Shepardson finds himself out of his depth – and out of this world – when he uses his powers to save a desperately ill girl. Instead he finds himself wandering through magical realms populated by monsters, dragons, cannibals, a seriously bemused Voodoo Loa – and a feister Fae Warrior who definitely does NOT want to be Guy’s Damsel In Distress!
But as Guy comes closer to his goal, he realises that the cost could be far greater than he ever imagined…
Unfortunately, you will have to wait until August 22nd to get the full novel, when it will be available in both print and ebook (Kindle, Nook, Kobo, Sony E-reader, etc) editions. However, you can now download the first three chapters free, to whet your appetite.

What Is Visionary Fiction?
Dion Fortune: an early proponent of Visionary Fiction
Stone the crows! I read this, What Is Visionary Fiction? and apparently I’ve just discovered that I’ve been writing in the Visionary Fiction genre all along! Actually, from the description of Visionary Fiction, I believe it is a new name for something which has antecedents going back at least a hundred years or more. Visionary Fiction is here defined as:
Characteristic Features of Visionary Fiction:
Growth of consciousness is the central theme of the story and drives the protagonist, and/or other important characters.
Oftentimes uses reincarnation, dreams, visions, paranormal, psychic abilities, and other metaphysical plot devices.
Is universal in its worldview and scope.
This pretty much describes all of the occult literature of Dion Fortune (e.g. The Winged Bull
, The Sea Priestess
, Moon Magic, etc) and arguably works like Paulo Coelho’s The Alchemist
. It also describes my own humble efforts with The Magus
and its sequels (particularly in the character development of Nichola, the central character). Now it appears that there are an increasing number of emerging authors who specifically identify themselves under the “Visionary Fiction” banner. Let us hope that it is not too long before one of them (us) achieves major cross-over success!

A Bit Of The Other … Kin
Fairy Star
You will be able to buy my new novel, This Is Not A Fairy Story, as of August 22nd 2012 in both print and ebook format from Amazon and other reputable book-sellers. Having dealt with the “dark” side of dark fantasy in my work up to now, in this novel I explore more of the “fantasy” side, to wit: the hero goes to the aid of a girl whom he suspects to be “Otherkin.” For those not aware, the Otherkin phenomenon occurs in real-life – one helpful website defines it as:
Otherkin is a collective noun for an assortment of people who have come to the somewhat unorthodox, and possibly quite bizarre, conclusion that they identify themselves as being something other than human.
I must admit, when I first heard of the concept of Otherkin, I myself found it bizarre. In order to conduct further research, therefore, I did what any self-respecting scholar of the occult would do in a situation like this: I went down the pub to discuss it with my fellow Illuminati members.
First of all, it was generally agreed that new souls must be coming from somewhere. The fact that that Earth’s population is bigger than it ever has been in the past and is steadily increasing implies that – assuming Reincarnation is real – either the average, ahem, ”refractory period” between successive incarnations must be decreasing or that new souls are coming into existence.
As regards the idea of humans being incarnated having been non-human in a previous life, the general consensus of this hastily-composed symposium that in regard to non-mythical creatures it was certainly possible and indeed likely. After all, certain animals (we supposed) have got to spiritually evolve sometime. I myself must admit that I knew someone from my old school who was convinced, even into adulthood, that he was a Dog. I shit ye not! However, despite this belief, he was a fully-functioning, euthymic human-being. I can’t remember if he had a girlfriend or not, although he was sufficiently self-restrained not to go round sniffing girl’s arses (in public at any rate).
When it came to the idea of mythical beings re-incarnating as humans, this proved more difficult for the Illuminati to wrap their heads round the concept: but, as I pointed out – where does the soul really come from? Which of these two statements is the more rational: “Reincarnation exists,” and “Reincarnation of mythical beings as humans exists” ? The fact is that I have actually met people on the occult scene who hold what objectively speaking must be the most preposterous beliefs imaginable, yet when they are confronted with someone else’s belief which is no less preposterous than their own, but outside their box, they denounce it as complete bullshit without any sense of irony.
Here, however, is a theory which I would like to tentatively advance. Several prominent occultists have advanced the idea of “the magical child,” among them Paschal Beverly Randolph
, Aleister Crowley
, Franz Bardon
, Jack Parsons and Israel Regardie
, that is to say, that a skillful magician can consciously influence the nature of the soul of a child conceived in certain sex-magick operations. Regardie is alleged to have claimed that it is even possible, in this fashion, to cause an Enochian entity to incarnate in human form in this way! Now, if we are to suspend our disbelief and accept that such homunculi-operations are possible, is it really too much of a leap of the imagination to say that other magical beings can also be made to incarnate in human form? And if so, why not go as far as saying that it does not necessarily depend upon the conscious desire of a magician, but may occur through an unconscious yearning of mankind that it needs to fulfill in its current state of evolution?
That unfortunately was as far as our symposium got – or at least as far I remember it getting. Clearly, in order to investigate this further, we shall have to create a new field of academic study and call it “Xenology” or “Allopology” (i.e. because technically it can’t really be called anthropology, can it?)

Creating a Vision Board
This vision board is pretty clear
Creating a visual prayer is easy and fun. Just go through magazines and cut out pictures, words, and images that depict the future you’d like to attract into your life. Again, be careful what you wish for. I’ve seen people put pictures of messy rooms up on their vision board to remind them to declutter.

The Order of Great Osiris The Saviour: Part 2
In my previous post on the subject, I had to take down the accompanying photos at the request of the Library & Museum on Freemasonry. However, the nice people at the library have now allowed me to put up new photos – which quite frankly are better quality than the previous ones anyway.
