VIDEO: Local Law Enforcement Fights For Hope - Highland Park-Mount Washington, CA Patch

Leo Vasquez of the Los Angeles Police Department's Communications Division stepped to the center of the ring to meet Brandon Manning, a corrections officers with the Los Angeles Sheriff Department's Central Jail.

Vasquez extended his fists, offering his opponent a chance to touch gloves before the match began. Manning, feeling no such civility, batted Vasquez's gloves away. He was ready to brawl.

WAILUKU, Hawaii -- A 61-year-old man is in the hospital after being bitten by a shark in waters off Maui.

Maui County said Friday the man was snorkeling with another man about 200 yards off Kihei when the shark attacked.

USS Enterprise, World's 1st Nuclear-Powered Aircraft Carrier, Taken Out Of Active Service (PHOTOS)

NORFOLK, Va. — The world's first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier was retired from active service on Saturday, temporarily reducing the number of carriers in the U.S. fleet to 10 until 2015.

The USS Enterprise ended its notable 51-year career during a ceremony at its home port at Naval Station Norfolk, where thousands of former crew members, ship builders and their families lined a pier to bid farewell to one of the most decorated ships in the Navy.
