NaNoWriMo Day 4

Whew! So far, so good... keeping up with the word count - feeling pretty positive. I happen to be a "Pantser" - meaning I don't write from an outline - I just go with whatever's in my head and fly by the seat of my pants (so to speak). That is definitely what is happening here. It's a rush! Here's a pic of my latest update - and a snippet follows...

“I’m okay.” I leaned on my broom. “Death, per se, doesn’t bother me. But, man, I’ve never seen murder — unless you count the bunnies and chipmunks that Patio does in on a fairly regular basis in the spring and summer. What I saw this morning is not an image I’m likely to forget any time soon.”

End of Day 2 - NaNoWriMo

Word count is at 3,996.

A snippet from my novel (by the way - Patio is a cat)...

"His shock of white hair reminded me a bit of Inspector Morse, well, John Thaw, the guy who played him in the series. And, although I loved Morse, I was not kidding myself, Detective Fox was, well, foxier.
Patio scratched at the screen to come outside. I reached behind me and held open the screen. After surveying things from the front and side of the porch, he hopped onto my lap.
“Gawd Almighty, Pats, I’m making up really bad puns about that detective. He is cute, though, isn’t he?” Patio head-butted my hand, for which he was fittingly rewarded with scratches behind the ears."

NaNoWriMo 2018

Thirteen years ago I wrote a NaNo novel - it became my first published book. This year, I'm at it again - new novel, new genre, everything new...  Wish me luck!

Some Sunday morning inspiration...

There isn't a more powerful force in the Universe than Love. Love never fails. When darkness is all around, the light of Love is still present - in your heart and in your thoughts. Love really is all you need. Today is a good day to let that light of Love shine - inside and out! Peace.

Changing things up a bit...

Hi everyone!

I recently decided that for my mental health and my productivity, I need to get off of Facebook. It's been what it's been... but not in my best interests any more. Although I will miss many of my friends from there - I am hoping that they will come here to see what I am up to. And... I hope that this blog will reflect not only the writing aspects of my life - but many others, too.

I am looking forward to this new energy and this new beginning - looking in a new direction (as is Patio Cat).

a long time

Wow! Seems like forever since I've posted here. Actually, it's been a year and a month. A long time!

Just finished a new book - a middle grade set in 1962. Waiting to see what my agent thinks about it. In the meantime, I wait - and I write more.

Still hoping to get XVI book 3 ready to e-pub. I will post more info on that here.

I will be back...

Next in line...

Aha! Found the next writing project! A Young Adult mystery. It's a completed draft, in the edit/rewrite stages, and it's a story I love! A teaser...

"For the first time ever, I’m glad Mom and Dad insisted I take every first aid course the YMCA offered. I kneel next to her and place two fingers on her throat. Her skin is cool, too cool. There’s no pulse. I check again to be sure.
How long has she been dea… I can’t even think the word. A cold thrill runs up my spine. What if she’s been mur-- Don’t go there, Cait! My hands shake so badly it’s hard to hit speed dial."

More to come... But in the meantime, blackberries from the garden... I see muffins in my future!

While I've been waiting...

Still waiting for word on XVI - Homecoming (book 3). But, I haven't been letting my fingers (or my brain) get rusty. Nope - I just typed "The End" on an historical, middle grade book. While that simmers on the back burner, I'm going through several other partials and story ideas... I wonder what will be next?

Waiting, waiting, waiting...

While I am waiting to hear from my agent about her thoughts on XVI book 3 (XVI - Homecoming) - I have been busy on other projects!

The one I am mainly focusing on is a Middle Grade historic fiction. To give a bit of a hint about the era - there was radio, and Billboard was putting out lists! Here are a few songs from the list for the year in which the novel is set. Can you guess what year it was from these three chart-topping hits?

Duke of Earl - Gene Chandler
Johnny Angel - Shelley Fabares
I Can't Stop Loving You - Ray Charles

How'd you do? Did you have to Google them, or did you know? Let me know in the comments!
