TANGLED ROOTS Now Available Through Coming Together: Neat

ALL proceeds from the sales of Coming Together: Neat titles will be placed in a microlending account at Kiva, where they will help entrepreneurs in 3rd world countries launch or expand their businesses.

My erotic romance Tangled Roots has been on the market for a few years now, and while it's still available from eXcessica Publishing, if you buy this brand-spanking-new Coming Together: Neat rerelease, proceeds will benefit entrepreneurs in third world companies through Kiva. I love this concept because it's a hand up, not a hand out.

So if you're into helping people help themselves, a great way to get started is to buy a copy of Tangled Roots by Giselle Renarde! Though this book is set largely at the lakeside cabin, it's not exactly a fun-in-the-sun romance. It gets pretty dark, actually, as these characters battle with the weight of their shared identity.

TANGLED ROOTS

Control. Over her relationships, her heritage, her career... and above all, her emotions. It is what Simone desires above all else, and what she had managed to keep. But now that is changing. She is lost in the wilderness, and it will take a man named Moses to lead her to a promised land she never knew she wanted. Together, they will untangle the roots of her past, so they can grow together into their future.

Excerpt

"I love you, Moses," she said in disbelief. "I love you."

Kissing her forehead, Moses replied, "Maybe you do. And maybe you're looking for something beautiful to counterbalance the pain. Either way, Simone, you are loved. You are worthy of love. I guarantee it."

The tears she cried turned from tortured to awed, like when she used to cry in church, never knowing why. Running her hands across the prickly hair of his head, Simone pulled Moses in to take comfort in the warmth of his mouth. His tongue still tasted of black liquorice and of her. She kissed him hungrily, desperately, like she could consume his spiritual knowledge this way.

Simone expected him to push her away, ask her to stop, thinking she was too emotional. He didn't. No, Moses kissed her back, wrapping her body in his tremendous arms, leaning her down until her hair touched the pine needles. Hungry for love in any form, in all its forms, Simone pulled off her clinging top. No more weeping. Her awe was silent now, and she wiped the traces of tears from her cheeks. Firelight kissed Moses' skin, making him look like an angel in hell, while it warmed her naked breasts.

"I'm sure," she whispered in anticipation of the question he seemed about to ask.

Her eager nipples piqued in expectation, pointing up to the greener-than-green treetops. An errant raindrop found its way through the cover overhead, bursting against her chest. The bristle of Moses' hair excited Simone's skin as he followed the rain down her breasts. There he worshipped, taking the luscious orbs in his hands as he pressed his beautiful face into them. Softly, he kissed her flesh, leaving wet lip marks in his wake. Slowly, he ran his hot tongue along the cleave, from the base of her round breasts up.

His soft mouth against her nipples sent a message, like an electrical current through her body. The feel of his wet tongue on her breasts ignited her pussy, and that raindrop sensation came back to her abdomen. With every nerve-ending Moses touched, new feelings of beauty awakened in her. He wrapped her in his protective arms, sucking at her breasts. The dew of his mouth on her skin made her body bloom like a patch of white trillium flowers. In her mind, she could see pure white petals bursting through every precious green bud in the forest. The sun and rain together inspired new birth. As Moses planted loving kisses across her chest, a drop of crystal rain kissed her forehead. It flowed like holy water through her hair, cleansing her guilty conscience. Simone's eyes opened wide. She was awakened.

Quick Six TNG with AKM Miles

Today's guest is "foolishly afraid" of possible symbolism in questions about monkeys. Please join me in welcoming AKM Miles!

1. What does "vanilla" mean to you?
Bland. I have a funky stomach and arthritis and can't eat spicy or chocolate as the caffeine in it hurts my arthritis. So, I do vanilla more than I want to. In writing? Bland, not too spicy...hmm...

2. Is there any moment from your life that you remember in slow motion?
When I got a call that my father had died of a heart attack.

3. What's the most unsettling movie you've ever seen?
Exorcist, I guess. Don't like scary movies at all.

4. If you had to get a tattoo on your face, what would you want it to
look like?
A rainbow feather quill pen like my logo

5. How many monkeys jumping on the bed?
Foolishly afraid to answer this as I'm not sure if it has some kind of symbolism that I don't know about and would therefore answer in a strange way...cowardly, I know.

6. Which of the books or stories you've written is your favourite?
Soldier. Can't help it. I love all the characters. http://www.torquerebooks.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&manufacturers_id=114&products_id=1814

Soldier is a loner, scarred, damaged and aimless when he discovers someone is using the house on the property he has come to town to investigate. Staying to look into the situation adds more to his life than he ever dreamed possible, leaving him championing seven boys whose lives had been as ravaged as his. Suddenly his life has purpose, meaning.

The other unexpected development is Dillon. Resigned to a life spent alone, it's hard for him to wrap his mind around the fact that Dillon returns his feelings. Every minute spent counseling and protecting the boys makes Soldier's life richer, but it makes it hard to spend time with Dillon. Can he find a way to take his new life and make it everything he wants it to be?

Your Weekend Sizzle: New Year's Naughty

I was thrilled today to discover a great little antho called New Year's Naughty available from All Romance! This book contains a sci fi story by Alysha Ellis and a contemporary erotic romance (with a crazy-ass twist--you'll NEVER see it coming!) by me. Oh, and my story is also ridiculously Canadian. I can't say exactly what that means...something about snow and Atom Egoyan-like weirdness. You'll have to read it and find out.
New Year's Naughty was released last year by Shadowfire Press, but until now it's only been available direct from the publisher's website. Well, now you can buy it from ARe, so...YAY! I'll tell you a little bit about it:

Description Out of the Cold by Giselle Renarde.

Who will Amira ring in the New Year with when her online romance goes awry?

Blurb
Timid Amira is desperately craving amusement when she meets the endearingly bashful Keith at a first aid training course. Too shy to ask for it, she sneaks a peek at his registration form to get his email address. After exchanging some very naughty notes, Amira decides they absolutely must get together on New Year's Eve. Imagine her surprise when she discovers she hasn't been communicating with cute Keith at all. Who will Amira ring in the New Year with now?

New World Order by Alysha Ellis

A New World. A New Year. A New Love.

Blurb
After a pirate attack Aden Hircroft lands his damaged ship on Earth. He has to repair the damage and return to his own galaxy before the pirates trace him. They want his cargo and they won't care what harm they do to the people of Earth to get it. But Aden is torn between his need to escape and his desire for Lisa, the woman he meets when she comes to investigate the crash site. As New Year's Eve looms closer, Lisa and Aden race to refit his spacecraft and explore the passion that develops between them.
Excerpt: Out of the Cold by Giselle Renarde.
Ever since that fateful December day, she couldn't stop thinking about him. Keith's body had been so close behind her, she could still feel it there at times. Her skin sizzled. Her breath fluttered. Her auntie asked if she was feeling sickish. "What? Sick?" she asked. Of course she felt sick—lovesick! Family never understood. "No, Auntie, I'm fine. Tired, maybe. I'll go to bed early tonight."

Her auntie, sister, and cousins all stared at her from around the dinner table. She tried not to miss meals. Since she'd moved into her auntie's basement apartment, the family wondered what's up with that girl? any time she didn't eat with them. They always mistook emotion for illness. She couldn't wait to steal back to her own space and daydream in peace. Even just thinking back over the time they spent with his long arms wrapped around her curves made her ecstatic. It was too bad they didn't get to practise mouth-to-mouth together. That would have been nice. But no, they used a dummy for that nowadays.

By the time their first aid class was over, Amira was burning up inside. She wondered if Keith felt it too, but how could she possibly ask? When she opened her mouth, silence fell out. Anxiety won, as usual. He left. For a few sad seconds, she thought all was lost and then she caught sight of the registration list on Sheila's table. How sleazy would it be to sneak a peek at Keith's personal information? All she really wanted was his email address. And it's not like she was going to spam him or anything. Was it really such a big deal?

Amira grabbed a pen from her purse and scrawled the address on the inside of her arm as she set a direct course for the exit. Though her body was burning up already, she put on her knit scarf, hat, mitts, and baby blue pea coat. Out into the cold of another Canadian winter. It wasn't even really the cold that bothered her. Mostly, she hated that it got dark at four in the afternoon. No wonder Christmas, Hanukkah, and New Year's all fell around the time of year, when the sun was at its most evasive. Imagine how desperate the population would become without all the little twinkle lights and giant glowing orbs that kissed the cityscapes of North America.

Big, chunky flakes fell in wet clumps, melting against her hot cheeks. It was a mild snowfall that day, she reflected as she stared at her computer screen after dinner with auntie et al. "Packing snow," Canadians called it. Why did they call it that? Probably because it was the only kind of snow you could pack together to build a snowman. They should call it snowman snow. She laughed at herself as she eased back in her chair. Naming the snow, eh Amira? Well, she'd already exhausted every other avenue of procrastination. After a week of postponing her plan to make contact—Not today; it's Christmas Eve. Wouldn't want to interrupt his Christmas Dinner. Can't today, it's Boxing Day—she was adamant the day had arrived. When she pictured Keith's large hazel eyes contoured with thick, long lashes, and imagined standing on tip-toes to kiss him, she was more determined than ever. His caring eyes could melt the icicles from the eaves. She imagined those eyes staring back at her from the computer screen. The time was nigh. Now, where to begin?

Hello Keith.

No, too formal.

Hey Keith.

No, too casual.

Hi Keith.

Yes, that was perfect! Pulling her curly hair into a ponytail, she stared at the body of her email. Okay, so she had the first two words. What next?

Hi Keith,

My name is Amira. We met last week at the first aid training session. I was just wondering if maybe you might remember me?

Man, this attempt at flirtation was "like, so totally boring," as her little sister would say. Amira scrapped it all and started over.

Hi Keith,

Amira here, from the first aid course. I'm sure you must remember me, because I can't stop thinking about you.

Well, how was that for ridiculous? There was no way good, quiet, respectable Amira could send anything so silly. It wasn't her. Although, come to think of it, good, quiet, respectable Amira never had much fun, did she? And why not? Because she was too afraid of appearing foolish? Of being turned down? What kind of a reason was that to always play it safe? Everybody needed a little bit of fun in life, and after years of self-denial, she was desperately craving amusement. Why not, just this once, tell someone what she was really thinking? If Keith thought she was a total moron, that was fine. She would probably never see him again anyway. But if Keith had the same thing in mind, Amira's life might just become a lot more exciting.

New World Order by Alysha Ellis

He looked at her through half closed eyes. "Even before the drive went bad, there was only a thirty percent chance I'd get through with my life or the cargo intact. Conditions in the rest of the galaxy are harsh and no one depends on anything. You survive on your own if you survive at all. It would be good to have one night of peace, of softness. I'll leave tomorrow." His voice lowered. "So, Lisa. You haven't told me yet. How long do we have to wait before we can fuck?"

He opened his eyes and looked at her. She felt the heat of his gaze warming her all the way through. He hadn't made any attempt to hurt her, not even in retaliation for her kick. Sure he'd take off for the other side of galaxy the moment he repaired his ship, but that was a good thing...no recriminations, no consequences. Just one night of sex before she settled back into her habitual sexual drought.

So, no real negatives and the benefits were obvious. He had a body to die for. Young, fit... surely space pilots would have to be fit? What did she have to lose? He'd already told her he was disease free.

She picked up the plates and dropped them into the sink, then she turned. She tried to speak, but had to clear her throat of the monolith that seemed to have lodged there. "Would now be good?"

Classy Commercial from Crossdressing Clothiers

Suddenly Fem (Crossdresser.com) recently announced they'll be promoting their brand on national television.

According to their PR release:

Suddenly Fem has almost 20 years experience designing and manufacturing high-end styles for the transgendered customer. With its exclusive product offerings such as the first denim skirt line made for men and the first ultra-realistic sheer pocketbra design, Suddenly Fem is leading the way in fashion and respect for the sophisticated crossdresser.

Their website showcases a wide range of products for MTF crossdressers and trans women--everything from breast forms to clothing to heels to gaffs to wigs. 4.5 Stars for UGLY NAKED PEOPLE

I recently received a wonderful review from Three Dollar Bill Reviews for my mainstream lesbian short story UGLY NAKED PEOPLE. Reviewer Emily goes so far as to say, "Everyone should take the time to read this moving and emotional short story." What better praise could an author ask?
Title: UGLY NAKED PEOPLE
Buy link: http://www.allromanceebooks.com/product-uglynakedpeople-444201-182.html
Back cover blurb:Rave is concerned about her girlfriend Astrid's rapidly declining weight and health. As Astrid's eating disorder begins to take its toll on the couple's relationship, Rave hopes that a dramatic move on her part will save both Astrid and the future they could have together.
Review snippet with link to the complete review:Author Renarde sets up this expertly crafted story with care and depth, with characterizations that are fleshed out even within just a few paragraphs. [...] This story is not just a comment on the effect of societal pressures to fit a body image that is far from healthy. It also shows how being uncomfortable with one's sexuality can manifest in very dangerous and destructive ways.

FREE Subscription to Lesbian Connection Magazine

This offer came through on the Sapphic Planet group I belong to. Lesbian Connection is a free magazine for lesbians. We're talking print, not e-zine, and they'll mail it to you at no charge. How wonderful is that? Details below:

Hello from Margy at Lesbian Connection magazine!

I'm trying to get the word out to lesbians everywhere about our FREE magazine. In case you haven't heard of LC before, or if you just lost touch with us, here's some info:

Lesbian Connection is the free worldwide forum of news, ideas, and information for, by, and about lesbians. We've been publishing since 1974, and we mail issues out every other month in plain brown envelopes (the word "lesbian" doesn't appear anywhere on the outside).

This magazine is a grassroots forum, which means it's truly written by our readers. On its pages you'll find info for lesbians on places to live and where to travel, lesbian B&Bs and guesthouses, websites, cruises, festivals, conferences, lesbian land and retirement communities, products (books, CDs, DVDs, etc.), campgrounds and retreats, lesbian lawyers and realtors, as well as the comic strip "Dykes to Watch Out For," and much more. There are also reviews, articles, and letters dealing with whatever issues LC's readers are talking about, from "The L Word" to health issues, relationships, and politics.

So, if you're a lesbian and you'd like to start receiving LC, all you need to do is email us (elsiepub@aol.com) your full name and complete (snail mail) mailing address and we'll be happy to add you to our list. (By the way, our mailing list is totally confidential; we never sell, loan or share it with anyone else.) We'd also like to know where you heard about us. In case you're wondering LC survives on the donations we receive from our readers. However, contributions are voluntary and subscriptions really are free to all lesbians. Our goal is, quite simply, to connect the lesbian community worldwide. (F.Y.I. our official name and address is Elsie Publishing Institute (EPI), PO Box 811, East Lansing, MI 48826, ph 517-371-5257, fax 517-3 71-5200. EPI is a U.S. tax-deductible 501(c)3 nonprofit charity.)

We hope to hear from you soon, and feel free to forward this information on to your lesbian friends and list-serves!

For Lesbian Connection,

Margy

P.S. If you email us by the end of the month we should be able to get you into our next mailing.

Quick Six TNG with DC Juris

Today we're lucky to have author DC Juris at Donuts & Desires for the weekly Quick Six TNG!

1. What does "vanilla" mean to you?
I'd love to say the first thing that springs to my mind is something nice and innocent, maybe having to do with ice cream or yogurt, but it's not. I think of sex. :-P
2. Is there any moment from your life that you remember in slow motion?
When my husband (then fiance) was in the ICU for 3 days back in 2002. I remember feeling like I was walking through thick fog or soup the entire time. Every second just inched by, and the days stretched out into the nights and I barely noticed if it was light or dark outside. I don't think I slept at all until he came home. I alternated by spending my time at the hospital, at work, and at home on a cleaning spree. I was in constant motion, because I knew if I stopped at any moment, the reality of his life hanging in the balance would just kill me. Even now, if I think back, I can see the images in my head but they play out in this dramatically slow fashion.
3. What's the most unsettling movie you've ever seen?
The Secret Window with Johnny Depp. He plays Mort, a writer who finds out his wife is cheating on him, so he goes out to this secluded cabin where he suffers writers block. Then this guy shows up, and accuses him of plagiarism, but the guy turns out to be imaginary, and we discover Mort has dissociative identity disorder. He eventually kills his wife and her lover, but doesn't get caught for it. The whole movie is just creepy.
4. If you had to get a tattoo on your face, what would you want it to look like?
A spider web! Wouldn't that be hot? Not like, cheesy centered in the middle spider web like Spiderman. It would appear to come down out of my hairline, and there'd be a spider coming up from under my chin.
5. How many monkeys jumping on the bed?
Ugh! None! I hate monkeys! They have monkey hands and monkey feet and they smell.
6. Which of the books or stories you've written is your favourite?
"Finding Sanctuary". It's my newest release, and it's with Fanny Press. It's completely different than anything else I've written, and I absolutely loved following Vincent on his journey of discovery. He led me to write about things I'd never delved into before, and I worried that I was going too far, but in the end, everything is just so perfect for him. I love seeing a character struggle and grow, and come out on the other side more whole than they ever thought they could be.
Blurb:
Vincent is a typical, average guy who has begun to unravel. He has a respectable, mainstream life, with a solid job, nice girlfriend, comfortable house—all the material trappings. What, then, is causing this restlessness, these blackouts? The first revelation is that his best friend Eric is also his heart's desire. But then Eric invites him to a weekend at a BDSM playhouse ... There Vincent will confront his fears and test the limits of his sexual boundaries. Eric has his needs, too—needs that conflict with Vincent's. Will their fragile new bond survive the weekend?
Will Vincent find the sanctuary he so fervently desires?

Call for Submissions: New "Candlelight" Romance Line

I'm lucky to be working with some really amazing publishers at the moment, and Untreed Reads is one of my absolute favourites. Editor-in-Chief Jay Hartman has been incredibly supportive of my efforts to raise funds for LGBT Youthline, a queer-positive peer support organization, and he's just generally...awesome! Sorry, but there's no other word for him. He gets his authors' works out there in the spotlight and he makes us shine.
Gush, gush, gush...
But I'm totally serious. Love him to death. And now Untreed Reads has opened up a new line of short romance fiction I thought might appeal to a lot of the authors who visit Donuts & Desires. No, he's not looking for erotica, but he is looking for...well, instead of explaining how about I just post Jay's call below:
I'm pleased to announce the launch of a new literary romance short story line at Untreed Reads called Candlelight. The line is now open for submissions.

We do have VERY specific guidelines for Candlelight which are:

1. Every sexual orientation is welcome.
2. Word count limit is 7000.
3. The heat level is limited to PG or PG-13. Any sex scenes must be consummated "off-page." These should be "sweet romances."
4. Stories should have a very strong literary feel to them. Examples of current Untreed Reads titles that would fit into this would be: Song on the Sand by Ruth Sims, How to Eat Fruit by Anne Brooke,Continuum by George Seaton and 4 Stories Down, 4 Stories Up by Sara Elizabeth. Excerpts from these titles are available in The Untreed Reads Store to give you a better idea of our expectations.
5. Works need to be believable and real. No genies, werewolves, witches, aliens, etc.. Real people in real relationships.
6. HEA (Happily Ever After) is NOT a requirement. See #5.

I cannot stress enough that the stories must be very strong in both character and plot. The standard Untreed Reads Submission Guidelines remain in regards to what we will never accept (i.e.: rape, bestiality, etc.).

We are particularly interested in the following plots: 60+ romance, Spanish-language, minority cultures and family life (romance when you've got kids, while taking care of elderly live-in parents, etc.).

Should you have any questions, please feel free to direct them to me at jhartman@untreedreads.com . This is an open, ongoing Call for Submissions. Please feel free to redistribute to any mailing lists or groups you might have.

Best,
Jay Hartman

Your Weekend Sizzle: ONDINE by Giselle Renarde

Looking for a book that's a little bit heteromance and a little bit lesbian?

Ondine has something for everyone! Could you go for a darling romance about a clumsy artist falling for the rich boy? Got it! Do you love girls succumbing to the temptations other women? Got it! How about pansexual hippie orgies and M/F/F ménage? Got those too! If you love it, Ondine 's got it! This title is already available as an audio book from iTunes, Audible and Audible UK, and now you can get it in print or as an e-book !

Blurb~
Novice painter Evelyn Fon gets more than she bargained for after receiving her first big commission with the brand new Drinkwater Hotel. Who would have guessed Gavin Drinkwater, heir to the family fortune, would take such a keen personal interest in her? But when Evelyn arrives at the hotel's elegant Gala Celebration, she soon discovers she's there as a date for Gavin Drinkwater Senior, her crush's elitist - albeit incredibly handsome - father!

In attempting to escape the party - not to mention her embarrassment - Evelyn stumbles upon Gavin's mother, Imelda. Over a bottle of champagne, Imelda reveals the 20-year-old tale of her torrid lesbian love affair with a young ballerina named Ondine. But, as Evelyn soon finds out from the Drinkwater patriarch, there's more deception to her love story than even Imelda is aware. Can Evelyn uncover the truths buried in the past and reunite Gavin's estranged free-loving parents?Perhaps her role in the family drama will even earn her a place in the bashful heir's heart.

An erotic journey through the worlds of ballet, art, and passionate liaisons, Ondine is a sensual exploration of pansexual free love wrapped in a boy-meets-girl tale of mix-ups and misunderstandings. Warning: This title contains graphic language and depictions of lesbian sex, a pansexual orgy, and M/F/F ménage.

Erotic Excerpt from Ondine

Ondine's impulse to flee subsided as Yvette traced gloved fingers across her forearm, consoling, "Ah! No, no, no! Don't cry, ma chere. We don't want your eyes all red and puffy as you greet your future husband." Yvette found a tissue in her purse and dried her eyes. "There. You look more beautiful than ever. I would be proud if you were my bride."

Her bride? What a ridiculous thing to say! Yvette's bride? Champagne bubbles effervesced in Ondine's belly, rising up through her chest until they burst as laughter from her throat. She couldn't contain the joy of being close again after weeks of estrangement and longing. A smile crawled across Yvette's cheeks as laughter burst the tension pervading the cold church room.

"Clotilde did my hair. Do you like it?" Ondine asked, fishing for a compliment.

"Absolument!" she giggled. "I always said you looked good with your hair up."

Giddy now, Ondine danced over to the old sofa at the far end of the room and collapsed there in her bridal gown. Yvette followed to lean in beside her, midnight black against pristine white. What a relief to feel at ease after so long. How wonderful to giggle and chat, and simply feel comfortable with Yvette again.

"There's something I have to tell you," Ondine admitted, gazing into her friend's cheerful eyes. Of course, she couldn't say the words with Yvette looking right at her, so she leaned in close and whispered, "I can't kiss Rejean without imagining you. Isn't that scandalous?"

For all her reluctance, now that she'd finally given voice to her irreverent desires, they no longer seemed so devastating. In fact, they seemed rather funny. Ondine laughed. They both did.

"Do you think I can ever be happy with Rejean?" Ondine asked.

"I hope so, for your sake," she sighed with seeming sincerity. Yvette spoke slowly into her ear, allowing each word the weight it deserved. "But if you want the absolute truth, I suspect you'd be more fulfilled if I were your lover."

A new wave of desire bred goose bumps along Ondine's bare arms. Yvette sat so near to her she could feel the intense heat radiating from that body cloaked all in black. Their cheeks brushed as Yvette leaned back to look into her eyes. Ondine knew she was about to get kissed. She knew it and did nothing to prevent it. She wanted that kiss. Would it feel as she'd always imagined? Soft and warm? Slow and languorous?

Yvette placed a firm hand on Ondine's cheek, holding her gaze steady. As their lips touched, glossy pink against deep crimson, heavy breaths escaped them both. Ondine savoured their long-awaited first kiss, her frantic tongue swimming in the warm pool of Yvette's mouth. Her body was electrified. Particles of energy darted through her like shooting stars. Never has she imagined a woman could kiss so heatedly, with such blazing intensity. Ondine wanted more. She wanted everything.

Welcoming Yvette's touch, she hiked up the skirts of her gown with desperate determination. Moth to flame, Yvette's hand cupped her mound over her new silk panties. Cupped and squeezed. Beneath her bridal lingerie, sweet juices flowed. Surrendering herself completely to the woman in black, she laid limp beneath the torrent of kisses. Whatever Yvette wished for, Ondine desired.

Forcing her satin-gloved hand beneath Ondine's panties, Yvette plunged impassioned fingers into her silken slit. The nectar flowed faster as she rubbed those tender lips. Yvette broke away to watch in the mirror, mesmerized as she massaged the bride's clito, but Ondine had waited far too long for that kiss. She wouldn't let it slip away so easily. Grasping Yvette's head in her hands, she brought the girl's lips to hers and kissed them in a frenzy. There wasn't much time. She had to get married soon.
