A new Crowley video lecture!

I have a new video lecture out there: ”A Touch of Vitriol – The Short Story Magic of Aleister Crowley”

Author Carl Abrahamsson talks about the intricate auto-fictional aspects of Crowley’s short stories, and how they reveal details about Crowley’s psycho-sexual antics and emotional compensations. The ”Great Beast” may not be remembered as an author first and foremost but when you actually zoom in and take a closer look there’s always a lot to unpack. Whether constructed consciously or intuitively expressed in an inspired moment, Crowley’s fiction is a great gateway to a deeper understanding of his fascinating psyche and creativity.

Carl Abrahamsson: Tripping the Dark Light Fantastic – Some Notes On Derek Jarman and His Influence

Author Carl Abrahamsson talks about his admiration for British filmmaker and occultist Derek Jarman in general and Jarman’s psychedelic super-8 epic ”In the Shadow of the Sun” (1980) specifically. This film and its soundtrack by Throbbing Gristle became a door opener for Abrahamsson, into a world of Occulture and underground art as creative tools in an influential  magical world view, and into a world of mind-expanding experimental cinema as a modern-day example of timeless Occultism. In 2015, Abrahamsson even made his own tribute to Jarman’s influential film: ”Sub Umbra Alarum Luna.” Derek Jarman was a key figure within a never before experienced scene in which the medieval magic of John Dee cross-fertilized with the radical sex magic ideas of Thee Temple Ov Psychick Youth (TOPY).

Chimera Obscura – Selected Exhibitions 2003-2014: Photographs by Carl Abrahamsson has now been released. It looks great and I’m very proud of this book.

“Basic wisdom: the shutter is a guillotine that separates the vision of the mind – conscious or not – from the body of (often) ill-expressed desires. The vision is the way in and out: the image as a gateway drug to real unknown pleasures of fantasy and fact. Humanoid celluloid, silver-lined emotional emulsions projecting darkness into the light for some kind of eternity’s sake.”

This book contains photographs from Carl Abrahamsson’s exhibitions Gothic (2003), Lost and Fond (2007), Olika Människor (2007), Death Is In Our Hearts (2009), Kofeina (2010), FanzinEra (2010), and Imprisoned Sentences (2014).
