Become a Patron of my cyberpunk work on Patreon
Those who have been paying attention to the Bridge Chronicles site for my cyberpunk series will notice that the whole site has been given a facelift. It’s been high time I made that site over as I hadn’t changed the look since releasing The Long and the Short Swords, almost two years ago. Part of the reason for the inactivity was because of the focus on my cosmic horror series, The Stepping Stone Cycle. With the release of the third novella in that series imminent, I’ve decided to alter my wr...

Dan O’ Brien Releases Mobsters, Monsters & Nazis
I was contacted by fellow indie author Dan O’Brien about promoting his latest release, now available on Amazon’s Kindle Store. Called Mobsters, Monsters and Nazis, it is acollaboration between Dan O’Brien and Steve Ferchaud, who illustratedConspirators of the Lost Sock Army and the Loose Change Collection Agency. He sent along a cover illustration and some interior sketches as well, that’s I’ve displayed below.Releasing as six issues (eBooks) starting on Halloween, it is influenced by film no...

Reamde by Neal Stephenson Review
I’m a huge fan of Neal Stephenson’s work. Snow Crash is one of those books that has had a huge effect on my own writing and remains one of my all-time favorite novels. In addition, I’m a longtime player of MMOG’s like the one Stephenson describes in this book, T’Rain. The concept of one of my favorite authors exploring the intersection of virtual worlds with the real world was intriguing.
Unfortunately, Reamde did not hold together well at all. Most of Stephenson’s work is somewhat obscure, as...

Ebola – A Case for Collectivism
The big news this week is that finally, at long last, an actual case of ebola has made its way to America. The “doomsday” scenario of countless movies and books has come to pass and the news media has been gleefully shitting its pants ever since. Their attempts to spread fear and despair have so far not really worked. I don’t see major panic in the streets, riots and looting or even much more than gallows humor. Perhaps its because the CDC has said that they are fairly certain the disease is...

Why do Dead Dogs Matter More than Battered Women to the NFL?
Unless you’ve been under a rock the last three days, you’ve probably seen the video of Ray Rice smacking the ever-living shit out of his then-fiancee in a casino elevator. Even if you aren’t into football, you have probably been exposed to this sordid story of domestic violence and corporate ineptitude. It highlights a major problem not just with the NFL but with society in general – the problem being that all too often, we don’t think about domestic violence and its victims until it explodes...

My Encounter with a Bat… IN MY HOUSE
Have you ever experienced the sheer animal terror of discovering that there’s a bat in your house?
I have now. I’m getting ready for bed last night, my wife is out of town on a trip so it’s just me and the dogs. I get the dogs shuttled into the bedroom with the door closed and finish brushing my teeth when I see something flap by outside the bathroom door from downstairs and into the other bedroom. “What the fuck was that?” I say to myself, inching towards the door. “Was that a bird?” Flap fla...

Another Mass Killing – Another Wrong-headed Debate
In the aftermath of yet another of the all-too-regulartragedies we seem to have in this country, the Internet and various mass media outlets are engaging in yet another debate. I’m speaking of course about the horrible deaths of seven in Santa Barbara by Elliot Rodger. I’ve barely been involved with news media this holiday weekend, and honestly, I don’t need to hear many of the details about this case to know that most of the debate surrounding this case is going to be wrong-headed and futile...

Web site for my new series is live!
It’s been nine months since I released The Long and the Short Swords and announced that I’d be taking a hiatus from the Bridge Chronicles. Now, I’m finally able to announce what I’ve been working on – The Stepping Stone Cycle. To celebrate the upcoming release of the first novella in my new cosmic horror series, First Stone, I’m proud to open The Stepping Stone Cycle series web site. The novella is in the final stages of editing now, and I hope to release it over the upcoming Black Friday wee...

Vote for my remix on Indaba Music
I’ve recently submitted a remix for a contest on Indaba Music, the indie music/remixing site. How to Destroy Angels is Trent Reznor’s post-Nine Inch Nails project. When I saw that they were offering three tracks for remixing opportunities, I jumped at the chance. I’ve always loved Reznor’s music and remixing a track sounded like fun. You can hear the track and see links to vote on my track in the widget below.

Into Familiarity – Star Trek Into Darkness Movie Review
While I am a lifelong fan of the original Star Trek TV series and movies, as well as an occasional viewer of the spinoffs up until the abortion that was Voyager, I could never claim to be a Trekkie of any sort. I am, however, well-versed in the lore and hold the adventures of Captain Kirk in high esteem. I enjoyed the 2009 reboot of the series by J.J. Abrams as much for the more action-oriented slant he put on the series as for the new character interaction dynamics he introduced with the new...
