Review Chrysalis Tribulations
Chrysalis: Tribulations by M.L. Lacy (Customer Review) 06/08/2010
By Charlie Campbell
Chrysalis: Tribulations is the second in the Chrysalis series. In this installment Bree is continuing to come into her powers she will ultimately obtain as the ‘Chosen One’. She still has to contend with Esmaralda trying to end her life so she, Esmeralda, may become the all powerful sorceress she desires to be by aid of a demon who needs Bree’s blood to become whole.
Bree is also having to deal with discontentment from Madelyn, a member of her vampire clan, who is jealously vying for the female Alpha position which has been granted to Bree.
Thomas, a member of another clan, has been discovered by Esmaralda as being not the loyal servant she thought him to be and is seeking to replace him. Thomas’ clan has been secretly protecting Bree and is now in danger of it‘s own.
Esmaralda is holding nothing back in her attacks on Bree. Even going so far as to strike at members of Bree‘s family.
Bree’s ‘Tribulations’ are slowly weakening her to the concern of her friends and family and herself. Her powers are growing too rapidly for her body to keep up with, but problems are also coming at her so rapidly she cannot take the precautions needed to recover properly.
Will she be able to cope with her rapidly increasing powers and defeat her nemesis, or will she succumb to her weakening body.
You will have to find out for yourself. But, you WILL enjoy this story.

Review Chrysalis The Awakening
Chrysalis: The Awakening by M.L. Lacy (Customer Review) 06/08/2010
By Charlie Campbell
This is the story of Aubrey (Bree) Campbell who, at the age of 32, discovers she is the last of the 'Chosen Ones', destined to save the earth from demons by repairing cosmic tears between the Mortal and Magical worlds that is allowing demons to come to earth. At this time in her life she discovers the life she has been leading is not the one she was destined for. As she comes to know of the life prophesied for her she finds her soul mate Steven is a member of a vampire clan who has been assigned to protect her until she transforms from her mortal life to the magical life of a sorceress, the last and most powerful sorceress ever.
She also discovers there are those trying to end her existence led by Esmeralda, a sorceress tempted by the power she will have if she can free a demon to aid her in ridding the world of all mortals so she will be a supreme ruler of the Magical world.
As Bree begins to remember the journey she must take to become the sorceress she is destined to be she is assisted by the Guardians through her dreams. She begins to unleash her latent powers as she transforms and begins to become a power to be reckoned with. Her transformation is hindered by the treachery of Esmeralda's followers and her own doubts at times.
Bree's journey through her transformation is spellbinding and good reading.

Having read “Chrysalis: The Awakening,” I was pleasantly surprised to find that “Chrysalis: Tribulations,” which is the second book in the series, was even better than the first. “Chrysalis: Tribulations” starts off where “Chrysalis: The Awakening” left off. Bree continues to work on strengthening her magic and accept her status of being one of “The Chosen.” As her powers strengthen, she also continues to have to protect herself and those close to her from her nemesis, Esmeralda. Desperate to capture Bree and remove her heart, Esmeralda pulls out all stops to try to get Bree to surrender. She doesn’t care who she hurts or how much she hurts them. Bree constantly has to struggle to outwit Esmeralda and her minions.
In addition to dealing with increasing her new powers, and the struggle with Esmeralda, Bree also has to deal with animosity within her own clan. There are others who do not accept her as Alpha female and who wish to usurp her status. Bree has to quickly figure out who she can trust, and she has to decide how to win over those that are against her. She really has to rely on her special abilities to help her with this. She also has her soul mate Stephen on her mind. Bree still has difficulties with the idea that she is also to be intimate with her male protectors. She has to work on her human feelings in regards to this. It becomes easier as time passes. Meanwhile she continues on her path to fulfilling the prophecy set forth for her.
“Chrysalis: Tribulations” is a wonderful book to have the opportunity to read. I love how Bree’s character is metamorphosing into a powerful Magical being. Her magical gifts such as mind reading and being able to view events that are happening elsewhere, adds to the excitement. Dealing with her attraction to her protectors in her clan also creates an interesting dilemma. She has to step outside of her human values and step into the ones accepted by her clan. I would say that this issue is definitely not the worst one in the world to deal with! Bree’s story definitely does not end here, and I look forward to seeing where her magical journey takes her in the next book in the series.
M. L. Lacy writes well and her character development is suburb. She draws the reader into the plot, creating a place that makes you feel like you are part of the story in “Chrysalis: Tribulations.” I highly recommend both books in the Chrysalis series

Born a mortal, yet destined to be one of the most powerful of the Chosen Ones, Bree Campbell begins awakening to the truth of who she really is at the age of thirty-two. Her mortal life has been full of pain, and to protect her secret the memories of thirteen years of her life were erased. Escaping from a painfully abusive marriage, Bree begins to reconnect with who she is and discovers that she has a tremendous destiny ahead of her.
Bree has been selected to help save the mortal world by helping repair a rift that exists between it and the magical world. To make matters more difficult she has to help rid the mortal world of demons that have been wrecking havoc while trying to gain control.
Being reunited with people from her past, Bree starts coming into her power. Even as a mortal she discovers that she has acquired some very strong magical abilities. Fearing for her safety, because she is still mortal and there are many that want her dead, a clan of vampires comes to Bree’s aid and select her to be a part of them. Included in this clan is Bree’s forgotten love Steve. Bree has to deal with regaining her lost memories and her transformation. She also has to figure out who she can trust as her metamorphosis begins so that she can stay alive.
M.L. Lacy has written a powerful fantasy novel with “Chrysalis: The Awakening.” Incorporating a variety of magical elements into her story makes it a very enjoyable escape. Underlying the drama of having to save the world, there is also a deeper theme for the heroine. Bree’s human experiences have taught her to value her humanity. Even as she is beginning the process of becoming a very powerful immortal, a Chosen One, Bree still has to reconcile her human values with her new understanding of immortal values. I found this aspect of the story to be extremely interesting and well written. I truly enjoyed this novel and highly recommend it. I look forward to reading the continuing series.

"Chrysalis - The Awakening” by M.L. Lacy is one of the best novels I have read in quite a while. In this Book 1 version of "Chrysalis -The Awakening," Lacy brings to life the coming together of Magicals, Vampires and even a few Werewolves. The Magicals are a lovely, enchanting mixture of sorceresses and humans. There are Traditional Vampires, who are your blood sucking, human killing Vampires. Then there is what I would call the good Vampires. These Vampires are the protectors of the Chosen One and have been in all of Bree Campbell's mortal life. They crave blood just as the Traditionals, however, they choose not to kill humans to get what they desire, and have ways of getting blood from a different source. They drink their blood in glasses just as humans would drink water. I was delighted to meet all sides of the characters in this story.
Aubrey Marie - Bree - The Chosen One. Bree is the last, and the greatest, in a long line of Chosen Ones. She was chosen before her birth to become leader of this world. Bree was to transform from human to full Magical, Sorceress, and Leader, at an earlier time. But because of one evil person, Esmeralda, a powerful Sorceress who wants to rid the world of humans, threatens Bree’s family with terrible things if they don’t keep her lover, Steven, who is a clan member and Bree’s long lost love, away from her. Unknown to Bree, she has always been protected by her clan. But Bree takes a different path, marries an evil man, and begins a horrible life of beatings and mental abuse. Bree’s memory of her clan, her lover, and everything she is supposed to become is taken from her so that she doesn’t remember until the time is right. After Bree finally rids herself of this brutal man, her husband, she finds her way back to where she belongs. Bree’s newly acquired family is counting on her to save the world, but is she strong enough, wise enough, and clever enough, to rid the world of evil, or will Esmeralda bring her down and rid the world of all humans?
Lacy did a terrific job with "Chrysalis - The Awakening." She has chosen her characters well, and brought them all to life for us in this novel. Once I started reading, I just could not put the book down! I am so looking forward to Book Two if she so chooses to write it. I hope I am one of the first to get it and read about the continuing story of Bree, her clan and their Magical World. I recommend this novel to adults and young adults of all genders. The story is just magnificent. I may even read it all over again! Thank you for writing this novel for the readers who will really enjoy the story. I am looking forward to more of your writings!

“She was back with Steven, her true love, and her soul mate. She was even made Alpha Female of the clan of vampires, a clan that had protected her all of her mortal life. She smiled when her thoughts reminded her of them. Her world was changing rapidly as she learned their ways. The Magical Realm’s view of life was so very different than her mortal world and she was still mortal. Her crossing into this Realm was still many, many months away; she still had time to adjust. Her clan was giving her the time she needed to come to terms with how her life would be once that crossing was complete.” (p. vii) So begins M. L. Lacy’s newest addition to her Chrysalis series of books.
I have not read the first book, “Chrysalis: The Awakening” that lays the groundwork for this second novel in the Chrysalis series, “Chrysalis: Tribulations.” I attempted to read this current book with no background information on the first volume hoping everything would fall into place, but found that I needed to go back and look at a synopsis of the first book in order for everything to become clear. Therefore, I would recommend reading the books in the order that they are meant to be read in order to fully enjoy the series.
With that being said, once I familiarized myself with the many different players in Lacy’s fantasy world, I found the world that she created to be very creative and enjoyed reading about it. The characters which she has developed are unique and memorable, especially the main character Bree. The story surrounding Bree is a fascinating one and a great premise for a book.
This 448 page novel is packed full of action, adventure, friendship, and romance and I recommend it to anyone looking for a new author in the fantasy genre. As stated above, I urge you to read the first novel in the series first to fully comprehend this second book, but if you must make do with reading a summary that will most likely be sufficient. “Chrysalis: Tribulations” is a very engaging and attention-grabbing book and I look forward to reading more about Bree in the future!
