Interview with YA author Jan Clark

Jan's Bio:

Janice Clark shares a house and mini-farm with her brother in rural western Washington, where the fog spilling over the coastal hills could easily hide dragons[image error] and other mystical creatures. When she isn't making jam or chasing the local deer out of the garden, she writes fantasy stories for children (and adults who haven't lost their sense of wonder).

When did the writing bug bite and in what genre(s)?

I began writing stories and poetry almost as soon as I learned to write....

New Tunnel Vision Review

From Nanci Arvizu:

Hank knows how to take the every day ordinary and twist it into a parallel universe of you-never-know-that-could-be sense of humor that keeps me hooked.

Tunnel Vision is a collection of Hank's short stories, which make it easy to pick up on an e-reader (I use my Black Berry) and read a story during any "wait time". But be careful where you read; you could find yourself laughing out loud.[image error]

My favorite of the bunch – Practical Experience. When I was younger I wanted to be an...

Daytime TV: A valuable addition to your writer's toolbox

Fiction writers need all the tools they can find, but over time, these tools can become dull and rusty.  When this happens to me, I turn to daytime TV.  These programs are bashed by critics and viewers, but I have a different spin on these show; I find them, especially the soaps, to be very educational.  I write Science Fiction and Fantasy fiction and an exposure to the these programs improves and sharpens my writing skills.  How?  By providing vivid demonstrations of what happens when a...

Worlds Series Poll

How many of you know the Yankees will win?

How many of you know the Phillies will win?

How many of you hope the northeast part of the country gets hit by an unexpected blizzard and the worst winter in recorded history so the World Series can 't be completed until next March?

World Series and New Jersey

Now that the World Series opponents have been determined, the importance of New Jersey's geographical location becomes apparent.  New Jersey forms a hundred mile buffer zone between the Yankee fans and the Philies fans.  Without New Jersey, these fans would be rubbing elbows (and dodging knuckles).  Without New Jersey, emergency rooms in hospitals would be overloaded with injured fans of both clubs.

If you would like to thank New Jersey for performing this valuable, civic-minded public...

Bluffing Mr. Churchill by John Lawton

In 1941, before the United States became involved in the war, Captain Cal Cormack is a army captain stationed in Zurich.  His entire role is to handle a spy named Stahl who has risen in the Nazi hierarchy to a top-level position.  Cal is dismayed to read a German newspaper describing the state funeral given to his spy.  At a subsequent meeting with British intelligent agent, Cal is stunned to learn the British know about his spy and that the British are convinced his cover was blown and he...

Interview with Peadar Ó Guilín

Today, it is my pleasure to interview my friend and fellow author Peadar Ó Guilín.

Hank: Can you give us a brief bio?

Peadar: I'm Irish and I don't drink. This is probably briefer than you were after, but you should be able to extrapolate quite a lot from there!                                                          [image error]

Hank: When the writing bug bite and in what genre(s)?

Peadar: The bug bit me very young — around the age of five. I wrote several Tolkien rip-offs in school and a small number...
