Homemade Peppermint Ice Cream

That doesn't even have propylene glycol in it! (I mean, YOWSA.)

Holly's Homemade Peppermint Ice Cream
(even better than the peppermint cookies, I humbly submit)

1 quart half-n-half
1/3 c sugar
2 Tb cornstarch
3/4 c crushed peppermint
1 tsp peppermint extract
red food coloring (optional)

Whisk first three ingredients in pan and bring to boil. Add crushed peppermint. Whisk until foams and thickens. Remove from heat and add 1 tsp peppermint extract. Cool. Freeze in ice cream maker (I use my awesome Cusi...

As you may have noticed, the blog and website are undergoing a makeover (courtesy of my sweetheart - thank you, honey!).

The biggest change is the merging of the blog and website, and elimination of the brimstonesoup blogspot url (the old address now forwards to www.hollycupala.com). Plus now I have an Events page! A Books page! More secrets than ever before!

What do you think? I would love to hear any feedback as we make the final tweaks to the new site.

Aussie Christmas Cake from Chris Cheng

You may not be celebrating the holidays down under, but Chris Cheng, distinguished recipient of the Lady Cutler Award for services to children's literature, author of 60 Classic Australian Poems, The Melting Pot and many other books for children, and all-around excellent fellow, is here to share his famous (infamous?) Peppermint Cookies Honored by SCBWI

Ok, so that sounds a little inflated, but my Peppermint Snowball Cookies were First Runner-Up in the SCBWI WWA Annual Cookie Contest! Woohoo! The competition was heated -who could beat out the first-place winner, Whoopie Pies from Chadwick? Most Creative Cookie went to these gorgeous ones hand-illustrated by Lida Enche.

Of course, the best part about last night was getting to hear YA superstars Lisa Schroeder and Liz Gallagher talk about their paths to publication as well as voice lessons fro...
