Gonna be a great weekend...

...because tomorrow I'm heading to a friend's with a pile of books I've read and she hasn't, to swap with her for books she's read that I haven't.

So this will be my weekend:

Awww, yeah. :-)

Reading really does make you smarter...

...and not non-fiction, either. Reading novels makes you smarter. Not just while you're reading, but for days after.

Science proved it.

Those well-meaning people who told me that staying inside to read while everyone else played outside was bad for me -- I knew you were wrong. :P

Thank you, Science!

Happy New Year...

...and remember that 2 + 0 + 1 + 4 equals 7.

There is nothing significant about that whatsoever. But I still wish you a significant 2014. :-)

Book trailers...

...does anyone like them?

Are they interesting / entertaining? Or do they just make you groan and roll your eyes?

I'm thinking of doing one just for fun...

...but I've noticed that they aren't like other videos. I can go on YouTube and watch a movie trailer, or a cat video, or a Buzzfeed video, or an Ellen clip, or an old Family Feud bit (LOVE me some Richard Dawson), and suddenly it's hours later and I've somehow started watching auto-tuned NASCAR prayers.

On the other hand, I watch a book trailer (even on YouTube) and kind of think, "Hm. That was a book trailer." Then I'm done and I don't want to watch any more of them.

Yet everyone seems to be making them...

Maybe I'll just post a video of one of my cats reading one of my books. :P

Happy holidays...

...whatever you happen to celebrate! May you have good friends, great food, and a fantastic time.

Also, here's a super easy recipe for fudge that works every time.

ENGINEER FUDGE

1 12-oz bag chocolate chips
1 can sweetened condensed milk
2 tbsp butter (NOT margarine)

-Open can of sweetened condensed milk and set aside

-Place chocolate chips and butter in a medium-ish microwave-safe bowl

-Heat for 30 seconds; stir

-Heat another 30 seconds; stir

-Continue heating 30 seconds and stirring until smooth (usually 3 rounds)

-Pour in sweetened condensed milk and stir until blended

-If there are small non-melted chocolate bits or uneven-ness, heat mixture in microwave for 30 seconds and stir again

-Pour into 8 x 8 pan and refrigerate until firm

Delicious! You can also use other types of chips (make sure you have 12 oz; some flavored chips come with less than 12 oz in a bag), or add flavoring like mint extract, almond extract, or butter flavoring.

This recipe is really easy and tastes really good. You can give this fudge as a gift and not tell people how easy it is, and let them be amazed at your mad fudge skillz. :-)
