A New Role Model

It's nice to see the issue of body image back in the news…and in a positive way.  My daughter's favourite singer, multiple Grammy winner Adele, speaks out on feeling good about her body and her responsibility as a role model for her young fans.

Book Signing

Book signing

I had my first "real" book signing in Toronto at the Ontario Library Association conference this about this time last year. I remember how afraid I was that I would sit there for half an hour with no one to talk to!  You can imagine my excitement when an actual lineup of readers, holding my novel, appeared looking for my signature. It was a great start to this incredible literary journey that I'm on!  Next stop, virtual book tour…now all I have to do is learn how to useSkype….

Too young?

Body image issues seem to be starting at younger and younger ages.  Beauty pageants for very young children are a growing industry.  As a mom, I find it hard to watch anything to do with beauty pageants for young children (or any pageants for that matter).  This blog post is one person's opinion about this issue.   http://www.rte.ie/ten/2011/0411/blog_tv_tvwatch.html

Are beauty pageants dangerous for young children…both the participants and those who can now watch it on TV?

Book Signing

I had my first "real" book signing in Toronto at the Ontario Library Association conference this month. I was afraid I would sit there for half an hour with no one to talk to! Imagine my excitement when an actual lineup of readers, holding my novel, appeared looking for my signature. It was a lovely experience, and hopefully only the first.

Fostergirls ready to go!

Hi
I just finished my final edit of the proof pages for Fostergirls. Now I just sit back and wait for it to become a reality. I saw the cover design and really love it. The model used looks exactly like my mental image of Sadie, the lead character. I even have my first book signing scheduled in Toronto for February...which will probably be when I see it for the first time!

Hats off to the the Editors

Almost finished the first round of editing on the new novel (coming out Fall 2011) and I have to send out a message of appreciation to editors. My editor, Alison, has been an amazing partner in this process. Her instincts are terrific and she finds ways to make me discover new aspects of my characters and my story. It's been fun working on this together...it's as if we both know the characters in the book personally and are working together to tell their story in the best possible way.
