In which we are introduced

YNGuess009.jpg

You love reading and listening to stories (you always have, for as long as you can remember). You have old favourites (Charlotte's Web, anyone?) and enjoy discovering the new. You regret the amount of screen time we all have - especially our children - yet feel helpless to do anything about it. What will happen when the children of today become the adults of tomorrow? you wonder. Will anyone still be reading for pleasure?

You want to do something about it, inspire your kids - but you’re unsure where to start. So you head to your local bookshop. Faced with the spines of such an array of picture books, you feel overwhelmed. You pull a few out at random, but they’re wedged in so tightly that’s it’s impossible to replace them. So you leave before finding Something Special for someone you love.

Relatable? Then my blog might be for you. Part memoir; part commentary; part review by an industry insider. Aimed squarely at book lovers with a special interest in children’s literature and supporting reading for pleasure.

To quote a Bear of Very Little Brain - “It isn’t much good having anything exciting, if you can’t share it with somebody.”

Welcome to My Life in Books.

Where The Heck Are Chalk & Cheese?

Regular followers of C&C may well be asking themselves, Where the heck are Chalk & Cheese? The answer, my friends, is on the back burner. I was finding it increasingly difficult to justify the time involved in developing the strip - in fact, it had become, at times, another work pressure (and one that didn't pay to boot!)

So it is with great personal regret that I have decided to stop the strip, at least for the time being. This allows me to prioritise my family and develop other projects - I am currently writing some picture book texts, as well as illustrating.

But fear not! I'm sure this won't be the last you'll hear from such an opinionated mouse as Cheese. There's far too much interesting stuff he could say about sasquatch and okapis, and don't even get him started on ducks! Besides, we haven't heard enough from Count Crepuscular...

In the meantime, thanks for being part of the journey!

Imaginary Friends (rpt.)

I'm taking some time out from C&C to get on top of some admin like website update and to spend time with my family. So you'll just have to wait and see where the urban yeti/sasquatch story line takes us...

Anyway, here's a repeat of one of my very early strips about Bloggy, and I still love it (which reminds me, I'd better write him back in soon)! Cheese really makes me laugh - there's no logic like Cheese logic.

Here's the rough layout where you can see my last minute editing:

Here Yeti, Yeti, Yetis.....

This week's strip was inspired by the following conversation at breakfast with my son, which I scribbled down in my notebook.
That sparked off this idea:

which became today's comic, and tied in a couple of recurring C&C themes nicely - yetis and squirrels!
