GLAAD releases statement announcing organization's return to neutral stance on AT&T/T-Mobile Merger
GLAAD Returns to Neutral Stance on AT&T/T-Mobile Merger Organization Affirms Strong Support for Net Neutrality to FCC
July 13, 2011, New York, NY – The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) today submitted a letter to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to withdraw its support for the pending AT&T merger with T-Mobile and to return the organization to a neutral position with respect to the deal. GLAAD also submitted to the FCC, in the same letter, a statement strongly supporting the tenets of net neutrality. Today's letter was filed by Mike Thompson, GLAAD's Acting President following extensive discussion among GLAAD leadership and supporters.
"A rigorous review process considered GLAAD's unique mission and concluded that while AT&T has a strong record of support for the LGBT community, the explanation used to support this particular merger was not sufficiently consistent with GLAAD's work to advocate for positive and culture-changing LGBT stories and images in the media," said Thompson.
In affirming GLAAD's support for the principle of net neutrality, Thompson wrote in the FCC letter: "GLAAD is a strong supporter of the general principle of net neutrality. Although this letter is not specific to any proposed or existing regulatory or legislative standards, we acknowledge that net neutrality is one of the principles most responsible for the Internet's emergence as the dominant platform for free expression. A nondiscriminatory and neutral Internet has allowed new digital media initiatives and the blogosphere itself to flourish online. Net neutrality has cultivated the plethora of online resources available to otherwise isolated LGBT Americans seeking help with coming out, coping with and countering discrimination, suicide and HIV/AIDS prevention resources, community building and political organizing tools, and general self-expression. GLAAD's own work has been effective thanks in large part to net neutrality."
Thompson and GLAAD's Board of Directors pledged commitment to GLAAD's mission as they form an Executive Search Committee to identify a new President. "In just the past few weeks, GLAAD's Media Programs team has continued to move Americans through sharing powerful stories- from African American pastors who support marriage equality in the New York Daily News to prompting professional baseball teams to take a stand against anti-gay and transgender attitudes to demanding action from Jose Luis sin Censura, the most anti-gay show on Spanish-language television," Thompson said. "It is GLAAD's work on the ground with local organizations and behind-the-scenes with national and local media that will continue to grow support for our community's equality."

Tony Varona, a GLAAD board member, chair of the board’s public policy committee, an American University law professor and occasional guest legal blogger for the Blend gave his perspective to me via email:
“GLAAD’s acting president, Mike Thompson, reached out to the board of directors before finalizing his letter to the FCC withdrawing GLAAD’s endorsement of the AT&T/T-Mobile merger application and clarifying our position on net neutrality. The board was in full support of his letter. A number of GLAAD’s allies and partners have submitted letters to the FCC advancing arguments in favor of AT&T’s proposed merger with T-Mobile that are rooted in their respective missions. A review of the various issues at stake made clear that GLAAD’s initial filing in the matter did not articulate an adequate and convincing link to our own mission. Having written and spoken strongly in favor of net neutrality in my work as a communications law scholar, I am confident that Mike made the right decision both in withdrawing GLAAD’s endorsement of the AT&T merger application and in affirming our support of general net neutrality principles. We owe the success of much of the LGBT movement’s and GLAAD’s own work to a neutral and nondiscriminatory Internet – one that has disallowed the creation of premium-priced “fast lanes” for certain content and services, relegating to a low-quality “slow lane” not-for-profit content and services that are vital to our community’s survival and quest for full equality.”
Trump Gets Dumped
A follow-up to Pam's post on Monday taking Oyster.com's blog to task for recommending a Donald Trump-owned Hotel for out of town LGBT couples looking to spend a same-sex honeymoon in the Big Apple.
Recall, during his flirtation with a Presidential run, Donald Trump expressed his opposition to same-sex marriage and, unsurprisingly not in a way that could be described as nuanced or sensitive.
Given Trump's overall history of misogyny, racism and homophobia, Pam was right to protest. The LGBT community can certainly find better places to spend their money than to give our gay dollars to that man.
I wrote Oysterblog and told them I thought they'd made a big mistake, and they'd do well to take that recommendation off of their list. Today, I received a very nice and thoughtful reply and apology from their customer relations person:
Hi Scott,
Thank you so much for writing to us regarding the Trump recommendation! We certainly apologize and we have fixed our list in order to reflect the change.
We hope that you visit us in the future for your next booking, and again we appreciate you taking the time to write to us and give us your feedback.
All my best,
Lisa
Sometimes it really is only necessary to draw people's attention to their mistakes. People are only human, after all. The Trump Hotel recommendation has, indeed, been removed from their list.
Thank you, Oyster.com and Lisa, appreciate your prompt attention and response, which reflects very well on your company's values.
Blast from Bachmann's past: 'It's part of Satan, I think, to say this is gay'
My buddy Jeremy of Good As You dug up a great example of her decidedly fierce anti-gay bloviating, originally posted in its full, one-hour glory, over at the Dump Bachmann blog. The transcript is below the fold.
Bachmann:
“And I think something that was meant for evil was meant for good, and I think we can see that again today. Well there's something that's happening in our schools, and one of the reasons why I felt I was called to take up this issue, of bringing a constitutional amendment to the state of Minnesota before our people—I was the chief author in the MN state senate—is because of the profound impact this would have on every man, every woman, every child in the state of Minnesota. Because everyone thought this would only impact the 1.3 percent of our population that is a same-sex individual -- and again, don’t misunderstand. I am not here bashing people who are homosexuals, who are lesbians, who are bisexual, who are transgendered. We need to have profound compassion for the people who are dealing with the very real issue of sexual dysfunction in their life, and sexual identity disorders. This is a very real issue. It’s not funny, it’s sad. Any of you who have members of your family that are in the lifestyle—we have a member of our family that is. This is not funny. It’s a very sad life. It’s part of Satan, I think, to say this is gay. It’s anything but gay. And so we are not here tonight -- in fact, I wish this whole room was filled with the fay community -- because we'd reach our hand out in love.
The Love Won Out conference was here not too long ago in the Twin Cities, and it’s profoundly sad to recognize that almost all, if not all, individuals who have gone into the lifestyle have been abused at one time in their life, either by a male or by a female. There’s been profound hurt and profound things that have happened in almost all of their lives. And this gives us great compassion. So this is not to talk about gay bashing -- do we understand that? That is not what this is about. But it's to say that this new legal enforcement of a new status—homosexuality, lesbianism, bringing it into the mainstream, if you will, giving it a legitimacy if you will -- that will impact not only the gay community, but every man, woman and child, particularly the schools."
'Interfaith' website lies about SPLC and its hate group designations
crossposted on Holy Bullies and Headless Monsters
An "interfaith" site, Beliefnet, has weighed in on the controversy regarding the Southern Poverty Law Center and its labeling of several religious right groups as anti-gay hate groups. But the site is very deceptive in terms of what it chooses to highlight . . . and omit.
Rob Kerby, Beliefnet's Senior Editor, said the following in an article:
Why would anybody accuse 13 Christian organizations, including the American Family Association and Tony Perkins’ Family Research Council, of practicing “hate?”That's the tone of the article - i.e. SPLC is trying to "silence these groups because they are standing up against the supposed "gay agenda."
. . . Could the intent be to smear and silence some of the most effective Christian ministries in America? To blacken their names because they have dared to speak out in the political battle over same-sex marriage?
When a smear campaign against the Family Research Council began last year, it was immediately denounced by Speaker of the House John Boehner and 150 other national leaders, including 24 members of Congress.
. . . That time the smear was led by the Southern Poverty Law Center, which for years has pursued anti-discrimination cases. It received considerable well-deserved publicity for suing the Ku Klux Klan and other white supremacist groups.
. . . In late December 2010, the center advised the national press to shun 13 Christian groups because they were hate groups. Among the groups smeared were the American Family Association, the Family Research Council and the Traditional Values Coalition. The smaller groups included Abiding Truth Ministries of Springfield, Massachusetts; the Chalcedon Foundation of Vallecito, California; and the Faithful Word Baptist Church of Tempe, Arizona.
Kerby's article omitted several important facts about SPLC's designation of these organizations as hate groups.
The most important fact is that SPLC labeled the Family Research Council and those other organizations as hate groups not because of their so-called Biblical beliefs about homosexuality, but because these groups knowingly spread propaganda and hideous lies about the gay community:
Even as some well-known anti-gay groups like Focus on the Family moderate their views, a hard core of smaller groups, most of them religiously motivated, have continued to pump out demonizing propaganda aimed at homosexuals and other sexual minorities. These groups’ influence reaches far beyond what their size would suggest, because the “facts” they disseminate about homosexuality are often amplified by certain politicians, other groups and even news organizations. Of the 18 groups profiled below, the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) will be listing 13 next year as hate groups (eight were previously listed), reflecting further research into their views; those are each marked with an asterisk. Generally, the SPLC’s listings of these groups is based on their propagation of known falsehoods — claims about LGBT people that have been thoroughly discredited by scientific authorities — and repeated, groundless name-calling. Viewing homosexuality as unbiblical does not qualify organizations for listing as hate groups.
This propaganda includes such claims as:
Homosexuals molest children at far higher rates than heterosexuals.
Same-sex parents harm children.
People become homosexual because they were sexually abused as children or there was a deficiency in sex-role modeling by their parents.
Homosexuals don’t live nearly as long as heterosexuals.
Homosexuals controlled the Nazi Party and helped to orchestrate the Holocaust.
All of these claims have been debunked as lies, but FRC and other religious right groups keep repeating them as truth. And why? Because they are able to hide these lies behind the claim that they are merely standing on the Biblical belief that homosexuality is a sin.
And they are aided and abetted by one-sided, puff pieces put out by sites like Beliefnet, a site which should have known better.
I would sincerely hope that the way Kerby, who claims to be a Christian, wrote this piece is an indication of being overworked. Because if this isn't the case, the other alternative has to be that Kerby is intentionally deceiving his readers by not giving them the full story.
And that would be most un-Christian

Discredited NARTH approved by CA body to give continuing ed credits to psychologists, therapists
I am a Licensed Educational Psychologist here in Los Angeles. The California Board of Behavioral Sciences is responsible for licensing LEPs, MFTs, and LCSWs here in California. I was recently looking at BBS website in order to determine which organizations I could obtain my continuing education credits from in order to renew my license. Much to my shock and sadness, the BBS accepts CEUs from NARTH. I am absolutely appalled. No therapist in California should be able to renew their license by obtaining CEUs from this hateful organization. "Homosexual conversion therapy" is not supported by the American Psychiatric Association, the American Psychological Association, or the American Counselors Association. I have written the the BBS with my concerns, but I have not heard back. Could you help me bring attention to this issue? We need to get them removed from this list ASAP. I am including some links to NARTH and the BBS below. The continuing education provider list is here. NARTH is number 1240 on the list:
Karen Ocamb of LGBTPOV got Doyon to go on the record:
Ironically, this comes just the mainstream media is widely reporting on the Truth Wins Out investigation that exposed Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann and her husband Marcus of running an “ex-gay” or “reparative therapy” clinic to “pray away the gay” – and they received Medicare funding to do this discredited work. Of course, Religious Right groups such as Americans for Truth (which the Southern Poverty Law Center declared a “hate group”) calls the reporting by ABC News’ investigative reporter Brian Ross a “hit piece” and asked: “Shouldn’t it have occurred to Ross to sit down with and interview a SUCCESSFUL former homosexual like Janet Boynes.”
...The BBS and the state of California should not be supporting NARTH’s attempt to promulgate their unethical, pseudo-scientific “therapy.” Their pseudo-science has not been published in any legitimate peer reviewed journals and is limited to anecdotes from those claiming to be “cured.” Rightfully, homosexuality was removed from the DSM in 1973, as the psychological and medical community longer considered it to be a mental disorder. Simply put, homosexuality should not be pathologized, as homosexuals do not require treatment for their same sex attractions. Conversion therapy is not supported by the American Academy of Pediatrics, American Psychiatric Association, the American Psychological Association, or the American Counseling Association.
... Doyon says she has written to the Board of Behavioral Sciences but has not yet filed a formal complaint. There is a Change.org petition campaign to have NARTH removed from the list of accredited providers. Sign it here: http://www.change.org/petitions/ex-gay-therapy-kills-stop-accrediting-narth.

Your Presidential Campaign Might Be In Trouble...
"in no uncertain terms, Congresswoman Bachmann believes that slavery was horrible."
Well, that's a progressive attitude, Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann.
For 1862.
I would have thought that goes without saying in 2011. But maybe we run in different crowds.
Is this a harbinger of a new campaign theme?
Bachmann 2012!
You Can Trust Her With The Emancipation Proclamation! No. Really. You can.
Is the Congresswoman now prepared to state in no uncertain terms whether or not she is a witch?

Amazing Shift In Party Attitudes On Marriage Equality.
National Journal regularly publishes surveys on issues it calls "Insider Surveys." This month's survey is on the issue of "gay marriage" (the term they use, many people prefer the term marriage equality).
The results show an absolutely astonishing shift in attitudes on the issue, for both the Democratic and Republican party "insiders" surveyed. It is 207 people, and to be clear it is not a scientific survey that is in any way representative of the population at large. To the contrary, it is heavily weighted by politicos. They explain the respondents:
The National Journal Political Insiders Poll is a regular survey of political operatives, strategists, campaign consultants and lobbyists in both parties.
In some ways this may be more indicative of the future than mere popular polling. To earn the title of being deemed an "insider" by the National Journal it is probably fair to say one must be an opinion leader and have some sway in a not insignificant spheres of power and/or thought. The survey contrasts changes in responses between April 2009, the last time they asked, and the most recent one, July 2010. This is a mere 27 months.
Of course, it is also a 27 month period that saw Federal Court repudiations of Prop 8, several of the Defense Marriage Act, a 180-degree turnaround in the Justice Department's stance on the issue, legislative vote to allow repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," a Federal Court strike down of DADT, and Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo's resounding victory on this issue in New York (made possible by Republicans acquiescing to give it to him).
Also, national polling turned a corner and now shows opponents are indisputably in the minority, and the polling is only going one way.
The changes from the "Insiders" are remarkable, for not only the Democratic responses (102 people) but also for the Republicans (105). The respondents to the survery are actually named at the source, which include some marquee names (Dana Perino, Janet Napolitano, Alex Castellanos, Peter Daou, Mike Murphy, Harold Ickes) but many more that are less familiar. Their specific responses are not provided, and the quotes are anonymous.
First, a look at the respondents who identify themselves as Democrats:
Look at that swing: a 25 point uptick in Democrats expressing their support, in just 27 months. From a super-majority to realistically about as close to unanimity as one is likely to see on any issue in politics.
The GOP has not swung significantly toward support, but respondents do seem to be indicating a desire to retreat—rather than double down—on the fight:
Republicans are showing a 20 point shift in the hardline opposition. Where'd they go? Mostly not to support (which did uptick 6%), but rather, to "Avoid the issue." One Republican who is himself described as opposed to "gay marriage" is quoting as saying,
"State the position and move on. Do not make it the focal point."
"Avoid the issue?" "Do not make it a focal point?
WTF?!?!
But? But? Hasn't the right wing been telling us gay marriage will lead to "anarchy," "gulags", "the tyranny of the majority", "the end of the world," and as Catholic leaders have warned, will make the United States exactly like "China and North Korea?"
How can they abandon a fight with consequences that dire?
Perhaps it's that a look at the cross-tabs of the polls shows that 15+ years into the debate, most swing voters and independents have rejected the most deranged, hysterical, hyperbole coming out of the far right on the subject. In fact, more and more and more they are siding with those radical, activist homosexuals, as multiple majority opinion polls are showing.
In fact, even the craziest of the crazy can read the writing on the wall. Jim Daly, president of the far-right social issues group Focus on the Family discussed marriage equality in May saying:
"We're losing on that one, especially among the 20- and 30-somethings: 65 to 70 percent of them favor same-sex marriage. I don't know if that's going to change with a little more age — demographers would say probably not. We've probably lost that. I don't want to be extremist here, but I think we need to start calculating where we are in the culture."
When a group who's made their entire business model out of manufacturing homophobia starts talking about coming up with a Plan B, you know a sea change has occurred.
All this points to a bit of a puzzle I myself have been trying to solve. The elaborate rhetorical gymnastics the administration is performing of late seem to confirm that not actively engaging this issue is the preferred plan of attack from the Democratic Party leader heading into 2012 election season.
This reflects a conventional wisdom often expressed that "Democrats don't want elections to be all about the gays, for heavens sake!" Everyone knows gay issues are electoral kryptonite, right?
But how to square the conventional wisdom with what's actually going on?
Because there seems to be some significant internal dissent in the Democratic Party itself about how front and center to be on this issue as election time rolls around. Many influential Democrats in the Senate seem OK with heading straight into 2012 armed with a high-profile push for repeal the Defense of Marriage Act as a front burner cause. They are clearly using the power of their offices to make this issue a focal point, enthusiastically talking to the press..
Senator Leahy of Vermont (right) didn't get the "duck the gay marriage" memo either, apparently. Thursday his office announced the Senate will be holding DOMA hearings to put the issue of marriage equality front and center of the American public. Suffice it to say the progressive and LGBT media will be happy to clip the video and transcripts and distribute the content far and wide. Undoubtedly, so will the far right. After Prop 8 verdict, the Justice Department's remarkable shift on DOMA, and New York's marriage equality victory, I think we can expect to see significant popular interest in this story.
The clue to what is going on is apparently some Democrats see an opportunity here, from the Journal:
Democrats also felt that support for gay marriage would solidify the party's grip on younger voters. "It's this generation's civil rights movement," exclaimed one Democratic Insider. "It's a huge demographic opportunity for Democrats because almost every voter under 30 supports it," said another."This is not conjecture or wishful thinking but can be observed in the crosstabs of every credible poll taken on the issue. This is also the reason so many, like the Vice President, have concluded marriage equality is "inevitable." Where Democrats see gain, the Republicans see their own vulnerability:
"Huge issue with young voters we need," asserted one GOP Insider who said the party should support gay marriage. "Only idiots fight demography."
It may take a while for these insiders in the GOP to influence their party. The Republicans continue to mount quixotic grandstanding stunts on the issue. They are doing what the GOP does best, tossing red meat to the base. GOP Presidential candidates too have been gleefully feeding the Religious Right base they need to snag the nomination. But, none of these politicians are likely impressing anyone who wouldn't be already inclined to vote Republican, not "socialist!"
Increasingly Democrats are really rising, not shying from this fight. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo found championing the issue of marriage equality was a pretty effective way to prompt the press to pair the number "2016" with his name. Many suspect that was his aim all along. Mission accomplished.
In engaging this fight, Democrats, too, are serving up a slice of red meat to their own progressive base. But, unlike the Republicans, exploiting their base's instincts for equality and justice offers little risk of alienating the middle and voters who might otherwise lean left. This is a trend that shows no danger of reversing in any of our lifetimes.
It's clear this issue is fast heading for its day of reckoning. It's also clear which party is fast scrambling to be on the right side of history, and which party has found they've painted themselves into a corner.
Rick Perry's BFF 'Apostle says blacks supporting LGBT equality will be punished by God
You have to read the rest; it's completely batsh*t. Let's hope more people like Wooten get time behind the mic at the GOP National Convention.
A critic of gay rights, Wooten has compared being gay to polygamy and incest and argued that "homosexual marriage is not a civil rights issue; it's a moral issue. It is a deviant type of behavior and lifestyle. How do they do it? It's too nasty." Wooten feverishly works against legislation in Louisiana that would grant gay and lesbian couples legal rights and protect gays and lesbians from employment discrimination and school bullying. Wooten claims that because black legislators have oftentimes proposed such legislation, the black community faces a curse from God.
...In fact, Wooten wrote an entire book about how the African American community is under a curse from God because black leaders have promoted liberalism and the Democratic Party. In Breaking The Curse Off Black America, Wooten blames African American political and religious leaders for crossing God through "immorality," making God punish African Americans, which in turn leads to the curses of "adultery, incest, children from incestuous union, children born out-of-wedlock, destroyed virginity, bestiality, homosexuality, lesbianism." Wooten says that African Americans beget God's punishment by voting for Democratic candidates and tolerating homosexuality, and only through Wooten's brand of ultraconservative politics and spiritual warfare can Black America be redeemed...
The recession wealth gap between white and black households is a canyon
Adds Algernon Austin, director of the Economic Policy Institute's Program on Race, Ethnicity and the Economy: "The recession is not over for black folks."
In 2004, the median net worth of white households was $134,280, compared with $13,450 for black households, according to an analysis of Federal Reserve data by the Economic Policy Institute. By 2009, the median net worth for white households had fallen 24 percent to $97,860; the median net worth for black households had fallen 83 percent to $2,170, according to the institute.
Austin described the wealth gap this way: "In 2009, for every dollar of wealth the average white household had, black households only had two cents."
At this point it isn't a matter of "we need to fix this." The black middle class, a demographic that had grown over the decades, is being crushed by job loss and disproportional foreclosure rates. Austin remarked that once-stable jobs in areas of state and local government (these sectors have an over-representation of minorities, percentage-wise) have been targeted to deal with massive budget crises. And these numbers cut across class:
Since the end of the recession, which lasted from 2007 to 2009, the overall unemployment rate has fallen from 9.4 to 9.1 percent, while the black unemployment rate has risen from 14.7 to 16.2 percent, according to the Department of Labor. Last April, black male unemployment hit the highest rate since the government began keeping track in 1972. Only 56.9 percent of black men over 20 were working, compared with 68.1 percent of white men.And that foreclosure rate of 8% for blacks (compared to 4.5% for whites), to a high level of competition for the few "good jobs" that are opening up, and it's likely this level of disproportionate economic crisis will hang on for some years to come.
Even college-educated blacks fared worse than their white counterparts in the recession. In 2007, unemployment for college-educated whites was 1.8 percent; for college-educated blacks it was 2.7 percent. Now, the college-educated unemployment rate is 3.9 percent for whites and 7 percent for blacks.
We are all going to be paying for Bush's reign of economic terror for a long time. No matter who occupies the White House or which party is in charge on the Hill, this mess will be laid at the doorstep of every politician down to the state level. There's no easy fix, and if you're the person without a job, regardless of color, you're desperate for an answer. And if these folks flip the TV on, all they see is bickering.
NOM begins astroturfed campaign against marriage equality in NY
crossposted on Holy Bullies and Headless Monsters
Under the guise of "the people have been denied the right to vote," the National Organization for Marriage is launching a campaign to yank marriage equality away from New York.NOM President Brian Brown sent out this letter:
I've got really exciting news to announce to you this week: a new coalition, a new plan, a rebuilt PAC. And here's the most exciting news: a huge multi-city series of rallies and protest marches taking place across the state of New York to win a vote to protect marriage in New York's constitution!
Let the People Vote!
Save the date: Sunday, July 24, 3 p.m. Go here to get the practical details. And here's the good news: You can show up to let Albany know you've had enough of the corruption, the backroom deals, the lying, the politics as usual. Let the people vote!
Don't forget to send this link to Let the People Vote to your five best friends, the folks you know who are mad enough not to take this from Republicans and other pols lying down!
We at NOM have promised to raise $2 million to help defeat the politicians who've betrayed marriage in 2012.
The good news is that in our first week alone, hundreds of you sent donations adding up to $40,000 to NOM's NY PAC.
Interesting thing about Brown's letter. While it was extremely sketchy on details of just what NOM's plan will be, he asked for donations at least five times. Talk about your hard sells.
It's always extremely fascinating to me how NOM throws around the hyperbole. In the same letter, Brown labels lone anti-gay marriage Democrat Ruben Diaz as virtuous and heroic in spite of the fact that Diaz acted like a damn fool before the final vote.
But this is what he says about the legislators who voted for marriage equality:
On Sunday July 24 evangelicals, Orthodox Christians, Catholics, and Jews will come together in love all across the state to take back marriage from the politicians who betrayed it.
NOM claims to speak for New Yorkers but the majority of them actually support marriage equality. One would have to ask just who is NOM speaking for. It would seem to me by passing the marriage equality bill, NY legislators did follow the will of the people.
Yet Brown makes them seem like the Hun army during a day of wanton pillaging.
Granted, Brown will say that "opinion polls don't matter," or "the only opinion poll is at the voting booth," or "31 states have voted against gay marriage."
Of course Brown and his fellow NOMbies will omit mentioning the mailers, the robocalls, and the commercials linking marriage equality to the "indoctrination of children" and the deep pockets NOM uses to filter this mess throughout whichever state they are working at time.
Proving yet again that you can scare people to vote anyway you want, provided you have the money.
However, I really question NOM's intelligence here. NY will start issuing licenses on July 24. And I am suspecting that a lot of people are going to be getting them.
I don't think that anything resembling an attempt at a referendum would be smart or politically advantageous to anyone pushing it.
Once people get a taste of ambrosia, they don't go back to scraps so easily.
And starting on July 24, there is going to be a lot of ambrosia eaters in NY.
