This Friday!

I had the best surprise last night! Not only a new cover for my contemporary 1Night Stand story, Sweet Revenge, but a release date too. This Friday!

Um, yeah - that cover's a grabber! If you're familiar with the 1NS series, you know they're always short, usually a lot of fun and generally range from hot to incendiary. Hotter than what I usually write, and often the editors have to prod me to add more.
My nephew actually inspired this story. I was so proud of him for working hard to lose 150 pounds and get in great shape, it seemed like a perfect complement to the topic of bullying. Long-ago bullying, yes, but that type of antagonism stays with a person. And I found it interesting to explore a mature person's view of it, if not an active part, then someone who failed to stand up for another. So Sweet Revenge came together.
Here's the blurb:
Humbled by life and hungry for love…From cheerleader to news anchor to…yoga instructor? After Zoe Golden lost everything she thought was important, she found the inner strength to pursue real happiness. The simple life provides everything she needs—except love. Once, long ago, she met a real man, but her insecurities made her deny her heart’s desires. Can Madame Eve find her a guy like the one who got away?Bruised by rejection and determined to exact revenge…The sculpted, successful owner of a chain of fitness studios, Ty Hardin can have any woman he wants. Fifteen years and 150 pound weight loss, has changed him beyond recognition. Now the girl who crushed his heart teaches yoga in one of his facilities. Not for long. Before he fires her, he wants one night with her. Wants her to know what she missed out on. But will revenge still be as sweet the morning after, or will it leave a bitter aftertaste?Zoe and Ty might just be the best thing that ever happened to each other—if they can avoid doing their worst…
Did I mention it releases this Friday? Woo hoo!

Banned Books Week

It never ceases to amaze me. We've come so far as a society, and yet in many ways still have so far to go.

One obstacle we've yet to overcome is the freedom to read what we choose to read. Many persist in trying to ban books.

I can't say I'm happy to celebrate Banned Books Week, but I am happy to do whatever small part I can to counteract it. If you look at the list of books that others want banned or restricted, you'll find many that help illuminate a way of life - whether individual or cultural. If we can't educate ourselves or our kids about these differences, how can we claim we've educated them at all?

What can you do? Check out the Banned Books Week site to see if there are any local events you can join.

Like the Banned Books Week Facebook page and keep up with what's happening.

Visit the American Library Association's site to view the list of banned or challenged books. And read one.

My giveaway

I'm giving away a print book of Khaled Hosseini's Kite Runner (sorry, U.S. entrants only).

All you need to do to enter is leave a comment about Banned Books Week and your email address.

Good luck, and happy reading!

Hop along

Follow the Banned Books Week blog hop here or below.
Thanks to I Am A Reader Not A Writer and Bookhounds for organizing this blog hop.

Reviews
Cursed, Charmed, Claimed...I'm hooked. September 20, 2013
By Arlie Ann Claimed is the third episode in an inspired and fascinating story concerning a guy cursed centuries ago by the infamous Leonardo Da Vinci, charmed into restoration by his love interest who happens to be a fire mage as well as a scientist and developing sorcerer, and a struggle to defeat enemies who want to control the lovers and society in general. A sexy and exciting read, I'd start with Cursed and plan on a great ride and sigh of contentment once you've finished Claimed. Bruno and Melina, a hot couple I'll not soon forget.

Excerpt

“I love you,” I breathed. “I love you.”“Forever.” Melina’s lips pressed to my skin like raindrops on a thirsty man. I drank them up, but still wanted more. Her limbs quaked.I gently set her on the ground. “We should get back. You need to rest.”“So do you.” She nestled into my side as we strolled and sent me a lopsided smile. “But I’m glad you’re getting your strength back.”“More importantly, my head has cleared. Elda must have tainted the treatments.” It would explain the strange dreams; Elda’s way of muddling my mind so I wouldn’t know what was real and what was imagined. So far, it hadn’t weakened the shield I’d put up to hide my thoughts and power from the Council, but I couldn’t afford even one slip. It would send an undeniable signal that I still lived. Still presented a threat.Melina splayed her hand across my ribs. “I suspected she tried to keep us apart that way.”“You spent a lot of time alone.” No need to phrase it as a question. Much as I’d struggled to stay conscious, I’d managed to remain awake a fraction of our time together. A great unfairness to her.“I did a lot of reading, as you know.” Her casual tone belied her worry.I couldn’t help my past disapproval, but I could offer reassurance. “Yes. Of course. Your studies serve you well.”We reached the cottage, and she faced me. “It’s the only way I know how to protect you. They’ll find you here, won’t they?”“For now, I’ve shielded my thoughts from them. They’ll sense magic in use, however. Most who practice tap into a main source. Those with the greatest power learn to wield it with little effort, and create our own. It’s one way you’ve proven yourself to be a great talent already.”“But I know so little.”“You learn fast. And you command your magic well.”“Teach me to use it better.” Urgency edged her tone. And excitement.I dreaded the responsibility of the task. “I’m not the most patient teacher.”“And I tend to be a hardheaded student.” She linked her arms around my neck. “But we’ll make it work.”She made everything so effortless. Even when I imagined problems between us, she made them disappear. But how long would she grant me such grace?
