Welcome (back) to SEBTS!
Although I am not speaking at the initial chapel this year, I want to welcome both returning and new students to the Spring 2019 semester at SEBTS.
We are glad you are here, and it is my prayer you will have a wonderful and profitable semester.
As you work diligently throughout the semester, may our Lord continually encourage you with His promise of Hebrews 13:5, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Rest and work in the assurance of this precious promise. You can count on it always being true no matter what comes your way!
Blessings! I am so thankful you are here.

All of My Missionary Sermons
I love missionaries.
I love reading missionary biographies.
And I love preaching missionary sermons.
By combining expository preaching with the story of a missionary, we are able to give a tangible, God-glorifying picture of what it means to believe and live out the teachings of Scripture.
Below are all of the sermons, in alphabetical order, that I have preached using missionaries to illustrate Scripture:
Adoniram Judson: Marked for Death! Messengers of Life! Paul’s Powerful Promises Applied Particularly to Those Who Long for the Salvation of the Lost with Insights from the Life and Ministry of Adoniram Judson and the Three Mrs. Judsons – Romans 8:28-39

12 Marks of a Wise and Trustworthy Leader
The Psalms are an endless well from which the Christain can draw out practical ways to live the Christian life. In a recent sermon, I found 12 marks for a wise and trustworthy leader. Here they are:
The man of God will praise the Lord for His goodness (101:1)
The man of God will walk in the way of integrity (101:2)
The man of God will continually acknowledge his utter dependency on the Lord (101:2)
The man of God will guard his heart as he leads his home (101:2)
The man of God will keep his eyes from anything that is worthless (101:3)
The man of God will hate what is wrong and will not let it get a hold of him (101:3)
The man of God will not welcome evil persons into his inner circle (101:4)
The man of God will give no place to slander and gossip (101:5)
The man of God will seek out the humble, not the prideful (101:5)
The man of God will look to surround himself with people who are faithful and have integrity (101:6)
The man of God will have nothing to do with liars and the dishonest (101:7)
The man of God will not grow weary in the battle between good and evil (101:8)
Which one of these do you need to start implementing afresh in your leadership?

The Incarnation of Jesus
I recently wrote an article on “The Incarnation of Jesus” for the new CSB Worldview Study Bible.
In the article, I give six nonnegotiables of the doctrine of the incarnation. Here’s number four:
4. In the incarnation there is no qualification or diminution of either Christ’s deity or his humanity. Each nature retains its own integrity and genuineness. Whatever constitutes God as God, the Son is this in all its fullness (Col 2:9-10). Further, whatever constitutes man as man, Jesus of Nazareth is this in all its fullness. Sin is not needed for humans to be human. It is in Jesus that we see humanity perfectly expressed as God intended. Whereas fallen and sinful humanity lives on a subhuman plane, this is not true of Jesus.
If you would like to read the other five nonnegotiables and the other articles in this amazing Study Bible, there is a hardcover and Kindle version available.
More on the Study Bible:
The CSB Worldview Study Bible features extensive worldview study notes and articles by notable Christian scholars to help Christians better understand the grand narrative and flow of Scripture within the biblical framework from which we are called to view reality and make sense of life and the world. Guided by general editors David S. Dockery and Trevin K. Wax, this Bible is an invaluable resource and study tool that will help you to discuss, defend, and clearly share with others the truth, hope, and practical compatibility of Christianity in everyday life.
