Nangchen Nuns Endowment Distribution

After eight years of fundraising and careful investing of the endowment funds, Pundarika Foundation is now very happy to announce that we are beginning distribution of the funds’ yearly earnings to directly benefit the Nangchen Nuns in early 2013. The earnings (approximately $50,000/year)  will be allocated annually based on the coordinated effort of Tsoknyi Rinpoche and his senior nuns and target those projects that are most urgently needed in the 26 nunneries in Nangchen in the Kham region of Eastern Tibet.  Even though these distributions will begin in early 2013, they barely touch the real need of these noble practitioners who set a shining example for us all. These funds will provide for basics needed such as medicine, food, putting in wells for a reliable water source, emergency transportation and repair of existing structures.  For those of you who have generously chosen to help the nuns and feel a strong connection, your continuing contributions are very much needed and welcome to support these extraordinary practitioners.

Rinpoche also has a new project for young nuns at Chobar, outside of Kathmandu, Nepal, as well. Excellent information describing the 80 plus young nuns is available at: http://tsoknyinepalnuns.org/  through the International Friends of the Tsoknyi Lineage Nepal Nuns.

Approximately 300 people turned out for Rinpoche’s book talk on a very warm evening with the smell of smoke from multiple wildfires. Rinpoche emphasized the importance of clearly distinguishing our ego, feeling and cognitive functions as a practice to heal our subtle bodies to recover essence love, our basic birthright as a human being.

Changing Hands Bookstore: Tempe, AZ 7/2/12

On a very hot 102 degree day in Tempe, Rinpoche gave a large evening audience – around 125 people – an inspiring and lively talk on his book, Open Heart, Open Mind. The audience enjoyed Rinpoche’s humor and stories very much (a lot of laughter and delight) and his sage advice on how to separate out and understand our feelings from our thinking and our ego in order to uncover the obscurations to our deepest nature or essence love.

This was the last stop on the almost 3-month long book tour across the U.S. sponsored by Crown Books with approximately 4,000 books sold to date, 30 book talks across the country, and contact with over 3,500 people in the various audiences, numerous book interviews, podcasts, articles in the Huffington Post and other journals and very little time to rest! Rinpoche returns to Nepal today via Delhi (7/4) to see his family after 4 months on the road and oversee new construction at his monastery for the Tsoknyi Lineage Nepal Nuns at Chobar (near Kathmandhu).

Upaya Zen Center: Santa Fe 6/29-7/1/12

Rinpoche teaching at Upaya with Manjushri in the background

The first evening was a public book talk attended by both the retreat participants and the public. With joy and brilliance Rinpoche led everyone through the main themes of Open Heart, Open Mind. Those who attended were captivated by the beauty and direct practicality of Rinpoche’s teachings on essence love. The retreat continued with talks on Saturday and Sunday, and Upaya Center’s beautiful adobe Zendo shrine hall only added to Rinpoche’s warm presentation on how to work with the mind. Roshi Joan Halifax was an extremely gracious host and warm presence, and as you looked around the room at any given moment during the retreat it would have been difficult to not find a smile on the participants faces. Overall the retreat was short, but very sweet!
