also, two sky photos
Apologies to people who have seen these already; I posted them on Twitter.
.... I don't post identical content in all venues, but things I really like, some version of them, I tend to put everywhere (except Facebook; these days I'm just a passive lurker on Facebook). But don't ever worry about losing out.... not that you probably would? But I used to, when I realized people were posting things in venues I didn't visit. But now I've changed my mind. There's just so much. Catch what you can in t...

multiracial acorns
I love the colors that acorns come in. Also, I just like acorns. I pick up one, and then I say, "Oh, and this one. Oh, this one too. Oh that one there! Gotta have that, too." I enjoy this as much now as I did when I was six with my grandmother.
And this is a great year for acorns--as for apples, as for hickory nuts. I think the fruiting trees are anxious to reproduce; I think last year's winter made them consider their mortality or something. Anyway, the apple trees are bowed down with apples,...

B-town Fair, 2015
Today I made it my mission to get ahold of a taco salad at the fair. The Congregational Church makes them each year, and people come every year just to have one--line up to buy one--but I've never had one. Here is the sign announcing their presence:
(That church, by the way, is very beautiful. It's from the 1700s. Here is its steeple clock tower--you can't quite see the steeple.)
They created it assembly-line style. I asked for everything. (By the way, the pictures are going to get smaller now,...

A game--the 7-7-7-7 challenge
Disclaimer: I more often than not don't play these games, so if I tag you and you're not feeling up to it, no worries at all. I completely understand. Sometimes the stuff on the seventh page at the seventh line isn't what you feel like sharing! And sometimes the magics don't align right for sharing. But if you feel like it. Oh, and pretty much everyone I know loves to write, so if I don't tag you, don't hang back--the more the merrier.

Come Quick
Come quick
I am bursting at the seams
and cannot contain
my own existence.
Please hold me
Yes, there is the mess
of all my salty liquids
and the bitterness
of my regrets,
but also
this still sunlight
that's too much
for my eyes and skin alone,
the light touch
of this insect on my arm,
this sound
from everywhere
like bells, like heaven.

heavy, empty
One of my students at the jail was talking about all the stuff she's dealing with, and how alone she feels and what hard going it is.
"I'm carrying around so much luggage with nothing in it," she said.
That hit me instantly. So much crap to lug around, and all the bags are empty.
"That's really poetic," I said. "It says a lot."
She gave me a smile and a seriously? look and said, "You know that's just a phrase, right? A thing people say when they're high: You're tripping without no luggage."
"Hah!...

Pietro Patroni's Temporal Binoculars
This is something that started off as an LJ entry, made a detour as a(n unsuccessful) submission to a magazine, and now returns to its earlier purpose: LJ entry.
While her father examined the various antique doors, complete with their door frames, leaning against one of the long walls of the curio shop, Sharon lingered at the front of the shop, attracted by the fanciest pair of binoculars she'd ever seen. They were standing on a tripod--itself quite fancy, decorated with paintings of men in sl...

Ancillary Sword
I've been waiting to read Ancillary Sword until I could do it book-group style with the ninja girl. The chance presented itself at the end of last month, and we both finished it the other day and were discussing it avidly via messages this morning.
The reviews I read said that it was a very different sort of book from the first--quieter--but the reviewers all liked it as much as or better than the original. I enjoyed it tremendously (I carried it with me everywhere so I could read in spare mom...

Roadside DJ--now with mystery tracks identified!
You can find all sorts of things on the roadside, including CDs. Wakanomori once found a CD from a library several towns away lying in the street--he biked it back to where it belonged. A few days ago he found two CDs, one blue and one green, with nothing written on them.
One turned out to have 51 tracks on it--not whole songs, but fragments of songs, transitioning smooth as silk one to the next. It seems to be a DJ CD, for playing at a club or party or something. Some of the fragments I real...
