MARC'S MEMOS

9-2-2009

I recently posted a comment to the discussion that was going on in regard to rhyming vs. prose. After reading the eight finalists that were chosen for the September Poetry Contest, I had a real problem with the results because not one of them rhymed. I suggested that maybe the contest should be titled “DEEP THOUGHTS” as it seems that some of them are just random ramblings. It isn’t to say that I am opposed to prose and only think that rhyming poems should be considered. On the contrary, I just felt that at least one poem that rhymed should have been chosen to vote on. It appeared to me that the majority of the members felt that the people who supported rhyming were closed-minded and were unsophisticated. I don’t feel I am, but I do prefer my poetry to rhyme. I think both forms have their place and think both forms should be represented in the finals of the contest. I will get off of my soapbox now. Thanks for listening.

Until next time, take care! Marc

MARC'S MEMOS

8-24-2009

It is time for September’s Poetry Contest. I decided I would try again to enter a “Poem From The Heart.” My grandchildren are everything to me and even though life is wonderful for them now, I worry about their future. Growing up now poses more challenges, I think, than when I grew up. We had our problems, but perhaps there was more confidence in the future. Now, it seems there is much more uncertainty in just about everything. So I chose to enter my poem titled “SAVE THE FUTURE.” Here it is.

Sometimes I start to ponder
The future of my heirs
What kind of world we’ll leave them
And if anybody cares

I think about the little ones
The babies and the kids
Will they be able to resolve
Something that we did

I think about my grandson
And problems he will face
And future generations
Indeed, the human race

We’re running out of time, you know
We have to take a stand
We have to do a better job
To preserve and protect this land

I HOPE YOU LIKED IT. UNTIL NEXT TIME, TAKE CARE! MARC
