This being human …
This being human is a guest
house. Every morning
a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness.
Some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and attend them all:
Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture, still,
treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.

At many levels and in many countries the word Ku is a currently accepted English variation of the word Haiku.
In July, I will be working on several projects (which may or may not reach completion in July)—among them a book of my postcards, a kid art project and some other things that float in and out of my day.
Apt, timely metaphor for this heart, in its summer hours.

Real power, true liberty
“Today, in an era most of whose pressing problems are global in nature, persistence in the idea that power means advantage for various segments of the human family is profoundly mistaken in theory and of no practical service to the social and economic development of the planet.
Those who still adhere to it—and who could in earlier eras have felt confident in such adherence—now find their plans enmeshed in inexplicable frustrations and hindrances.
In its traditional, competitive expression, power is as irrelevant to the needs of humanity’s future as would be the technologies of railway locomotion to the task of lifting space satellites into orbits around the earth.” ~ The Prosperity of Humankind

Kind words for a love story about healing
My deepest thanks to all responding/reviewing readers, to all who are spreading the word about the book, each and every one of you.
Some snippets:
Snow Fence Road will be a great addition to your beach bag this summer … a well-written story about loving and trusting again after the death of the person you are sure is your one true love. ~ Melynda Taylor
Intuitive, gentle, compassionate love is the saving grace for characters stricken by deceit, blame and guilt. ~ Simona Dunn
… a heartwarming story that speaks to the transformative power of love, truth, and acceptance. You root for her characters as you settle into a feel-good novel that is reminiscent of the late-great Maeve Binchy. ~ Adele Ryan McDowell

The inner molds the outer
We cannot segregate the human heart from the environment outside us and say that once one of these is reformed everything will be improved.
Man is organic with the world. His inner life molds the environment and is itself also deeply affected by it. The one acts upon the other and every abiding change in the life of man is the result of these mutual reactions. ~ Shoghi Effendi
If an active, actual peace is brought about, the human world will attain to the utmost serenity and composure; wolves will be transformed into lambs … and terrors into divine splendors in less than the twinkling of an eye. ~ ‘Abdu’l-Baha
If you want to change the fruits, you will first have to change the roots. If you want to change the visible, you must first change the invisible. ~ T. Harv Eker

Soaked in grace
Glimmers in a new week:
Faith is to believe what you do not see; the reward of this faith is to see what you believe. ~ Saint Augustine
Light begets light — at a certain point, there is no way to escape the inner beacon. Our calling begins to soak every aspect of our lives, whatever the cost or inconvenience. ~ Jeff Brown, Soulshaping

Compassion’s road
When wounded hearts are sure they’ll never heal, love ensures they do.
Feelings that pain believes must stay hidden reveal hope in the light of love.
When we face them, and meet them, it helps others heal, too.
The compassion we feel for another melts what has frozen around our own hearts.

Stronger than friction
“It is not work that kills men, it is worry.
Work is healthy; you can hardly put more on a man than he can bear.
But worry is rust upon the blade.
It is not movement that destroys the machinery, but friction.”
~ Henry Ward Beecher
What helps work feel healthy?
What is the rust upon my blade?
How does real movement take me beyond friction?
