BITTER KIND reviews in Necessary Fiction and 100 Word Story

The Bitter Kind A Flash Novelette by Tara Lynn Masih

As an author, I can't thank enough the venues who continue to review and support small press books. Huge thanks to Necessary Fiction and 100 Word Story:

"The Bitter Kind is sixty-eight pages of legend, lemons, ghosts, and begonias, shifting deftly between genre and perspective." --100 Word Story

Full review: http://www.100wordstory.org/book-revi...

"Fortunately, Masih and Claffey are superbly well-matched as authors. The result of their partnership is a book that transcends experimentation for experimentation’s sake, seamlessly narrating two lives as they drift toward a powerful convergence."--Necessary Fiction

The Bookends Review of The Bitter Kind

The Bitter Kind A Flash Novelette by Tara Lynn Masih
Lovely review for BK in the Bookends Review:

"The book reminds me very much of Denis Johnson’s Train Dreams, not necessarily in the plot (though there are references to Train-Dreams-era frontier days), but in the experience. For me, very similar emotions were evoked—melancholia, longing, awareness of the mystical nature of the world—and the same sense of impossibility: how can such a little book hold so much of the human experience? . . . The Bitter Kind functions as a lightning rod for catharsis. The prose itself offers human connection with Stela and Brandy, Masih and Claffey, and any other solitary traveler of the imagination who happens to wander across its pages."

BITTER KIND reviewed in SmokeLong Quarterly

The Bitter Kind A Flash Novelette by Tara Lynn Masih

LOVE this powerfully written review by Kara Oakleaf in one of our finest flash fiction journals, SmokeLong Quarterly. It's always nerve-wracking to wait for that first one!

"Masih and Claffey have given us something that feels so essential right now – one of those rare stories that makes you feel a little less alone."

Full review here: http://www.smokelong.com/review-the-b...

It's well worth the read just to experience what a carefully constructed review is all about.

Have a happy and safe 4th! Book available for preorder very soon at Cervena Barva!

2019 National Jewish Book Award Finalist!

SO very grateful to find out that this little novel:

My Real Name Is Hanna by Tara Lynn Masih

Shortlisted for the National Jewish Book Awards in the YA category. Definitely a career high for me. And a graceful nod to those who can't be here to tell their own Ukrainian war stories.

Peace,

Tara Lynn Masih

Hanna Wins the Julia Ward Howe Award for Young Readers

The one-year anniversary of the publication of my debut novel is on the horizon, so it's really special to be able to close out the year with an award from the Boston Authors Club. I love that Julia Howe was a suffragist and abolitionist. I'm truly honored!

Thank you!

Gold Again for Hanna

I was kind of shocked to find out today that Hanna won the gold medal in historical fiction from Foreword Review's INDIE Awards:

https://www.forewordreviews.com/award...

It also shortlisted in the YA category.

Congratulations to all the winners! Foreword has been very supportive of my writing and editing career and I much appreciate them. And this is my first gold medal. From bronze, to silver, to gold, finally. This is not to brag, but to tell all you writers out there to keep working on your craft. Some are lucky and make it big really fast. The rest of us have to plug away with consistency and fortitude. Cheers!
