Interview with Christina OW, Author of Trial Of Love

Trial Of Love, a turbulent love story about a slave from America and the Earl who saved her from a fate worse than death.

  Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000035_00015]
After her mother’s death, Melanie’s life in America is full of heartache. Still, she has never allowed herself to despair. She was responsible for the care of her beloved father. Then he remarried a woman to wicked to be considered a mother to Melanie or her two sisters. After years of abuse, the stepmother sells Melanie off—to work in a brothel, and about to be sold to the highest bidder. Through a series of fortuitous events, Melanie falls into the care of Christopher, Earl of Ashworth, who has family issues of her own. The solution to his problems—and redemption for Melanie—wind together toward destiny.
Christina OW writes suspense, thrillers, erotica, interracial and multicultural romance books. She is the author of Contemporary, Fantasy, Paranormal, Regency Romance books and a poet of currently 3 titles. She loves reading novels that take her on a ride of wild emotions. Books have always been an escape for her, for a few hours she gets to live the lives of characters she grows to cherish and admire. She's always had an active imagination and because of it has lived in her head more than she has been in the outside world. She always imagined scenarios and wondered how they would turn out in the end, and what kind of emotions they would invoke. Thus began her writing career.
Do you recall how your interest in writing originated? My love for reading novels started a very long time, about when I was 10 or 11. I was in awe of how a person’s imagination could just take form and fill up pages. I loved the fact that I would read the words and watch it play out in my mind. Some of the books became way more interesting than watching TV! I’m a person who lives in her head more than the outside world because off all the stories in my head. So I figured maybe I should put down all the stories I had in my head on paper, and share them, see if everyone else loved them as much as I did.
What about historical/regency romance?I wasn't much of a fan because the books I'd read so far the characters just seemed stuffy and annoying. But then I found several books published by Second Wind Publishing and I was hooked! Their books were more than just trying to be historically accurate, they had everything and they seemed to come alive through the words and I couldn't stop reading them. I'm a huge Regency fan now.
Do you have a favorite and a least favorite scene in the book?Yes, I do have a favorite scene and a scene that I didn't like writing but was necessary in the book. A person’s character is built buy the positive and negative things in their lives and the same goes for books. Is TOL apart of the series? How many books are in the series? Yes, Trial of Love is apart of the series and the first book. So far, there are 3 books in the series, TOL, A Lady Unbecoming and Lady Nancy. I'm still playing with the idea of adding more books about some of the supporting characters in TOL. I'll see how these 3 books go first then take it from there.
Any more new releases for 2014 from you?Yes. His Paris Affair (Albury Affairs #3) will be out in late June and I'm expecting Book #2 of the Slave Bound series A Lady Unbecoming to be released later on this year.
Excerpt 2 “Hallo again,” Carl whispered, pressing her tight against him. Melanie felt her body go cold at his touch. Quickly she placed her hands on his chest and pushed him away. Nicholas grabbed her hand and pulled her behind him. “What have you done to the lady, Mr. Meed?” He asked harshly. Carl gave a slight bow, “Nothing Lord Townson.” “It didn’t look like nothing,” Nancy pushed standing up and moving to Melanie. “Dove, you look pale. What’s the matter?” Melanie pulled a tight smile over her lips and shook her head, “Forgive me. He took me by surprise and I reacted.” “See, it was all a misunderstanding.” Carl spoke with a casual laugh. Nancy nodded, moving back to her seat. Carl moved towards them and Melanie fought the urge to hide further behind Nicholas. He held out his hand, eyeing her. “May I have this dance?” She wanted to yell ‘go to hell’ and run out, but, she wasn’t that uneducated girl anymore. She was supposed to either politely decline and make up an excuse or accept. “You can have the next one Carl,” Nicholas spoke firmly, taking Melanie’s hand and starting the dance. “What did he really do to you Melanie?” He bought me!

Cover Reveal - Bella's Point by Elizabeth Seckman

Did you know? During Bella's time, American history made drastic historic changes. The passage of the 13th Amendment to the US Constitution outlawed slavery. The 14th made former slaves citizens and the 15th ensured them the right to vote.

Isabella Troy Stanley is a divorced, slave freeing pariah surviving in the shattered post Civil War south the only way a fallen debutante knows how. She heads to a Yankee prison and buys herself a husband.
Jack Byron is the former Troy plantation stable boy and object of young Bella's affection. He rejected her then, and he's still not sold on the idea of marrying her now.
 It’s complicated.
Though to Bella, it’s simple: make Jack love her, marry her, and live happily ever after. The plan seems to work...at least until her secret is revealed.

Elizabeth is a wife, a mom, and a writer. She has four wonderful boys, one dusty house, and three published books to her credit. Feel free to check them out and buy them HERE! Erm, the books, not the kids or the house...though all things in life are negotiable ;)

Read a snippet from White Hellebore!

How about an excerpt from White Hellebore? Why not!

"Ready for your present?" His low voice sounded huskier than normal.

"Yes."

Nicholas placed a thin rectangle gift on the table and quickly yanked off the crushed bow. Maybe his super speed had ruined it. At least the present was still wrapped perfectly.

"Never knew you could cut a corner so tight."

"There're a lot of things you don't know about me."

A challenge. She touched her lips with her fingers. "A little mystery suits you. But not too much."

Beneath the wrapper was a decorative box. Inside, rested on a cushion of red, lay a silver pen. Julianna lifted it. It had some weight to it, and engraved on it was "Ace Reporter: Julianna."

"Do you like it? Gavina thought I should have gotten you jewelry, but you hardly ever wear necklaces."

"No." She touched her tiny diamond earrings, a present from her parents after she graduated college, the only piece of jewelry she consistently wore.

"And then she suggested flowers..."

But flowers had always been Justina's thing. Funny that a girl who spent her time running around, chasing cars and stars and dreams, would bother to plant flowers. Not that she stayed still long enough to prune them or tend to them or weed them. Her flowers had been just like her -- wild and free. A small patch of them still bloomed in the springtime every year in a corner of their parent's yard.

"And I know you aren't a reporter--"

"Let alone an ace," she said dryly.

He winked at her, but she could sense his apprehension. He so wanted her to like his gift. "You would have been if you went to school for journalism. Heck, you could quit being sheriff and become a reporter tomorrow. I know you could."

"Why not Julianna Paige?" She traced her finger against the indentations.

"Ah, well... There was a character limit." He chuckled, toying at the collar of his blue golf shirt. He'd left the top three buttons undone, and she could just glimpse the swell of well-formed pecs.

"Um." Julianna grabbed a napkin and wrote, "I love this pen more than you," and slid it across the table.

Now his laugh was carefree. "A pen won't make you coffee in the morning."

"You don't know. You're too busy sleeping after wandering the streets for no reason as Black Hellebore. Plus, we don't live together."

Yet hung in the air.

"Pens can't kiss you," he persisted.

She placed the cold metal against her lips and kissed it.

"Pens can't kiss back," he said hoarsely. He stood, leaned across the table, and lowered her hand. She closed her eyes, ready to accept his kiss, when their waitress cleared her throat.

"Would you like another flask of sake? Are either of you interested in dessert?"

Nicholas looked like he wanted to shove the dessert menu back in her face, and Julianna didn't disagree.

"No thank you," they said together.

After destroying Skull Krusher, Nicholas Adams thinks Falledge is safe and becomes a security guard at the museum, watching a valuable statue. Unfortunately, the Egyptian statue houses the soul of a scorned witch, biding her time to have her revenge on the descendants of her cheating lover.
Kiya the witch isn't the only new foe in town as the drug that created Skull Krusher has now transformed a scientist into yet another monster, forcing Nicholas to don his Black Hellebore mask again and save Falledge.
Nicholas has no help this time as Kiya gains possession of his love Julianna's body and brings the soul of Justina, Nicholas's high school sweetheart and Julianna's twin, with her. Despite himself, Nicholas is torn between the sisters. If he can't stop the fiends from taking over the world and destroying humankind, he'd never be able to find lasting, true love.

Jessa Russo, Author of DIVIDE, talks about her writing style

So glad Jessa Russo can stop on by today. Welcome, Jessa!
“My Writing Style: Plotter or Pantser?”
I’m often asked the question—as most of us probably are—of what my writing style is. Am I a plotter, paving my way with outlines and story arcs, character write-ups and plans? Or am I a pantser—a ‘fly by the seat of my pants, go with the flow, write it all out and hope for the best’ kind of girl?
The simple answer: pantser. And proud of it. *grin*
I honestly just sit down and write. My “motto” is Just Write. (Pretty hard one to remember, huh? So much so that I tattooed it on my arm. Lol!)
But seriously, just write. Write until the words come. Because they will, if only you sit back and let them.
When I sat down in 2010 (2009?) to write EVER, I had a barebones idea: a girl who lived with a houseful of ghosts. Over many months and a gazillion revisions (don’t even get me started on what that first draft looked like, ugh!), that house full of ghosts dwindled down to just one: the ghost of Ever’s best friend and secret love. But I didn’t have the storyline to go with that idea, just the characters. And, truth be told, even Ever and Frankie morphed and changed as I trucked along in that world, though Frankie always remained a greaser from the 1950’s, even when he wasn’t.
With DIVIDE, I sat down on November 1, 2012, for my very first attempt at NaNoWriMo, my full intention to finish fleshing out EVADE: Book Two of The Ever Trilogy. Instead, and much to my surprise, the story of Holland Briggs flowed out onto the page—for no other reason than the simple fact that those were the words that needed to be written at that moment, and that was the story I had to tell right then. I knew I wanted to gender flip Beauty and the Beast, and I wanted to do it in such a way that our beautiful ‘Beauty’, main character Holland, wasn’t just a simple reproduction of the perfect, kind, flawless and aesthetically pleasing heroine. I wanted there to be some darkness, some form of a beast within, something that signified, even just a little, the truth that beauty is only skin deep, and we never know what may be lurking beneath the surface. Although, in this case, Holland isn’t result a monster, and has no control over what’s happening to her, but I’m getting off topic. DIVIDE was nearly completed by the end of November—side note: something I adore about NaNoWriMo is the discipline it forces us pansters to have, even, and possibly more specifically, in the case of already published authors—and by April DIVIDE was out on submission and entering contests. Without a plot or outline to be found.
Eventually, I finished the second book in The Ever Trilogy, and, much to the chagrin of fans of that series, I’m going to tell you all that I have no idea how that series will end. Because when I sat down to finish it, I wrote ARK OF DREAMS (my Noah’s Ark redux), and then later, CHLORINE & CHAOS (my erotic romance, writing as Parker Jameson).
So that’s the flaw of the pantser, or at least, the flaw of this pantser. I have every intention of doing one thing, but often, my words take me somewhere completely different. I mean, contemporary erotic romance? Who knew? Certainly not this YA writer. *blushes*
But there it is. I wrote. I followed the words. I let the stories tell themselves, allowed the characters to forge their own paths, and here I am. Forever a panster, and not seeing that changing anytime soon. Because in my case—and only mine, as I don’t speak for other writers—the second I try to rein it in and put some order to the chaos, I lose my way and just end up writing again.
Because that’s what I do. I just write.
So whether you plot or pants or have developed some awesome combination of the two, just do what you do. Just let the words come.

Just Write.
Nicole here: I'm 95% pantser too! Pantsers unite!

Stephanie Wardrop, Author of Prom and Prejudice drops by with an Awesome Recipe and a Giveaway!

Faithful blog readers, I'm turning the blog over to a good friend of mine, Stephanie Wardrop, author of Prom and Prejudice.

Thanks, Nicole, for letting me visit the blog. Georgia , the main character of the Snark and Circumstance series – a contemporary YA update of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice – is a vegan baker. In fact, in the final installment, Prom and Prejudice, she ends up selling some of her wares to help the drama club. I’ll let her tell you about herself and her baking:
Hey, blog readers. I’m going to share with you an amazingly good recipe that will not seem amazingly good to you at first. When I made it for my (boy)friend Michael, I purposely did not tell him that there is a secret ingredient. He thinks vegan food is weird enough, and if I’d told him that there was cauliflower in this chocolate cake, he would have run right out to the nearest farm and bitten a chicken. But he had and he loved it – and so has everyone else who has eaten this.
I got the recipe from one of my favorite blogs and recipe sources, CHOCOLATE COVERED KATIE . She’s also on Facebook and Pinterest and makes these really healthy really chocolate-y desserts that will freakin’ change your life.
So if you are willing to try something that seems a little odd – and be rewarded with moist delicious chocolate awesomeness, here’s the recipe.  And if you want to win a copy of the book I’m in, leave a comment about the weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten but actually liked and Nicole will pick a winner. (Note: Prom and Prejudice is the last installment in a series of  e-novellas, so you may want to read the first three first J)).
Chocolate Covered Katie’s Vegan Chocolate Cake with a Secret Ingredient:§  3/4 cup flour §  1/2 tsp baking soda§  1/2 tsp salt§  1 tsp baking powder§  1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (20g)§  2 tsp ener-g powder, or 2 tbsp ground flax. You can omit; the cake just won’t rise as much.§  1/3 cup xylitol or sugar (64g)§  1/8 tsp uncut stevia or 4 nunaturals packets (or 1/4 cup more sugar)§  1/2 to 1 cup mini chocolate chips (60-120g) (Do not omit. The recipe just won’t be the same if you do.)§  1 tbsp pure vanilla extract§  2  loosely-packed cups frozen cauliflower, thawed completely but not cooked (250g) (Or omit and sub 1 cup canned pumpkin, if cauliflower is too weird for you. I might even like the pumpkin version better!)§  1/2 cup milk of choice (soy, rice, almond) For pumpkin version, use just 1/3 cup milk (or 1/2 cup if omitting oil).§  3 tbsp oil (or omit and increase milk to scant 2/3 cup, for a lower-fat option)
Preheat oven to 350F. Oil an 8×8 square baking dish. Combine all dry ingredients in a bowl, and mix well. (I like to sift all of mine). In a food processor, combine all liquid ingredients and the cauliflower blend until super-smooth. (Lumps are going to tip off people that there is something weird in this recipe, so make it smooth). Pour wet ingredients into dry and mix until just combined, then pour into prepared pan and bake 30 minutes.
Her website has an easy and soooo good chocolate peanut butter frosting recipe that is perfect for this cake.  Give it a try!
Tell Nicole below about something weird that you and liked. You could win yourself a snarky little YA romance! Or just buy it and the three enovellas that lead up to it right here on Amazon or here at B&N.

Georgia Barrett is beginning to realize that her arch-preppie lab partner, Michael Endicott, is not at all the snob-hole she once thought. Too bad Georgia doesn’t see him for who he really is until he starts dating a poised and polished senior.
Georgia knows she should settle for his friendship, especially since telling him how she really feels would mean risking losing him altogether. But her heart tells her a chance at love might just be worth dropping her trusty shield of snark. And Georgia’s determined to find out.

The Awesome Ali Cross Talks about Renaissance Faires

More Than Just FUN ~ It's RESEARCH!

I've loved Nicole from the moment I saw her profile pic ~ dressed in Renaissance garb. I thought, She's a soul mate! For my birthday a couple years ago, my husband surprised me with a custom-made costume that I could wear to our local faires ~ and I do!

My family and I literally plan our holidays around the local faires and festivals. We go to three different Scottish festivals (which are basically Renaissance Faires with kilts and pipes!) Then we go to a couple Medieval/Reconnaissance fairest, too. We love them! The highlights are the jousting, the "fight the giant" (Nerf-sword fighting knight-style) and of course, the pipes and drums.

You would think I wrote high fantasy with all that Lord and Lady stuff. You'd swear in a court of law it was true if you read my list of all-time-favorite books (hint: all high fantasy!). But . . . I don't write in that genre. And I have no idea why.

But while I don't write the genre, it does influence everything story I tell.

I write tales steeped in family history, in culture, in belonging. I write traditional ideals ~ men and women can still be knights and ladies if they're on a space ship!

The wonderful thing about faires and festivals, or ComicCon (which I also love! Ha!) or Robot Wars or whatever other-worldly activities you enjoy, is that it all feeds your creative self. Ride a horse and pretend you're flying a Pegasus. Heck, ride your bike and imagine it's a dragon! Dance like it's May-Day. Anything. Everything!

Immerse yourself in fantasy ~ in whatever form it takes for you ~ and let it feed your creative self. The joy and freedom you feel will allow your fantasy to take flight and inspire greatness in your stories.

Thanks for letting me hang out in your fair village today, Nicole, AND for being a friendly, genteel face in the blogosphere!

Nicole here: No, thank YOU, Ali! And we're definitely soul mates. ;)
