Arrrgh….

Got the proof copy of the book back.  Arrgh! First off, I noticed something.  Indents were still busted, but they were busted by font.  So if a paragraph was in garamond italicized, indents (AKA the first word of a paragraph indented using a tab) worked great.   If indents were in helvetica, they got truncated [...]

Hmmm…

So I did a final few edits to the print copy of my book that I'm going to use createspace to publish and distribute.  I added a foreword and did some other cleanup of the cover text and whatnot.  Ordered and received a proof copy.  Then I found a single sentence that I just wanted [...]

A small bit of literary humor…

My younger son and I were both doing homework this evening and he came by to remind me of a conversation that he, my other son and I were having a couple of weeks ago. First let me setup the background of this short conversation.  A few years ago, the 3 of us were in [...]

JetBoo Part Deux!

On Tuesday night I got to Rochester.  I had missed the late afternoon event, but I moved on.  The next day, evening, was the career fair and it turned out to be great.  Went out that evening with the recruiting team to PF Changs and had a great meal. So the following morning, Thursday, I [...]

My First Pencast – About my book "Urtaru"

OK so I've created an description of my sci fi e-book using my livescribe pen.  It is an interesting way to tell a story. Listening to my voice and watching my penstrokes may or may not be entertaining, but I may be the first of your friends to try this so you can say you've [...:]

Bad design…FB droid app and taking pictures.

So I use the facebook droid app.  Most of the time when I use my droid, I snap off pictures, then share the pictures from the camera app, which means I select FB, twitter, or email depending on what I am doing.  The good thing is that this way, the picture is immediately written to [...:]

A facebook status from a friend triggered this thought…

When I was growing up, my father bought encyclopedias and an atlas…that gigantic atlas that always seemed bigger than me.    We already had a set or two of grocery story kids encyclopedias and then he bought the bicentennial version of the Encyclopedia Americana and built a built-in shelf unit in our Den for it…So [...:]

A funny story that I just remembered…

So years ago when I was in college RIT announced that the IEEE was sponsoring a visit from Maurice Wilkes, the inventor of the EDSAC, one of those single named computers that we all learned the history of when we were in school.  All of us geeks went to the auditorium and he told us stories [...:]
