Trying out a hypothesis…

A few weeks ago I speculated that what we were seeing was an bourgeois revolution in the Middle East. Today I’m going to propose something else. Would it be outlandish to consider that the experience of Iraq for the us, including a simultaneous rise in influence of Iran across the Middle East through proxy organizations […]

Another year….in numbers…

In about an hour or so it will be my Birthday on the east coast.  49 is a number.  It’s a perfect square.  Funny, at my last perfect square (36) neither Facebook nor twitter nor LinkedIn had been imagined.  I had a 500Mhz Pentium Machine at home and a small 300Mhz laptop.  Youtube did not […]

Bourgeois revolution?

So I was reading more about the protests in Egypt this week, along with some odd things going on in turkey, china, brazil and other places. A lot of talking-heads say that there is a pitched battle between state sponsored fundamentalism (whatever the religions involved) vs secular power. I kinda disagree. What we have here […]

Playing for fun…

So at a friend’s annual party last weekend I got to jam a bit with some really great guitarists.  I was playing my Martin GPCPA1, they were playing some nice Taylors and we had a great time.  After a scotch or two, playing Rush’s “Limelight” on 3 acoustic guitars is pretty funny. My GPCPA1 continues […]

Haroutioun Hovanes Chakmakjian

This is an electronic copy of the first armenian-american english dictionary: http://www.archive.org/stream/armenoa... Now I don’t have any idea if I am related to this Chakmakjian, but he was a professor at Tufts university early last century and a resident of Arlington, MA. One of his notable works was this dictionary. His other claim to fame […]

Eras, transitions, and music

This is an amazing time of life. I could say that an era of this or that is ending, however it’s not merely my impending graduation, or the graduation of my son samuel from Sunday school or from Armenian Saturday school both of which he attended for 13 or 14 years; it’s not just his [...]
