###

A broken memory. A lost fortress. And a weapon that might consume everything.

My name’s Nadia, and I serve the High Queen of the Elves.

My friend Neil Freeman also works for her, and he’s the deadliest assassin who ever lived. He paid a high price for his abilities, including a damaged memory.

But his memory holds secrets that might destroy the world.

So when the mad wizards of Singularity come to rip open Neil’s mind and steal those secrets, it’s up to us to stop them.

Because if we don’t, Singularity will build its new world atop a mountain of the dead…

the final push

Very close to finishing CLOAK OF SPEARS! No more social media until the book is done.I actually typed CLOAK OF SHARDS at first, so no doubt this will be the first of many times I mix up CLOAK OF SHARDS and CLOAK OF SPEARS, much like I’ve been mixing up GHOST IN THE STORM and GHOST IN THE STONE since 2012. 🙂But let’s close on a note of encouragement. When undertaking any sort of enterprise, it is often discouraging because it doesn’t turn out the way you visualized it in your head. The only cure is practice. Practice, practice, and more practice.I started using Photoshop in 2020, and two years of practice later, things are different. 🙂-JM

Quotation Marks Are Fun!

I had planned to spend the day doing Homeowner Repair Funtivities, but the rain canceled that, so instead I’m editing CLOAK OF SPEARS. I’m not sure how it happens, but maybe for every 700th quotation mark or so that I type, instead of curly quotes I get straight ones instead.  I haven’t been able to work out why. I think it’s because I wrote parts of CLOAK OF SPEARS on a Windows 10 desktop and other parts on a MacBook, and something got screwed up in the different versions of Word. But I don’t have to worry about it getting fixed. No, I do not.  Because EVERY SINGLE TIME this happens, Grammarly loses its mind. It takes like five minutes to grind through a chapter, and then the entire screen lights up with red as Grammarly highlights EVERY SINGLE quotation mark in the chapter and asks if I wanted to use curly quotes or straight quotes because one instance of straight quotes slipped into the chapter. Technology! This is why we don’t have to worry about artificial intelligence conquering the world, because the AIs would spend all their time trying to decide what kind of quotation marks to use. -JM

I finally decided on a name for the Tythrilandria short story – ELVEN HONOR.

Another CLOAK OF SPEARS progress update

It’s been a few days since a proper progress update, so here’s where I am.

Editing is underway for CLOAK OF SPEARS, and I edited the first 20,000 words or so. I also finished writing the Tythrilandria short story, though I still haven’t decided on a title for it. For obvious reasons, I will probably settle on a title when I make the cover image for it.

July and August both are going to be exceptionally busy months in Real Life, so once CLOAK OF SPEARS is done I’m going to finish something I have already been working on rather than starting something new. Since I’ve already written about 10% of SILENT ORDER: RUST HAND, that will be my main project once CLOAK OF SPEARS is out. If all goes well, SILENT ORDER: RUST HAND will be out towards the end of August.

More details to come soon!

You can listen to the AI-narrated version of SILENT ORDER: IRON HAND here.

As always, you can listen to the show on Libsyn, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, and Amazon Music.

###

A destroyed cult. A creature from the Shadowlands on a rampage. And I’m the next target.

I thought I would help the Family of the Shadow Hunters track down a renegade cult of Dark Ones worshippers.

Instead, whatever nightmare the cultists summoned killed them all, and now it’s on the run.

If I don’t find the creature, a lot of people are going to die.

Starting with everyone I love…
