Coupon of the Week, 2/5/2024

ad results January 2024
It’s the end of the month, so time to see how my ads did for January 2024!
As usual, I advertised on Facebook, Bookbub, and Amazon, and we’ll go through the list in that order.
First up, Facebook ads:
CLOAK GAMES/MAGE: $4.22 for every $1 spent, and 8.5% of the profit from audiobooks, which is a big improvement from past months!
THE GHOSTS: $4.36 for every $1 spent, and 15% of the profit came from the audiobooks.
Next up is the Bookbub ads. I’ve only been advertising FROSTBORN there, though I might expand that to include SILENT ORDER in February or March.
FROSTBORN: $6.14 back for every $1 spent, with a whopping 49.9% of the profit from the audio. So I very nearly made more from the FROSTBORN audiobooks than I did from the ebooks in January 2024.
Now the Amazon ads. I tend to target the Amazon ads for individual books rather than series.
DRAGONSKULL: SWORD OF THE SQUIRE: $2.05 for every $1 spent, with 44% of the profit coming from the audiobook.
SEVENFOLD SWORD ONLINE: CREATION: $2.46 for every $1, with 46% of the profit coming from the audiobook.
HALF-ELVEN THIEF: $3.27 for every $1 spent.
SILENT ORDER: OMNIBUS ONE: $15.60 for every $1 spent. I suspect this was anomalous due to SILENT ORDER: IRON HAND having a big spike in free downloads.
So once again we can see that having audiobooks makes it a lot easier to generate a profit on ads. Especially if you have a completed audiobook series. Of course, the effort and money to get to a completed audiobook series is immense. I suspect that’s why AI audio is so alluring to people. Of course, it’s a false allure, since I suspect the vast majority of listeners have gone from passively to actively hating AI audio and will actively avoid it, save for circumstances like it’s the night before your econ final and you have to drive 12 hours, so you might as well have your phone read the PDF file aloud to you, that kind of thing.

upcoming books
Now that SHIELD OF STORMS is out and is selling briskly (thanks everyone!) what am I working on next?
The next book I publish will be SEVENFOLD SWORD ONLINE: LEVELING. I’ve been chipping away at it for a while, and I’m about 75% of the way through. If all goes well I’m hoping to publish it in February. I haven’t decided how long SEVENFOLD SWORD ONLINE will be, and it depends on how LEVELING does, but I’m strongly leaning towards a trilogy with the third book wrapping everything up in the story. I have a year’s worth of sales data from the first book now, and I’ve concluded that the market for LitRPG is overwhelmingly in KU and audio, so into Kindle Unlimited LEVELING will go, with hopefully an audiobook coming a few months after.
After that, I will write GHOST IN THE VEILS. I’ve already started it and am 1,000 words into the book. What will it be about? Caina, Morgant the Razor, and Sophia Zomanek will have to team up to solve a mystery. They had a similar dynamic waaaay back in GHOST IN THE TOWER (which was waaaaaaaay back in 2018!) and it was fun to write. When will GHOST IN THE VEILS be published? Before it’s scheduled recording slot in April, that’s when! 
When published, GHOST IN THE VEILS will be available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, Google Play, Apple Books, Smashwords, and my Payhip store.
I gotta admit that inspired a brief moment of reflection. I feel like I just wrote GHOST IN THE TOWER, but it was nearly six years ago now. Tempus fugit!
Anyway, after GHOST IN THE VEILS, my next book will be WIZARD-THIEF, the sequel to HALF-ELVEN THIEF back in December. I’m actually already 21,000 words into that, so it should come out fairly quickly once GHOST IN THE VEILS is done.
By then, we’ll be at the end of spring and the start of summer already, so the next two books I plan after that are CLOAK OF TITANS and SHIELD OF DARKNESS.
So that’s what I’m planning to write the next few months.
