new website look
I’m fiddling with the look of jonathanmoeller.com, so if you visit my site and it looks different, that’s why.
If you’ve ever run a website, you know that changing the site look is one bottomless time sinks. But I did want something more advanced than the default WordPress theme from 2012. I do like a website that looks stark and clean without a lot of extraneous stuff, and the WordPress 2012 theme definitely did that. Hopefully I can settle on a new look that’s equally stark and clean but looks a bit nicer.
If you have any examples of writer websites that you think look really good, let me know!

Meanwhile, I think I’ll give away some ebooks for free via my newsletter this weekend, so be sure to watch for that!

a short SEVENFOLD SWORD: SWORDBEARER excerpt
Let’s have another short excerpt from SEVENFOLD SWORD: SWORDBEARER:
“Why do they call him the Sovereign?” said Gareth.
“I…do not know,” said Kalussa. “I never thought of it.”
“I do,” said Tamlin. “The Sovereign was the greatest warrior of the dark elves, but whenever he conquered a land, it rebelled against him sooner or later. In mockery, the other dark elves called him the Sovereign.”
“The dark elven lords never shared their true names with other kindreds,” said Calliande, “and they loved cruelty, so they gave each other mocking titles. The Artificer forged the instrument of his own imprisonment, so they gave him that name. They…” She looked at the children and stopped. Perhaps she had been about to list other examples, but she did not want to share the horrors that she and Ridmark had seen with the boys.
Ridmark understood. He hoped his sons never had to face anything like the Warden or the Sculptor or the Traveler.

Eclipse 2017!
The modern mind knows, of course, that eclipses are caused by the relative position of the Moon to the Sun based on the position of the observer.
But when you see them firsthand, you understand why they were omens of grave importance to the ancients.

GHOST IN THE GLASS and publication schedule
Today I am going to write the outline for GHOST IN THE GLASS.
If all goes well, GHOST IN THE GLASS should be December’s book.
Speaking of that, this is what I hope my publication schedule will look like for the rest of 2017.
September: SEVENFOLD SWORD: SWORDBEARER
October: 5 books of my science fiction series.
November: SEVENFOLD SWORD #3
December: GHOST IN THE GLASS.

CLOAK GAMES: HAMMER BREAK meets CreateSpace
I had a chance to do the print layout for CLOAK GAMES: HAMMER BREAK’s paperback edition today.
I have to admit I like doing the CLOAK GAMES paperbacks because they’re so much easier than my other books. In print books, you have to check the location of each scene break, because print books obviously do not paginate automatically the way that ebooks do. Because CLOAK GAMES is first-person perspective from Nadia Moran, there aren’t a lot of scene breaks.
So CLOAK GAMES: HAMMER BREAK had exactly two scene breaks.
By contrast, GHOST IN THE RING had 42, SEVENFOLD SWORD: CHAMPION had 53, and FROSTBORN: THE SHADOW PRISON had 102!

another short SEVENFOLD SWORD: SWORDBEARER excerpt
I like this short, spoiler-free excerpt from SEVENFOLD SWORD: SWORDBEARER:
Kalussa hesitated. “Sir Tamlin…thank you. For believing me.”
Tamlin shrugged. “I hope you’ll get to discover one of the joys of pessimism.”
“What’s that?”
“It’s pleasant to be wrong.”

a SEVENFOLD SWORD: SWORDBEARER excerpt
I realized that I haven’t shared any excerpts from SEVENFOLD SWORD: SWORDBEARER yet.
So let’s have a short, spoiler-free excerpt!
“That might not be necessary,” said Ridmark. “I think we can get them to talk.”
Calliande frowned. “Can we? Those muridachs we encountered near Castra Chaeldon were eager to fight.”
“You told me you bullied a group of them into talking,” said Ridmark.
Calliande raised her eyebrows. “I didn’t bully them, Ridmark. I persuaded them. Forcefully.” She smiled and conceded the point. “By bullying.”
